TREE HOUSE NEWS

Land of The Whispering Pines

Good morning, everyone! I pray that you all be well, at peace, provided for, and be blessed馃檹 馃寘

Well, at least the morning is starting sunny,馃對, but they are calling for rain in the afternoon. The temps are where they are supposed to be, 67°F. It will get a little cooler next week, with temperatures ranging from 50°F to 60°F, which is a bit more in line with normal temperatures for this time of year, typically in the 60°F to 70°F range. I'm glad to get out of that 30°F to 40°F stuff.

I was up at my usual time, 5:40 am, and did my morning routine. Then, I went out into my green space and sat under my fake coconut tree to enjoy some of the early morning sunshine. With the birds singing, it would be easy to close my eyes and envision myself on some tropical island of Jamaica or somewhere, just me, the birds, me, the jungle, and listening to the band on the beach singing IT'S A BRIGHT SUNSHINY DAY!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrHxhQPOO2c

At about 7:30 am, I sat down on the recliner couch, like it had become a habit with me, to spend half an hour scrolling through the groups to check out what's cookin' for the day. Anyway, it gives me the opportunity and satisfaction to stick my tongue out at the clock and say, I'm retired. While scrolling, I came across a group of people in a discussion about being detained at the border; most of them call themselves Brown Canadians.

Well, I'm not brown; I'm French Canadian, but I have been a friend of the Ojibwe people, brothers and sisters, since I was a toddler. I told them I had never had a problem crossing the border, even with my brothers and sisters; they just use their status card, and I still have my Ontario Metis card.

To make a long story short, I told them I wouldn't be going across the border for a very long time, or at least not until they get rid of the King Orange Pus Bag. Good thing he's orange; I wouldn't want even to hint that he's a member of the same species as the White Man.

Leave me in the sun for the summer, the best I can do is Red Skin. The Green Skin makes for good camouflage, especially if you're from Mars. Try suntanning your Green Skin. At least I can disappear in the bush, eh?

I love the comic book stuff; it helps pick up the spirit. No, not the stuff in a bottle, there are only snakes in them. I'm talking about what you feel in your heart. Nobody dies or suffers in cartoons, and they get to take the Stanley Cup home in the end.

So, what would you like to discuss today? How about discrimination? How many of you in this classroom know how to spell the word?

TODAY'S DISCUSSION:

Discrimination & Prejudice

In my opinion, I am reasonably sure that everyone has experienced discrimination or prejudice; they are the left and right arms of the same culprit. It's just that too many people today have become desensitized to the reality of discrimination and prejudice, which never goes beyond judging by surface examination of the specimen only.

Even if I used a microscope, I would only see the anatomical structure and its command center, the brain, as well as the neural network, but I cannot see into the internal consciousness, the heart.

You will find that in the anatomical and physical realms, there are many discrepancies between the anatomical structure and the internal consciousness, The Heart. No one can know or understand this unless they have that part of them inside of them. It's called EMPATHY. Without empathy, there is no hope, only darkness and suffering.

On the positive side, to discriminate can also mean to criticize and investigate before making or passing a judgment.

As tariffs darken the economic outlook, Trump sizes up Powell as a scapegoat

Donald Trump is showing why independent central banks are a good idea.

The president’s double tirade against Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell on Thursday conjured another dark cloud over financial markets and an economy repeatedly traumatized by his tariff and trade-war chaos.

“If I want him out, he’ll be out of there real fast, believe me,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. “I’m not happy with him.”

US will abandon Ukraine peace efforts ‘within days’ if no progress made, Rubio warns

The United States could end its efforts on ending the Ukrainian conflict within “days” if there are no signs of progress, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned Friday.

“If it is not possible to end the war in Ukraine, we need to move on,” he told reporters before departing Paris, where he had held high-level talks with European and Ukrainian officials. “We need to determine very quickly now, and I’m talking about a matter of days, whether or not this is doable,” he said.

Rubio’s comments point to mounting frustration within the Trump administration at the lack of progress at bringing the three-year full-scale war to a halt.

Harvard has an endowment of over $50 billion. So why do federal cuts of a few billion matter?

Harvard University’s finances have become the latest target of the Trump administration – and experts say the hits could hurt.

In the past week, the administration has threatened Harvard University’s funding from multiple angles: freezing billions in federal funds, and potentially revoking its non-profit tax status and its ability to enroll foreign students.

More than $2.2 billion in federal grants and contracts have been frozen and even more could be siphoned away if the other pressures materialize. Harvard Medical School is preparing for possible layoffs and the School of Public Health, which received three stop-work orders on research this week, is winding down two leases in off-campus buildings.

Advance polls open across the country Friday morning

Polling stations busiest between 10 a.m. and noon, says Elections Canada

If you'll be away on election day, April 28, you have some options to vote early. CBC's Avneet Dhillon breaks down three options: voting during the advance polls, voting at an Elections Canada office and voting by mail.

With just 10 days to go until election day, advance polls open Friday across the country for those who want to vote before April 28.

Registered voters can cast an early ballot at their assigned polling station between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. from April 18-21.

Your voter information card, which registered voters should have received in the mail by April 11, will tell you where your assigned polling station is for advance voting. (Your election day station could be at a different address.)

Tierra de los Pinos Susurrantes

馃寘馃檹¡Buenos d铆as a todos! Rezo para que est茅n bien, en paz, bien provistos y bendecidos馃檹 馃寘

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrHxhQPOO2c

Me encantan los c贸mics; ayudan a animarse.

¿Qu茅 tal la discriminaci贸n?

Discriminaci贸n:

¿Discriminar?

Sin贸nimo de discriminar: discernir, distinguir.

Discernir, distinguir, discernir, reconocer, detectar, distinguir. Percibir o detectar con los sentidos. Verbo.

Today, I can't say I have any enemies or anyone who envies me or is prejudiced against me. I have a few casual friends. A lovely apartment overlooking a park.

Nobody bothers me, and I don't bother anyone; I don't have to answer to anybody. I share my thoughts and feelings in my groups, and that at least makes me feel like I'm contributing something to society, and I'm happy that way. I'm still in touch with the rest of the world.

Good evening, Everyone! Thank you for visiting.

Good Friday is a day of meditation and introspection for me. The weather has been cooperative. A gray sky and stiff breezes made staying indoors easier.
I'm a native-born American living in Canada. I've been here for years, and I've crossed the border many times to shop. I felt comfortable crossing into America because I was born there.

Recent events keep me from crossing the border. Americans born in America and living there have received letters from ICE telling them that it's time for them to leave the country. No reason was given, no summons to court, no nothing. Canadians crossing into America have had their electronic devices seized and examined while they were detained without a cause given by the Border Security.

I am staying here for the foreseeable future.

These actions by the U.S. government may be the result of prejudice and discrimination.

Neil deGrasse Tyson was asked what he thought about astrology. His answer: "Prejudice."

The definition of prejudice in Cindy's article is correct. Here is proof.
Do people born under each of the twelve astrological signs have the same temperament, thought process, values, and perceptions? I don't buy that. Ethnic jokes have been with humanity since our beginning, but do they really describe the mentality, valor, ethics, or anything else about the group they deride? Anyone who says that when they see another person, they don't know that person's color is lying to themselves.

When anyone looks at someone, what do they see first? Their clothes, their hairdo, their jewelry, their shoes, their nails? When we see a person's face, we also see the color of their skin. Now that's settled, how can a person's outward appearance be a sufficient basis for concluding the entire group is not to be trusted, feared, hated, avoided, or run out of the country?

What's happening to immigrants in America today, regardless of their documented status, is prejudice at work. But don't worry. When the supply of immigrants is exhausted, those exercising prejudice will find reasons to apply prejudice to Americans. They've been doing that for decades already.
On its positive side, discrimination is what we use when making decisions about what to buy, whom to marry, and other personal choices.

The negative side of discrimination is refusing entry to a public accommodation to someone based on their appearance, their choice of partner, or other characteristics that keep them from having the same treatment as everyone else.

There are instances of permissible discrimination. If a restaurant refuses service to anyone not wearing shoes and a shirt, that's a safety concern. If someone is denied entry to a place of fine dining because they don't meet the dress code, such as no jeans, a coat and tie for men, and evening attire for women, that's alright with me because the owner is providing a semi-formal ambiance, not casual dining.

I have read recent experiences in which people of color were seated next to a restaurant kitchen, next to the noise, and given poor service when other tables were open. I see that as discrimination and that shit must stop. Racism must die.

I don't get everything right. Thank you for hearing my views on prejudice and discrimination. Have a lovely evening.
