Land of The Whispering Pines
Good morning, everyone! I pray that you all be well, at peace, provided for, and be blessed馃檹 馃寘
Even if it's a little chilly out, at least it's sunny today; that's about an 80% improvement over the clouds. I don't mind getting REAL RAIN, like summertime rain.
Summer rain in silence and stillness, with no other sounds to be heard except for the raindrops falling, making their little pattering sounds, like little musical notes, as they fall on different objects all around. It's rather soothing. Little droplets hang everywhere like little prisms with micro mirror images of the world around them.
The hushed sound of the rain is reassuring and soothing to the soul, and at this very moment, in the gentle summer rain, all is at peace in the world about you.
But I do so miss the sunny, warm days as well, just sitting out on the patio chair in my green space in summer dresses, sipping on some iced tea, and checking out stuff on the cell. This summer, I would like to do some stepping-it-on-out! It feels good to feel good, and no nagging pains in the butt and no bugs so far. "Bye, and have a great day!"
It's now time for the discussion of the day; thank you for reading the News. Before I begin the discussion, I would like to remind everyone to take a little time today for PRAYER AND MEDITATION for our brothers and sisters south of the border. Many of them probably wish they could be somewhere else right now. Eh! wanna buy a ticket for City Square Cydonia Mars, the third pyramid to the left? Hmm... It's been a while since I've been there. I think that's the third pyramid to the right.

TODAY'S DISCUSSION:
FALL OF AN EMPIRE:
- Google Search -
From history:
[1] The "fall of an empire" generally refers to the decline and eventual loss of power, influence, and territory by a central state, either through [internal decay] or external pressures. This can manifest as the state ceasing to exist.
[2] While the fall of empires isn't a perfect, exact repetition, there are recurring patterns and themes that suggest historical trends and lessons can be learned, although not in a deterministic way.
[3] The rise and fall of empires often follow similar trajectories, with periods of expansion, internal strife, economic decline, and external pressures leading to their eventual decline and collapse.
[4] Internal Corruption: Rulers becoming detached from the needs of their people.
[5] Economic Instability: Inflation, debt, and unequal distribution of wealth.
[6] The relentless pursuit of power and wealth: This greed by ruling elites, often at the expense of their people, can indeed be a significant factor in the decline and fall of empires.
In my opinion, the shoe fits very well.
BREAKING NEWS:
Europe warns Trump: We have ‘a strong plan’ for retaliation against tariffs
London:
Europe has “a strong plan” for striking back at the United States in response to Donald Trump’s tariff hikes “if necessary,” a top official said Tuesday on the eve of a long-anticipated announcement of massive import levies by the US president.
For weeks, Trump has promoted April 2 as “Liberation Day” in America, when a number of hefty tariffs will be unveiled to implement his administration’s radical economic agenda. The United States has already announced a sharp increase in tariffs on all imports of steel, aluminum and cars.
“Europe has not started this confrontation,” Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Union’s executive, said in a speech. “We do not necessarily want to retaliate but, if it is necessary, we have a strong plan to retaliate and we will use it.”

Massive wave of staff cuts begins at federal health agencies
A massive wave of job cuts began at US health agencies early Tuesday, with some employees receiving early morning emails that their jobs were eliminated and some unable to access the building when they arrived at work.
It was not immediately clear how many employees had received notice Tuesday morning. CNN has reached out the US Department of Health and Human Services for comment.
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said last week that cuts would hit about 10,000 full-time employees on top of thousands who had already left and probationary employees currently on leave.

Cory Booker’s marathon Senate floor speech stretches overnight in protest over Trump actions
New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker’s marathon speech on the Senate floor has stretched overnight into Tuesday morning as he protests actions taken by President Donald Trump’s administration, saying that he will keep going “as long as I am physically able.”
The Democratic senator has spoken for more than 12 hours, beginning his remarks at 7 p.m. ET Monday evening, and is undertaking this effort at a time when Democratic leaders in Washington are under pressure from their base to do more to stand up to Trump. Booker is a member of the Senate Democratic leadership team.
As of 7:30 a.m. ET, Booker was still speaking and had touched on a number of topics.

Fun in the sun becomes 'living nightmare' as Ontario man faces 'bogus' drug charges in Dominican Republic
What had been a week of fun in the sun for a Burlington, Ont., couple this winter has turned into "a living nightmare."
Jane Wilcox said she and David Bennett, as well as another couple, were about to board a flight in the Dominican Republic to head back home from their vacation when Bennett was pulled from a security-check line at Punta Cana International Airport and sent into an interrogation room.
After much pleading, Wilcox said, she was allowed into the interrogation room, where officers showed them a picture on a phone of a bag with a tag bearing the name "Davi — D-A-V-I — Bennett … it had the PUJ airport code on it, so it came into the Punta Cana airport."

馃寘馃檹¡Buenos d铆as a todos! Rezo para que est茅n bien, en paz, bien provistos y bendecidos馃檹 馃寘
¡Este verano, me gustar铆a salir a correr!

Comment, Paula Koval:
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Everyone! Thank you for visiting.
Cindy's Google Search results describing the fall of an empire and her comment are well-founded. As sure as any empire rises, that empire will fall.
An empire can survive for a long time if its citizens aren't afraid to get involved and fix its failings before it's too late.
America is a republic whose government is based on its Constitution.
"A republic, if you can keep it" is a famous quote attributed to Benjamin Franklin, responding to Elizabeth Willing Powel's question about the newly formed government after the Constitutional Convention.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
The Context:
On September 17, 1787, as the Constitutional Convention concluded, Elizabeth Willing Powel, a prominent Philadelphia socialite, asked Benjamin Franklin, "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?".
Franklin's Response:
Franklin famously replied, "A republic, if you can keep it".
The Meaning:
The quote highlights the idea that the success of a republic depends on the vigilance and participation of its citizens. It emphasizes the responsibility of the people to maintain their government and freedoms.
The Constitutional Convention:
The Constitutional Convention was a meeting of delegates from 12 of the 13 original states (Rhode Island did not attend) held in Philadelphia in 1787 to address the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation and establish a new framework for the United States government.
The Constitution:
The Constitution was a compromise between different factions and interests, and it was not universally accepted by the founding fathers.
The Quote's Legacy:
The quote has become a symbol of the importance of civic responsibility and the potential fragility of democratic institutions.
My summation: At this moment, our Constitution is being trashed. The House of Representatives, one portion of the Legislative Branch of the American government, is a do-nothing assemblage of elected craven cowards on the public payroll who have surrendered their constitutional duties, powers, and the ability to act on anything to the Executive Branch of the United States government, the sole representative of that Branch being the President of the United States.
The other portion of the Legislative Branch of the government is the United States Senate. After bowing down to the President, the Senate is equally inert. They are useless and can't pass gas, much legislation, or a resolution to disagree with the President.
The surrender of the powers of the Legislative Branch to the Executive Branch has caused America to have an autocratic government, a dictatorship, a unitary executive, unopposed by the Legislative Branch, which, like a monarch, rules by decrees called Executive Orders.
This is the first time I recall a president usurping the powers of Congress through intimidation and ruling America by decree. The President's intimidation is to find someone to run in a primary election against any representative or senator whose term has ended, and they are up for reelection. That scares the shit out of the congresspersons and senators because if they lose, they will be like the rest of us, working for a living without perks and connections.
In case you haven't figured it out by now, America is a fallen empire. The Constitution is on life support as Trump chokes the life out of it. He and Musk have demolished our government, and Trump has taken to attacking universities by stopping a university's government research grants and other funding if they don't think, do, and say exactly as he says they should.
And he's nowhere near done.
Sleep well, my fellow Americans. It was a nice nation while it lasted.
Reply, The Fairy Lady:
Paula Koval: The brain drain. All that will be left in America will be slums and street people, certainly no place I will want to visit. It will not be nice to visit. A trashed country. A nuclear dump?
