It's a grey and cool, damp day. Good weather for greys from Planet Rainy, that's not me; I'm a green alien from Mars, and our friends from Ferenginar, who will also be attending, are sellin' umbrellas and I'm their Martian bookie. But it's still a good morning for me. I feel quite spirited and getting energised on my second cup of coffee, and ready to begin plunking on my keyboard. I'm not feeling any discomfort or pain, not the balled up in the corner of the couch like a soldier gut shot in a fox hole.

That kind of pain, I once thought, not very long ago, would never end, and I was in Hell. Boy, if that's not paying for your sins! But I began to find little islands of peace amidst the pain, and each day, that little island of peace grows, and I become more appreciative of the small things in life. Like after my usual morning duties, just flopping down on the couch and scrolling through my cell to see what the latest items of interest are on my groups on the social networks on this Friday morning.

After having my cereal while waiting for the coffee to finish brewing, I get Paula up, and we have coffee at the dining room table overlooking my green space through the sliding doors. I also love spending a little time in my green space, soaking up the sun when I can. Then I come into the spare room, I call the Newsroom, and begin typing something out for The Tree House News on this keyboard as I'm doing now. That's my sunshine on a cloudy day.

Last night, the Giants "got their guys," sparking the first bit of optimism for a beleaguered fan base in some time. After a rough start to the week, there has also been some optimism in US equity markets, which have moved sharply higher over the last three sessions, helped by a softening of tone around trade and earnings that can be characterized as better than feared. Broadly, tech earnings have been a positive standout and that continued last night with a big beat by Alphabet (~3.5%), though Intel (-7%) is under pressure after its results. US futures were modestly higher overnight but have pulled back a bit following the release of a TIME interview with President Trump celebrating his first 100 days in office. S&P futures are now down ~0.2% and Russell 2k futures are down ~1%, modest pullbacks considering both indices are up ~4% WTD. Mega-cap tech has been a big outperformer this week, with the NYSE FANG+ index up 9%.

Americans are still dreading a recession and rising inflation, even after President Donald Trump paused his massive tariff hike on dozens of countries.

Consumer sentiment plunged 8% in April from the prior month, to a final reading of 52.2, the University of Michigan said in its latest survey released Friday. That was a slightly smaller decline than a preliminary reading from earlier this month, which didn’t capture people’s reaction to Trump’s 90-day tariff delay announced on April 9.

Sentiment in April was at its fourth-lowest level on records going back to 1952.

PM reiterated that U.S. president respected Canadian sovereignty in call

Liberal Leader Mark Carney confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump did bring up the prospect of Canada becoming the 51st state during their March 28 call, while insisting Trump did show respect for the country as a sovereign nation.

"The president says lots of things, but the essence of the discussion and where we moved the conversation to, was exactly what I said," Carney said during a campaign stop in Port Moody, B.C., Thursday.

Carney said that while Trump did bring up the 51st state, he chose, at the time, to describe where the two leaders ended their conversation, rather than giving a detailed blow-by-blow of the call.

Es un día gris, fresco y húmedo. Pero empecé a encontrar pequeños remansos de paz en medio del dolor, y cada día, ese remanso de paz crece, y aprecio más las pequeñas cosas de la vida. Como después de mis tareas matutinas habituales, simplemente tumbarme en el sofá y revisar mi móvil para ver las últimas novedades de mis grupos de redes sociales este viernes por la mañana.

Después de tomarme el cereal mientras esperaba a que terminara el café, levanto a Paula y tomamos un café en la mesa del comedor con vistas a mi espacio verde a través de las puertas corredizas. También me encanta pasar un rato en mi espacio verde, tomando el sol cuando puedo.
