Well, it started nice and sunny and warm. It was nice to go out in the living room with the sliding glass doors open all night for the first time, letting in the fragrance from outside. Even though it is short-lived, I love it. It's now cloudy again, and it got cooler without the sun. That is about all there is to report from the Newsroom this morning. President Donald Trump signed a presidential memorandum last night deploying 2,000 National Guardsmen to Los Angeles to disperse protests that began in response to immigration raids on Friday.

“Additional information will be provided as units are identified and deployed,” NORTHCOM said in a social media post.

Separately, the California governor’s office said in a statement that 300 National Guardsmen were “deployed between 0200-0400 Sunday at three sites around Los Angeles.”

ABC News suspends Terry Moran after Trump administration condemns 'hater' post

Veteran ABC News correspondent Terry Moran was suspended Sunday after he posted a highly critical assessment of President Donald Trump and Trump's deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller on the social media platform X.

In the missive, which was posted shortly after midnight, Moran said both Trump and Miller are "world-class haters." For Trump, he said, hatred is "only a means to an end, and that end is his own glorification. That's his spiritual nourishment."

For Miller, on the other hand, "hatreds are his spiritual nourishment," Moran charged. "He eats his hate."

Moran, who landed a rare Oval Office interview with Trump in April — later deleted the tweet and didn't post anything further.

On Sunday morning, Trump administration officials condemned Moran and said the post reflected poorly on ABC News as an institution. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt publicly pushed ABC to discipline Moran.

"We have reached out to ABC to inquire about how they plan to hold Terry accountable," she wrote on X.

Germany plans rapid expansion of outdated bunkers amid fears of Russian aggression

Germany’s aging and decrepit bunker network is in need a major overhaul, according to the head of the federal agency tasked with nationwide civil protection in case of an attack.

The Federal Agency for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief (BBK) President Ralph Tiesler said in an interview with popular German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, “For a long time, there was a widespread belief in Germany that war was not a scenario we needed to prepare for. That has changed. We are concerned about the risk of a major war of aggression in Europe.”

Tiesler’s words represent a real fear, echoed across Europe, that Russia could try to mount an attack on Europe again within four years. That timeframe is widely regarded as the minimum period Russia would need to rearm after fighting a bloody and long campaign in Ukraine.

The superintendent of a construction crew that sheltered in a shipping container as an out of control wildfire closed in around them says they're lucky to be alive.

The 19-person crew — with all but one hailing from communities across Manitoba — had been working at a job site near Sandy Lake in northwestern Ontario. The site included workers from Sigfusson Northern and Milestone Environmental Contracting Inc. who were doing a project for Sandy Lake First Nation.

Terrifying video posted to social media shows the massive flames and smoke leaping above the treeline against a red sky, just metres from where the group was huddled.

"I thought we're going to perish, actually," said Neal Gillespie, who works with Milestone Environmental Contracting Inc.

"As soon as we start getting our gear out there, within the next 45 minutes, that's how quick the fire jumped on top of us," he said.

He said the group had to abandon their equipment, and gather together inside the 'very barren' camp area, following the emergency planning they'd been doing for weeks.
