Dumb, dumb, snow. For the first time since we have been here, seven years now, I have not seen this much snow here on the peninsula. I went out twice to sweep and shovel snow, in two installments this morning, once before coffee and cereal and after to sweep off my artificial plants.

Consumer financial watchdog is ordered by acting director to stop fighting financial abuse

Russell Vought, the newly installed acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, sent an email Saturday night ordering all employees at the consumer watchdog to stop virtually all work — including fighting financial abuse.

“Effective immediately, unless expressly approved by the Acting Director or required by law, all employees, contractors and other personnel of the bureau shall…cease all supervision and examination activity,” Vought wrote in the email, a copy of which was viewed by -CNN-.

In practice, this means that the nation’s top consumer financial watchdog has effectively been pulled off the street, prevented from providing oversight over big banks, payday lenders and other financial institutions that could be hurting consumers.

Israel completed its withdrawal from the Netzarim Corridor on Sunday, a key road that splits Gaza in half, as part of its commitments under a ceasefire agreement with Hamas.

Palestinians have been filing through the area by foot, car and in some cases, by donkeys video footage showed, although those traveling must navigate a checkpoint and the destruction wrought by months of fighting in Gaza.

A new project providing transitional housing in converted shipping containers in Gatineau, Que., is proving a success, advocates say.

On a parking lot next to the former Robert-Guertin Centre in Hull, Village Transitiôn aims to reduce homelessness by providing private and safe lodging to residents who previously lived in tents.

The first residents moved in shortly before Christmas and already the 40 units of the project's first stage are full.

Other types of drones have already proven critical to Ukraine during the war, and it has used them to take the fight to the enemy — along the front lines and beyond. Russia has likewise sent men and machines into the fray, wielding its own army of drones on Ukrainian soil.

Amid this fast-changing environment, Ukraine is now aiming to use ground drones — also known as unmanned ground vehicles, or UGVs — to help its military carry out key tasks and keep more of its soldiers safe.
