HAPPY NEW YEAR!Well, I must say, it was relatively mild out there this morning. It was mild enough for me to stand there in my nightgown, briefly enjoying the early morning silence. I have been up and about since 5:30 p.m., and there has been no problem. I just couldn't sleep anymore, so I got up. I thought to myself, "If I tire out during the day, I can always take a nap."
In the past, I have always slept like a catβyou know, cat naps. But since then, I have adapted to getting up with the sun. And I didn't much mind; it was nice to stay under the covers until it got daylight; it just meant lights out earlier.
It just got to the point where I didn't feel there was any reason to get up before the sun rose. Well, I was up well before the sun rose this morning. "Jeepers, Creepers!"

I used to love that. I used to do my most productive work when the "aliens in orbit around the Earth!" looked down and saw my house in the North American Continent with the only lights still on.
That's enough of that. Now, I will see if anyone is up to creating anything newsworthy this early. There is always the usual debauchery, but I sure wish there was some brighter stuff this time.

Attention DOGE: Here's how the federal government spends Americans' tax dollars
As the co-heads of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, billionaires Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are promising to slash at least $2 billion from the federal budget.
The duo have cited areas they'd like to target, such as the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Education, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. And they want to take a hard look at foreign aid, defense spending and the inaccurate payments the government sends to Social Security recipients and others.
But taking that big a chunk out of federal spending would be a tall order, experts say. Much of the money supports mandatory programs, which must be funded in accordance with existing laws. These include Social Security and Medicare benefits and interest on the federal debt.

Canada lags behind U.S. in screening technology, expert says
An investigation by Indian officials that alleges dozens of Canadian colleges and universities might be linked to a scheme of illegally ferrying students across the Canada-U.S. border reveals the "staggering" extent to which holes in the immigration system can be exploited, some experts say.
"If the allegations are true, it reveals shocking gaps in our integrity protocols.β¦ This is deeply, deeply concerning and problematic," Raj Sharma, a Calgary-based immigration lawyer, told CBC News Network, adding that the allegations suggest "wide-scale human smuggling."
India's Enforcement Directorate said in a news release on Tuesday it had uncovered evidence of human trafficking involving two "entities" in Mumbai after probing the Indian connection to the Patel family, who froze to death in January 2022 while trying to cross the border from Manitoba into Minnesota during frigid weather conditions.
