TREE HOUSE NEWS 🏡

Land of Whispering Pines 🌲

Good morning! I pray The Great Spirit be with you 🙏 🌅

Yesterday, I listed what I do in this Newsroom and what I am here for. I am here to entertain, share the latest news from the world stage, as well as more local news, and provide updates on our TACO in cheese; 🥙 🧀 I still think he uses baby sh-t for makeup.

The weather, "Oh me achin' bones!" I love sharing some humor, and less about fat coats and cold weather and more about the old goat who had a hole in his boat and suddenly stood up a' shoutin and a' wavin' his arms about, while the old DOGE 🐕 stood remotely by on the road, wearing his overcoat, laughed at such goings on a sayin' there ain't no such thing as empathy. 😡 So he turns with an impish look on his face, pushes his hat forward, and leaves, thinking, let the old goat sink in his boat. 😮 Short story teller too. (Picaresque) In English = "roguish," "rascally," "prankish," "devilish," and "raffish," and sometimes with a touch of sarcasm. 😉

I am also here to learn, to teach, and share my own experiences. I enjoy delving into deeper subjects sometimes, such as topics ranging from quantum mechanics to spirituality, which encompasses the totality of the universe. That will be about it from me in the Newsroom for today. Maybe my Editor in Chief may have a couple of minutes today to share some thoughts with us. Thank you for reading the news.

Is it wrong to joke around with someone's lack of intelligence?

INSULT SOMEONE'S INTELLIGENCE Definition & Meaning

Webster Dictionary:

The meaning of INSULT SOMEONE'S INTELLIGENCE is to treat someone as though he or she is stupid. How to use insult someone's intelligence in a sentence.

Part 2: English definitions powered by Oxford

  • To insult someone's intelligence:

treat someone as less intelligent than they are

EX. The intro. starts insulting my intelligence and asking me to ignore obvious flaws in logic

Cambridge University: To make someone or something seem ridiculous by making jokes about the person or thing: Late-night comedy shows often poke fun at politicians.

And me!

In my opinion:

Suppose the pun intends to show or illustrate to them something that doesn't make sense, funnily. In that case, they may reconsider the absurdity of their proposition, especially if the answer to this question could adversely affect society; then the question becomes easier to answer.

Since having served as a social worker for most of twenty-five years, I have learned that there are mental health consumers out there who, without life skills, get lost in the daily activity of a normal, organised lifestyle without some help. Which is why rehabs and therapists are of so much importance.

If they're an ignorant, arrogant, misogynistic, racist, and elitist individual in most cases, these are adult children who grew up in neglect, and many from abusive drug and alcohol environments.

I have found that being passive and quiet, and simply letting them air it out, is the best approach. I have found that most times, they just needed to vent. We all do that, we're not angels, if we did, we would have a problem with sh-t in our feathers. We're humans who make mistakes.

Now there's a difference between dumb dumb and stupid. Dumb dumb is forgivable and even laughable; being dumb dumb is simply doing or saying something where one knows they should know better but won't admit it. But stupidity can hurt, even kill. I also love psychology. From your armchair psychologist, Dr. Fairy Lady.👩‍🔬 [IS IN]

Joni Ernst’s ‘Well, we all are going to die,’ and the GOP’s flippant defenses of Trump’s agenda

One of the reasons politicians don’t often engage in massive overhauls of the American economy is that it’s very difficult to defend a massive overhaul of the American economy. However good any given plan is, it often produces losers and – even in the best of cases – some short-term pain.

And repeatedly now as President Donald Trump has launched multiple massive overhauls, prominent Republicans have learned that the hard way.

Israel’s plan to ‘conquer’ Gaza is leaving Palestinians with little place to go: 5 maps show how

Even before Israel’s war in Gaza started, the territory was one of the most densely populated places on the planet, described by United Nations officials as an “open-air prison.” Now, Israeli forces are expanding their operations, cramming the population into an ever-shrinking patch of land.

Israel’s latest military offensive, named “Gideon’s Chariots,” aims to finally “conquer” the territory, as one government minister put it. Almost 80% of the enclave has come under evacuation orders or been designated as a militarized zone since March 18 when Israel broke its ceasefire with Hamas, according to the UN. Since then, Israel has a declared policy – backed by the US – to encourage resettlement of Gaza’s residents.

As part of the “intensified operation,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the whole population of Gaza – around 2 million people – will be displaced to the south of the 140 square-mile territory.

The Israeli military claims the operation is aimed at destroying Hamas and freeing hostages. Meanwhile, Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said the operation could lead to a complete takeover of the territory.

“We are finally going to conquer the Gaza Strip,” he said after Israel’s security cabinet approved the expanded campaign.

Can Mark Carney defeat Canadian populism?

The ultimate fate of the populist appeal may depend on what His Majesty's government does next

Speaking to reporters after the speech from the throne on Tuesday, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre struck a decidedly institutionalist tone.

"We joined today in thanking His Majesty for coming to Canada and delivering the throne speech, reinforcing our ancient, great British liberties," he said. "A parliamentary system that goes back 800 years. A system that has served Canada well and has been the foundation of what I love to call the Canadian promise."

A Conservative praising the monarch might not seem unusual. Former foreign affairs minister John Baird, a close ally of Poilievre's, once demanded that his department hang a portrait of the Queen in the foyer of its headquarters...

BREAKING NEWS:

SMOKE TO POUR INTO THE US AS CANADA WILDFIRES FORCE PROVINCES LARGEST EVACUATION IN LIVING HISTORY

Massive wildfires burning out of control in western and central Canada are forcing thousands to flee as dire forecasts for the country’s fire season come to fruition. The intensifying blazes are also sending hazardous smoke toward major cities in the United States.

The premiers of Manitoba and Saskatchewan have declared states of emergency, and much of Canada, from the Northwest Territories and Alberta to Ontario, are at “extreme” risk of wildfires on Friday — the highest level on Environment Canada’s fire risk scale.

There are just over 170 wildfires burning across Canada as of Thursday, according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center, and about half are uncontrolled. The country raised its National Preparedness Level to level 5 of 5 on Thursday, which is unusually high for this early in the fire season. Last year, Canada didn’t reach that level until July 15.

In Manitoba, around 17,000 people are under evacuation orders, including the city of Flin Flon, Pimicikamak Cree Nation and the northern community of Cross Lake, along with Mathias Colomb Cree Nation, according to CNN’s Canadian news partner CBC News.

Good morning! I pray The Great Spirit be with you 🙏 🌅

The sun is making a valiant effort to emerge from the clouds, 🌥 but not being very successful at it yet this spring. I think the spring fell off the wagon, and we're now riding on the axles, going downhill on a very bumpy road with no brakes. Yikes! That's how the climate appears to be going here, into the sh-t can. As far as grey, gloomy, damp, and cold go, the scrotum effect is the weather here in Ontario. In other words, another one of those COAT SUMMERS! 🧥 Might as well move back to Vancouver. There are only three types of weather there: ☁️ 🌧 🌨 , and when it gets to 65° F, it's a heat wave. Seven years of that was all I could take.

Well, I got my own suns on again for today, and I have an answer for the morning chills. The heat in this place ceases to turn on once the temperature outside drops to the low to mid-fifties, between 51°F and 58°F. That reduces the temperature to about 60 to 65°F in the house through the night, which is rather chilly when you get out from under the warm blankets. I got up this morning, put on my coat, and turned on a small portable heater on the kitchen counter for half an hour. Then, I took off my coat and turned off the heater. That little heater will come in handy on cool mornings.

I also have two Coleman heaters, which are capable of warming the living room and bathroom area during a winter night if the power goes out. Additionally, I have a solar generator and two solar panels. Well, that's about it from the Newsroom today. Thank you for reading the news. I can only add that at this stage of the game, at my age, my bones are aching like hell from all this cold dampness and no warmth or sun. The Old Grey Mare ain't What She used to be

I have noticed that on Reddit, many people gather to share and discuss the difficulties they face each day, following Trump's disastrous firings and businesses going bankrupt due to the tariffs. I think it's essential to have a social gathering place where people can support one another during a crisis. I also appreciate Bluesky for its freedom in expressing your feelings about the latest crises or disasters, whether natural or man-made, and for delivering the news in an informed, intelligent, and thorough manner, leaving no stones unturned. That is also my desire, and I also endorse free speech as long as you leave slamming someone else in the group out of it.

Anyway, BE WARNED! Some social networks will not tolerate slamming anyone in discussions, not even those who you think deserve it and are, without a doubt, the guilty party. I agree with that rule. In my news, you will note that all adjectives used are from my own vocabulary of homemade adjectives, which are invented words, in an attempt to make a slamming gesture with dry humor, like, circa, Jack Benny (1894-1974)—Picaresque, in French.

Americans pulled back on their spending in April amid the tariff rollout

American consumers reined in their spending in April following a tariff-fueled buying binge the month before, according to new data released Friday that also showed inflation cooled off again.

Friday’s report from the Commerce Department showed that consumer spending rose 0.2% last month, a weaker-than-anticipated reading but a notable retreat from March’s 0.7% surge when Americans front-loaded purchases — notably new cars — ahead of potential price increases from President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

The latest data also showed inflation moving closer to the Federal Reserve’s target of 2%, almost where it was before the tariffs rollout...

Exclusive: Kristi Noem said a migrant threatened to kill Trump. Investigators think he was set up

US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem speaks during a hearing with the House Homeland Security Committee on Capitol Hill on May 14 in Washington, DC.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem posted a stunning allegation on Wednesday: A undocumented migrant sent a letter threatening to kill President Donald Trump, promising to "self-deport" after the assassination.

"Thanks to our ICE officers, this illegal alien who threatened to assassinate President Trump is behind bars," Noem wrote in a social media post that included the letter and a picture of the man arrested. DHS also sent out a press release.

Multiple news outlets picked up the story. The president's allies used it to highlight what they see as the dangers of undocumented migrants and the work of the administration to boot them out of the country... Read More:

This company says its technology can help save the world. It's now cutting 20% of its staff as Trump slashes climate funding

Two huge plants in Iceland operate like giant vacuum cleaners, sucking in air and stripping out planet-heating carbon pollution. This much-hyped climate technology is called direct air capture, and the company behind these plants, Switzerland-based Climeworks, is perhaps its most high-profile proponent.

But a year after opening a huge new facility, Climeworks is straining against strong headwinds. The company announced this month it would lay off around 20% of its workforce, blaming economic uncertainties and shifting climate policy priorities.

"We've always known this journey would be demanding. Today, we find ourselves navigating a challenging time," Climeworks' CEOs Christoph Gebald and Jan Wurzbacher said in a statement... Read More:

Good morning! I pray The Great Spirit be with you 🙏 🌅

Well, here it is, Thursday the 29th of May. "What? The end of May already?" What happened to April? Let alone May! Two months went by, and still no real springtime, just teasers. And here the weather is still stuck back in half past Last November, American Thanksgiving. Cloudy, cold, damp, and soggy, April Fool's Day every day since half past last November. 🌬 💦 "I gots barnacles growing on my toes!" Maybe I'm going to turn into The Mermaid Lady 🧜‍♂️ instead of the Fairy Lady 🧚‍♀️. 😆

That's enough about the weather. Well, this was undoubtedly good news last night:

Federal court strikes down Trump's tariffs on countries around the world

The US Court of International Trade ruled unanimously that the president overstepped his powers in imposing the tariffs on dozens of trading partners, most of which he's since paused.

The United States Constitution, the nation's supreme law, establishes the framework for the federal government and defines its powers and limitations. In essence, it embodies the principles of separation of powers, federalism, and the process of constitutional amendment.

Most countries, including Canada, have a constitution, a document outlining the fundamental principles of governance, rights, and freedoms. Some countries, like New Zealand, have an unwritten constitution, meaning their governing principles are derived from a combination of statutes, conventions, and court decisions.

Part 2

The Constitution of Canada includes the Constitution Act, 1867, and the Constitution Act, 1982. It is the supreme law of Canada. It reaffirms Canada's dual legal system and also includes Aboriginal rights and treaty rights.

Fascist regimes may or may not have a constitution, but if they do, it's often disregarded or manipulated to serve the dictator's will. While fascist states often appear to operate within a framework of laws, the actual power rests with the dictator, who can circumvent or ignore legal procedures at will.

In other words, the law of the gun. Whoever owns a gun writes their own law. Anyway, that is what The Orange Pus Bag wants. The gun and concentration camps filled with workers who work for slave wages just to buy the vittles at the company store.

Home sellers now outnumber buyers by largest margin in 12 years, report finds

After years of bidding wars and climbing home prices, the balance of power in the housing market may finally be shifting.

Home sellers now vastly outnumber buyers in the US, according to an analysis released Thursday from real estate company Redfin. The report found that there were nearly 500,000 more home sellers in the market than buyers as of April, the largest gap between the two groups since Redfin began compiling the data in 2013.

The data is an early indication that the US housing market may be experiencing a slowdown — not because home prices nationally are becoming more affordable, but because there are fewer buyers. It’s the latest sign that a long-building affordability crisis, now compounded by trade tensions and recession fears, may be finally catching up with the housing market.

The Vatican has held sacred belongings for a century. Now their Indigenous owners want them back

Inside Vatican City, the home of Pope Leo, lies a vast collection of Indigenous artifacts that some people say shouldn’t be there.

The collection includes thousands dozens of colonial-era objects, including a rare Inuvialuit sealskin kayak from the western Arctic, a pair of embroidered Cree leather gloves, a 200-year-old wampum belt, a baby belt from the Gwich’in people and a beluga tooth necklace.

They are relics of a time of cultural destruction, critics say, taken by the Roman Catholic Church a century ago as trophies of missionaries in far-off lands.

Pope Francis promised to return the artifacts to communities in Canada as part of what he called a “penitential pilgrimage” for abuses against Indigenous people by the Church. But several years on, they remain in the Vatican’s museums and storage vaults.

Indigenous leaders are now urging Pope Leo to finish what Francis started and give the artifacts back.

Ontario NDP, Liberals successfully stall Bill 5 after filibustering until midnight Thursday

Monday is the earliest the committee process can continue, Liberal MPP Ted Hsu says

Bill 5 was successfully stalled in committee after Ontario NDP and Liberal MPPs filibustered from around 4 p.m. on Wednesday until midnight Thursday.

The filibuster has blocked the controversial bill from going into its third and final reading, as the committee process will now continue into next week, Ontario NDP said in a statement on X just after midnight on Thursday.

The MPPs "used every committee tool to delay progress [on] Ford's attempt to rush through this legislation without proper consultation," the statement said.

Bill 5 would create so-called "special economic zones" where the government can exempt companies or projects from complying with provincial laws or regulations. It would also replace the province's endangered species act, replacing it with a new law that critics say waters down protections...

Why Canada Is Pressing Reset on Immigration Levels

In his directive to cabinet ministers, Carney made it clear—Canada will aim to scale back immigration to what he terms “sustainable levels.” This is not about closing the doors, but about slowing down to recalibrate.

The cute captain of the catamaran I met back at the boat dock in Louisiana in '72, remember? We were sitting in the moonlight under the Spanish Moss by the Great Mississlopy, er, I mean Mississippi, Ya know how that goes, don't ya? That was about 32 Tree House News stories ago.

When I was still a young gal, making her way to Dixieland, I went just to see if it was really there. THAT WAS THE GOOD OLD DAYS. What Border?

I have only good memories of the places I've been to and even hung my hat for a while, and I want to keep it that way. White men started taking scalps way before Chief One Feather did, and I'm only a little feather.

A BACKUP GOVERNEMENT

A "backup government" refers to mechanisms established to ensure the continuity of government operations in the event of a disaster, crisis, or emergency. This concept is also known as "continuity of government" (COG). COG plans involve various measures to maintain essential government functions when the primary government structure is incapacitated.

I KNOW THERE IS A BACKUP

No government as great as it was, organised, advanced, complex, and superior in technology as America (WAS), a shining jewel in the eye of the world, now turned to a rusty tin can. Who would allow for such a (MANIAC) to take over the country without safeguards in place against such tyranny? Cmon! Even the Sumerians kept records of their past on clay tablets. And the Dead Sea Scrolls. I would like to think that someday, a couple of thousand years from now, the exchange of our entire history will be recorded in the form of something as small as a flash drive, or even smaller.

There are many levels in a hierarchy, even in a fascist country, the KGB, for example, here they are simply called the spooks by those on the outside, many of whom, even a leader of a country, is not privy to.

In less than five months, this maniac has removed all the tentacles from the American octopus, rendering it useless and vulnerable to outside forces. There has to be a discipline, a stopgap to prevent the further deterioration of a civilized country—someone who knows what they're doing and still has access to the reset button after the insanity pandemic ends. If not, then America is doomed, because of the stupidity of NOT HAVING an invisible government, which I think is essential in protecting the nation and its history. I say, VIVE LA RESISTANCE.

What's next for Starship? Musk's comments offer some clues

Today’s flight did not go exactly as expected. And the fact that SpaceX lost contact with Starship and left it to spin out of control as it reentered Earth’s atmosphere is a strong indicator that federal regulators will require SpaceX to open an investigation into what went wrong.

That was the case after the last two mid-flight Starship mishaps in January and March.

Before the FAA gives SpaceX the go-ahead for another test flight, the agency typically requires SpaceX to file paperwork demonstrating the company understands the issue...

The sound of sparrows chirping on a rainy morning is punctuated by the occasional crackle of tires rolling on wet pavement. The city is still waking up. Soledad is, too, walking in the drizzle to a bus stop near her apartment.

In about 30 minutes, she'll punch in and begin her day working as a janitor in a government building where she keeps bathrooms and kitchens clean. A short bus ride from her neighborhood leaves just enough time to grab a quick cup of coffee before her shift begins.

Developers found guilty of defrauding investors out of retirement savings in Barrie, Winnipeg

Defence lawyers previously argued risks were made clear to those involved

Two men have been found guilty of fraud over $5,000 after misleading investors on two never-realized projects in Barrie, Ont., and in Winnipeg.

"Mr. Rathore and Mr. Petrozza are smart, sophisticated businessmen," Moore said, before telling the two men to stand as he delivered his judgment.
