Well, again, it's like an early morning in early June here at the Tree House, outside in my Green Space. Everything is still and peaceful, not a sound. The trees are standing like great sentinels all around. The still cool air and warm sun make it pleasant to be outside; it's definitely a fine day.

It was only eight years ago that I was walking the trails on a day like this. Too much sick time since the breakout of Covid, I've been ill or laid up for one thing or another, never really fully recovered. I pray 🙏🙏🙏 to see what it's like to have a full year without pain and being sick. Thank you for allowing me to rant a little. From my experience with suffering, I can see why if you survive all this 💩 you should qualify to be canonized for sainthood, "in my opinion!"🙇‍♀️🤔

I'm here, on asteroid 36and a 1/2 somewhere between the Delta quadrant and the Alpha quadrant. "The retro rockets failed!" And here I am stranded on this damned rock in the middle of nowhere!

Federal judge demands answers from Trump admin on following order to avoid violent encounters with Chicago protesters

A judge in Illinois said she has “serious concerns” over whether federal law enforcement agents are following her order to avoid violent encounters with protesters and journalists in Chicago.

“I’m a little startled frankly, that since Thursday when I entered the (temporary restraining order) last week, I’m getting images and seeing images on the news, in the paper, reading reports, where at least from what I’m seeing, I’m having serious concerns that my order’s being followed,” said US District Court Judge Sara Ellis in a hearing called on short notice Thursday.

Brett Kavanaugh holds the future of the Voting Rights Act in his hands

After an impassioned set of arguments Wednesday over the 1965 Voting Rights Act, the question is whether Justice Brett Kavanaugh is willing to completely dismantle a law intended to ensure equal voting power for Blacks and other racial minorities.

Kavanaugh appears to be the pivotal justice in the Louisiana case, just as he was two years ago in a similar redistricting dispute from Alabama. He and Chief Justice John Roberts, who has demonstrated his own ambivalences on the VRA, worked together on a surprising compromise in 2023 that preserved the force of the landmark act.

Compensation for D.C. trade rep Richard Madan approaches salary for PM Mark Carney

A former CTV and CBC reporter hired by Wab Kinew’s NDP government to lead Manitoba’s trade office in Washington, D.C., is earning a $387,000 annual salary, the premier’s office disclosed Wednesday. Former White House correspondent Richard Madan will earn more this year leading the D.C trade office than either Kinew will earn as Manitoba premier ($195,936 for the 12 months ending March 30) or Scott Gillingham will earn as Winnipeg’s mayor ($223,338 as of 2024).

New home construction up 14% in September from previous month, says CMHC

Sharper increase was higher than expected by economists

Canadian housing starts, also known as new home construction, rose 14 per cent in September compared with the previous month — a sharper increase than expected, data from the national housing agency showed on Thursday. The seasonally adjusted annualized rate of housing starts was 279,234 units, up from a revised 244,543 units in August, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) said.

Economists had expected new builds to rise to 255,000 units.
