Land of Whispering Pines

Good morning! May the Great Spirit bless you 🙏

I was up and at it at my usual time this morning, feeling better than I did yesterday. I got the coffee on, put away the clean dishes from the dishwasher, had my cereal, took my dumdum pills, and then went out to my Green Space with my coffee.

It was cloudy, dark, gloomy, damp, and cool, so I came back in and turned on a few lights to brighten the place up. Now it is 9:00 a.m., and the sun finally appears to be trying to break through the clouds.

I don't think there is a soul in today's society that hasn't heard it said or read somewhere that the deterioration of society began with the Baby Boomers. The information was available for those sufficiently curious to understand the mechanics of government decision-making or law-making. It also covered the behavioral patterns of thinking and feeling regarding the welfare of its people. The human factor, including emotions and beliefs about how the system should be run, is where politics, religion, and the scientific community clash.

You have all this confusion: one side says this, the other side says that. With all the lying going on, like selling hotcakes at a street bakeoff competition, it is confusing to evaluate who's right or wrong. Because today, too many psychoes are given the reins to control the government. We now have a country run by IDIOTS with the IQ of an amoeba, knuckle draggers. A TOTALITARIAN ORANGE PUS BAG AND HIS DUNCE CADETS make the rules and decisions, with a Congress that has given its powers to the Pus Bag et al. THAT is scary.

Take it from an 80-year-old HIPPIE, there have been better days, and We, the People can make it better days again, let the waves roll, let the thunder roll, no matter who is on patrol, play those drums! It's Harry the Mole on the skins, with Bobbie McGee on the fiddle, and we the people a' playin' the banjo! We will all have a barrel of fun, until McFee decides to pee over the precipice into Lake Cherokee. There we have McFee holding his wee wee and a singin' "Come Fly with me!"

TODAY'S DISCUSSION:

60's Flower Children

- Google Search -

60's Flower Children

"60's flower children" were young people, primarily associated with the hippie movement, who rejected conventional society in favor of peace, love, and alternative values. The term, also called "flower power," was popularized by the San Francisco scene, especially during the 1967 Summer of Love. Their lifestyle was characterized by an opposition to war, particularly the Vietnam War, and a rejection of consumerism, often expressed through communal living, music, art, and a focus on peace, love, and spiritual exploration.

Signed, FLOWER CHILD, aka _The Fairy Lady_ from back in the Sixties and Seventies, where the sun rose in the East and set in the West. All was well; most were happy and filled with hope and aspirations for the future.

I can only say that back then, in the 60s and 70s, in my teen years, we had our warts, but We, the People also had a dream for the future, and the "American carnage" Trump has caused certainly ISN'T THE PICTURE WE HAD IN MIND. This is like stopping at the edge of the trail to use the outhouse, and while you're sitting in it, some Conservative butt hole shoves the outhouse over because you're a Liberal.

If there is another Flower Child Movement, I want to be active, even if I have to show up in a wheelchair loaded with flowers for everyone to put in a soldier's gun barrel. What will they do? This whole donkey barbecue we're living will someday make it into the annals of history. How would you like to read it?

GOP leaders steadfast in shutdown stance despite rising pressure inside party

Top Republicans in Congress will take a massive gamble on shutdown politics in the coming days: GOP leaders will not step in to prevent missed paychecks to the military.

The master mind behind all this have to be sadist and right

It’s the most dramatic step yet by Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Speaker Mike Johnson to attempt to force Democrats to end the government shutdown, even as they realize their party will, too, face political pain for the move. And it comes at a high-stakes moment for both parties: This will be the first time in recent history that active-duty military service members will miss a paycheck on a large scale during a shutdown.

But behind the scenes, Thune and Johnson have agreed that Republicans can make no attempts to lessen the pain they argue Democrats are causing millions of Americans by rejecting the GOP’s plan to simply extend current funding – concerned that if Congress took that step, Democrats would face less pressure to reopen the government, according to multiple GOP leadership sources...

Trump says hostages being retrieved ‘now’ as aid trucks start entering Gaza

What We're Covering

Tens of thousands of Palestinians are returning home in Gaza as a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas entered a second day. Many found only ruins while local authorities say scores of bodies have been pulled from rubble. Some aid has begun entering the territory under the terms of the agreement.

Israelis are expected to rally later as families of hostages held in Gaza await the return of their loved ones. The countdown for the release of hostages held by Hamas has begun and a source said it could come as early as overnight Sunday into Monday local time. Nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees in Israel will also be freed.

US President Donald Trump, who will be in the region Monday, said yesterday hostages are being retrieved “now” and thinks the ceasefire will hold because countries involved in and affected by the conflict are “all tired of the fighting.” ...

One of the world's biggest AI companies wants a deal with Canada. Is sovereignty the trade-off?

Company needs energy to power massive centres to store AI data

One of the world's biggest artificial intelligence companies is knocking on Canada's door, potentially armed with an offer that — under normal circumstances — would be hard to refuse. OpenAI is building a global network of data centres to store the massive amounts of information collected by its services, including ChatGPT — and Canada's cheap energy could help with that.

The company believes AI and its associated infrastructure will be the base of future economic development, and it says it wants to help spread what it calls "democratic AI." It recently launched "OpenAI for countries" to pounce on the opportunity...

Land of Whispering Pines

Good morning! May the Great Spirit bless you 🙏

Sorry for the late news this morning. I certainly wasn't in one of my most energetic states, not like yesterday. Maybe I forgot to plug myself in to charge before I went to bed. At my age, who knows? I do that with my cellphone all the time! I get up in the morning, check my phone, and find it's dead. Then I have to tether myself to the phone with a cord if I want to check it out. You know that kind of putzing around in the morning type of thing, knocking over stuff, putting the milk in the cupboard. I sat down and reclined on the couch for a moment, and I was gone with the wind.🤨💨🤔

The best part of this whole donkey barbecue this morning was waking up from my nap to find the coffee ready. At least I managed to do that correctly; my toenails didn't curl up when I tasted the coffee, either. ☕🦶⤴️ 😂🤣 That is why I am so grateful I don't have to do anything by the clock anymore.*_

_*Well, that's about it from the Newsroom this morning. Partner is up, so we did a bit of chin waggin' and once more I turned back to doing the news while sitting in the bright sunlight streaming through the sliding glass doors. I contemplatively sipped on my coffee, then commenced typing.

TODAY'S DISCUSSION:

Stress From Clock Watching

My personal observation on Clock Watching and Stress:

I already wasted most of my life clock watching, and I must say, the clock was also my worst enemy on the job as well. The passage of time was especially miserable in those tiny doctors' waiting rooms, or any small rooms without even a hook to hang your cane, coat, and purse. You just throw them on the floor behind the chair, I guess. And most times, those places are full of people. It's not just the bugs they carry. I also feel like I'm stuck in a Sargasso Sea of bubbling, gooey, irritating emotions that feel like tiny gnawing insects. Clock Watching is about as interesting as watching cockroaches molting 🪳. At least, it's probably more interesting to watch a cockroach taking its suit off than watching the grass grow. ⛳️

Too much feedback, eh? Anyway, crowded places made me feel kind of panicky! They make me want to crawl into a hole and pull the hole in with me! So I learned to get "Lost in Space" to go to a safer and more comfortable place in my mind. That worked, except for one thing: if you don't mind being invisible, nobody notices you standing right there beside the lamppost with all the posters stapled to it, or next to the fire hydrant the dog just urinated on. You see the dog, the hydrant, the lampost, and the posters, but not me. I like self-deprecatory humor and making fun of dunces. I call it cartoon time. I share the cartoons a lot with my partner.

- Google Search -

Stress from clock-watching stems from increased pressure, anxiety about time running out, and a feeling of being out of control. This can manifest as obsessive behavior, a sense of overwhelm, sleep disruption, and a negative impact on work performance and relationships. To reduce stress, focus on specific tasks, manage your time with tools, and avoid looking at the clock, especially at night...

Carney announces long-awaited automatic tax filing, makes school food program permanent

Canada Strong Pass being extended over holiday season and summer of 2026

The Liberal government will begin rolling out a long-awaited automatic tax filing system for low- income Canadians and make the national school food program permanent in advance of a federal budget that the prime minister is promising will lay the groundwork to support the country’s most vulnerable citizens.

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the measures at a news conference Friday in his home riding of Nepean, Ont., where he also promised to extend the Canada Strong Pass over the holiday season and the summer of 2026. “In the budget, we will have to make responsible and pragmatic choices, and, yes, difficult decisions,” Carney said.

Canada's economy added 60,000 jobs in September, with gains led by manufacturing

Economists expected only a modest uptick in employment number

Canada's economy added 60,000 jobs in September, beating expectations with gains largely led by the tariff-vulnerable manufacturing sector, Statistics Canada said on Friday. The data agency said 28,000 jobs were added to manufacturing, marking the industry's first increase in employment since January and since the U.S. trade war forced it to contend with thousands of job losses.

"Trade-exposed industries are far from out of the woods given ongoing tariff uncertainty. But the solid month highlights how things are holding on, at least in the near term," wrote Brendon Bernard, senior economist at Indeed...

Land of Whispering Pines

Good morning! May the Great Spirit bless you 🙏

Yesterday was another sunny but cool day, with only a light breeze in my green space, bathed in the early morning sunlight that still retains warmth despite the cool air. It was still pleasant enough to sit out here with my coffee, just wearing a sweater. Today is supposed to be a carbon copy of yesterday. I have been here for seven years now in the Niagara Peninsula, and I do think this is about the best place in all of Canada to retire. Eh, me retire? The only thing that retired on me was the physical part, which mostly seems to be enjoying squashing couch cushions lately; the mental and spiritual aspects are still doing quite well, playing tag while waiting for the body to catch up.

TODAY'S DISCUSSION

psychogenic Pain

- Google Search -

Is psychogenic pain serious?

Even when pain isn't severe, it can still be a serious problem. Over time, chronic pain can seriously impact your health and well-being. In addition to how pain changes the way your nervous system functions, it can take a toll on your mental health in other ways. Anxiety and depression are common complications of chronic pain. All these factors combined mean that chronic pain is ultimately serious over time and needs diagnosis and treatment.

It's not really that bad, though. I believe that once my bad teeth are gone, I will be more relaxed from all this pain I've been through for the past three years. Maybe get some respite from feeling like the quivering, in-pain piece of meat I have been on and off for the last four years.

I love and appreciate it so much, and I feel tears of gratitude for those times when I have no discomfort. It feels like HEAVEN.

Yesterday, if it wasn't my stomach acting up, I was experiencing discomfort in my teeth, like a couple of gremlins playing Whack-a-Mole inside of me. So, when I feel pain in that way, my mood tends to sink to the bottom of my boots.

SO! If I got carried away a little incoherently in yesterday's news, forgive me. So far, I have been at the mercy of all this pain; now I will have to learn to be the master over it. I have to fight, or I will succumb. There is only so much a body can take. I wish I could eat a lot of beans and simply fart it all out of my Butt hole and get it over with. It's 1:26 AM. The soreness in my teeth has subsided, although it's intermittent, like a traffic light. Now I have 💩 stomachache syndrome.

October 8, 2025 - Israel and Hamas ceasefire agreement

What We Covered Here

Israel and Hamas have agreed to the first phase of a US-brokered ceasefire framework that will allow for the swift release of all hostages held in Gaza, Israeli withdrawal to an agreed point, and the release of some Palestinian prisoners.

President Donald Trump said the hostages are likely to be released on Monday. His announcement of the agreement did not address some sticking points in the proposal, including Hamas disarmament and the future governance of Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the agreement was a "diplomatic success and a national and moral victory" for his country. Hamas thanked Trump and all mediators involved: Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey.

Families of Israeli hostages held in Gaza and hostages previously released by Hamas celebrated the news. Palestinians in Gaza celebrated the agreement, cautiously hoping it would bring an end to Israel's war...

'Everyone's just getting destroyed': MTG calls on Johnson to bring House back to DC and rails on GOP handling of health care

GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene broke sharply with her party leaders on Wednesday as they tried to project a united front in the deepening standoff with Democrats over health care and the government shutdown, calling on Speaker Mike Johnson to bring the House back into session and warning that Americans would be hammered by higher costs if her party doesn't help right the ship.

Greene, a staunchly conservative Georgia Republican, warned that her party would face backlash from voters if rising health care costs are not addressed, underscoring the growing rift between the prominent Trump ally and GOP leaders.

"Everyone's just getting destroyed," Greene told CNN in an exclusive, wide-ranging interview from her House office. "Look, Democrats, you created this mess. Republicans, you have no solutions. You haven't come up with a new plan in place, and we're not even talking about it, and it is hurting so many people."...

National Guard troops have started their mission in Chicago area, official says, as court showdowns over deployments loom

Members of the Texas National Guard have deployed into the greater Chicago area, an official said Wednesday night, as lawyers prepare for critical court hearings on federalized troops 2,000 miles away from each other amid an ongoing battle between President Donald Trump and Democratic-led cities.

The Trump administration is tying planned deployments in Chicago and Portland, Oregon, to increasingly tense protests outside Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities, as well as citing the shooting at an ICE facility in Dallas. Two ICE detainees were killed there. Trump has called it an attack on law enforcement.

The Texas guardsmen are now deployed on their official mission of protecting US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other US Government personnel in the Chicago area, a US Northern Command spokesperson told CNN Wednesday night. James Comey’s long, strange trip into the jaws of Donald Trump’s campaign of retribution

Former FBI Director James Comey wasn’t always atop President Donald Trump’s enemies list.

“You’ve had one heck of a year,” Trump, then the president-elect, said to Comey in January 2017, the first time they met face-to-face privately at Trump Tower in New York. Trump told Comey he had a “great reputation” and handled the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server “honorably,” according to Comey’s re-telling of their meeting in his 2018 memoir.

That might have been the high point of their relationship.

Moments later, the FBI director told Trump for the first time about the infamous “Steele dossier,” which alleged that Trump and his campaign colluded with the Russians to win the 2016 election. 'We will get an even better deal,' Carney says after Oval Office meeting with Trump

Carney says Canada-U.S. officials are currently 'negotiating terms' of a deal on tariffs

Prime Minister Mark Carney said Wednesday Canadian and American officials are currently "negotiating terms" of a deal on tariffs a day after he met with the U.S. president to try and bring the trade war to a close — and Canada will come out ahead when the two sides come to an agreement.

Speaking in question period while facing pointed questions from the Opposition about what he accomplished out of his Oval Office sit-down with U.S. President Donald Trump, Carney said Canada already "has the best deal with the Americans" — most products are still being sold into the U.S. tariff-free despite Trump's trade action — and "we will get an even better deal." Good morning! May the Great Spirit bless you 🙏

Well, it is another beautiful sunrise in a perfectly blue sky with a slight breeze, but much cooler than it has been, 53°F. According to the long-range forecast, temperatures are expected to fluctuate in the mid-to-high 60s, with no frost predicted at night in October. More sun than clouds, I don't mind that. The color month, that's when you see all the fall colors of the deciduous trees, bright and beautiful, like giant, magical flaming bouquets. It's just a shame it doesn't last longer.

I wonder if there is a world where all the nice things last forever. I'm not sure if anyone else does, but I have been making comparisons since I can remember. What would it be like if it had gone that way instead of the way it did? Why can't people see what's obvious in front of them? What is hindsight? Why do I make so many mistakes down here in this particular tiny little dot in the fabric of Time and Space Infinitum? Why do we err so when there is perfect order in the universe?

Disney pairs aggressive discounts with small price increases at US parks. Here’s why

Theme park fans dread what has become an expected annual price increase for US Disney parks. But the new prices that hit Wednesday morning — along with some of the best discount offers in years — suggest the media and entertainment giant is being strategic in a year when no brand-new rides are likely to open, and many guests feel wary about the economy overall.

There will still be sticker shock for those trying to visit Walt Disney World or Disneyland on the busiest days of the year. The most expensive, single-day, single-park ticket during the Christmas or New Year’s weeks, for example, will go up 5% in Florida to $209 plus tax (the first time Magic Kingdom tickets will cross the $200 threshold). For Disneyland Resort in California, that peak ticket goes up by 8.7% to $224.

But for people flexible enough to visit during slower seasons, most other Disney World single-day, single-park tickets have increased by about an average of $5. Its lowest priced single-day ticket, $119 plus tax for Animal Kingdom park, will stay the same price...

Modular housing was a hit in Sweden but a bust in the U.S. How will Canada do?

Demand for affordable housing not necessarily demand for prefabricated homes

Like Sweden, Japan and the U.S. before it, Canada will start experimenting with scaled-up factory-built housing next year — and it has plenty of lessons to learn from countries where the industry has already matured. Build Canada Homes, the federal government's newly launched homebuilding agency, aims to fund the construction of 4,000 modular homes on federal land across the country starting next year. The public-private project — currently limited to six cities — could eventually scale to build 45,000 homes, according to Ottawa's announcement.

That's only a sliver of the 4.8 million homes that Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says will need to be built by 2030 to restore housing affordability in this country, but the federal government hopes prefabricated homes will play a crucial role in alleviating the housing crisis...

Canada and Germany talk maritime drones as Europe worries about threats to undersea infrastructure

Incidents around cables on ocean floor prompt security discussions

An old-fashioned game of cat and mouse has quietly unfolded for almost a year in parts of the North Atlantic, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea between NATO allies and a Russian surveillance ship.

It is a contest that has European political and military leaders increasingly concerned. Separately, but in tandem, there have been multiple incidents of subsurface cables being damaged over the last two years, mostly in the Baltic region, but also in July in an incident off Orkney and Banff in the U.K.

TREE HOUSE NEWS🏡

Land of Whispering Pines

Good morning! May the Great Spirit bless you 🙏

It's a beautiful morning to be alive and not feeling any pain. Even though it's cloudy, dark, gloomy, and raining outside, we needed the rain. It is still mild enough, though, to sit next to the open glass doors that lead onto my Green Space, where I can hear the raindrops, big fat raindrops, and no wind. Silence except for the raindrops. It is mesmerizing except for the noise of the dumb recycling truck. I hate diesel motors of any sort; they're smelly and noisy. And the Orange Pus Bag wants to use more fossil fuel. I hope he chokes on the stuff in the seven circles of Hell. You know, the one that's full of 💩 up to your neck, and when the break is over, you flip around and stand on your hands.

GOOD MORNING, D.J.T. ARSE HOLE, may the Bird Of Paradise 💩 on your head. And may you have all the bad luck that can befall a cockroach 🪳 like you. I would NOT WANT TO BE IN YOUR SHOES 🥾when your little empire 🏰 comes tumbling down like a card castle. 💶 It will someday, no one LIVES FOREVER, including a COCKROACH with the IQ of an amoeba! 👾 If not you, then your successor, and whoever that may be, won't last long. Once the alpha wolf, the leading brain, which certainly isn't you, Bucko, but when your Chief of Fake News, anti-vax, and down with empathy pals is eliminated, the rest of your pack of cowardly wolves, your Dunce Cadets, will scatter like rats on a sinking ship. 🐀🚢🌊

ATTACK OF THE ORANGE JABBA THE HUTT form Planet Syphilis.

1️⃣ Israel:

It’s a somber day in Israel as the country marks two years since Hamas launched its deadly attack on October 7, 2023. The massacre carried out by Hamas killed 1,200 Israelis and took more than 250 people hostage. Hamas and other militant groups still hold 48 hostages, 20 of whom are believed to be alive. October 7 inflicted deep trauma on Israeli communities, with many viewing it as Israel’s 9/11. It triggered a brutal retaliation from Israel on Hamas in Gaza, which the enclave’s health ministry says has killed more than 67,000 Palestinians — most of them women and children. Talks to end the war will continue in Egypt today as negotiators and mediators work to advance President Donald Trump’s proposed ceasefire plan...

[6] The Enemy Within:

Now Enters the Orange Jabba the Hutt's Dunce Brigade into the major Democratic states to eliminate the enemy within. To Republicans, the Democratic Party is the enemy within. I already knew that the fall of the Democratic party was imminent months ago after the "Big Beautiful Bill" deal went through. They have sold their souls to the company store and have become like automatons with the main processor of the brain removed and loose appendages flapping about uselessly like mackerels out of water, 🐟 DOES NOT COMPUTE!. 🤖💨🔩⚙️

I agree with Polieve this time; don't come back with promises and maybes. Trump's maybes and promises are not even worth the wood to make a wooden Canadian nickel out of.

Former Ontario hospital exec and construction company president guilty of fraud tied to $300M project

Vas Georgiou and John Aquino were accused of trying to steer a major contract to Aquino's company

A former hospital executive and the former president of a major Ontario construction company have been found guilty of fraud for their actions during the bidding process for the $ 300 million expansion of a downtown Toronto hospital. Vas Georgiou, former chief administrative officer at St. Michael's Hospital, and John Aquino, ex-president of Bondfield Construction, received the guilty verdicts on two counts each of fraud over $5,000 in a Toronto courtroom on Tuesday morning.

"The evidence that the defendants acted dishonestly over the course of the procurement process is overwhelming," Superior Court Justice Peter Bawden said in his ruling...

WestJet hikes checked bag fee for 2nd time in 2 years. Will Air Canada be next?

The fee increase follows the introduction of several new fees by airlines

WestJet has quietly hiked its first checked bag fee by $5 for ultra-basic and economy fares. It's the airline's second price hike for checked bags in less than two years and, if history repeats itself, Air Canada will soon follow suit. For WestJet tickets purchased on or after Sept. 16, prepaid first checked bag fees now start at $40 for economy passengers. Those who wait until check-in to pay will be charged at least $60.

Passengers flying WestJet's cheapest fare, ultra-basic, will shell out at least $50 to prepay for a checked bag for flights to most destinations...

  • Several new charges:
  • A fee to recline your seat?:
  • What about more competition?*

I reached my limit with flying passenger airlines when I was in my 70s; it was just too much red tape, and the security and waiting times were too much. I get enough of that at doctors' offices and waiting rooms, so small that they are saturated with other people's germs. My advice is that if you don't have to see a doctor, such as it's just a cold or ordinary flu, you're safer staying home. I don't like to sit or stand around for hours, and the prices are getting higher. I think that at 80, with my old legs, I'd sooner forget it. Anyway, I have too much pride and self-respect to go get insulted, degraded, by being probed, searched, and proded like I was a rag doll by some perverted security personnel.

Anyway, suppose I ever desire to go to Mexico. In that case, which someday I may, I'll hire a bush plane, and to be sure if America is still waving the swastika flag, I'll make sure my holding tank for the onboard bathroom is full to capacity before I leave, and it gets flushed completely, especially over the Whitehouse.

Have a Great Day, Everyone, at least the best day you can make out of a mess.

ELBOWS UP, STAY IN CANADA. There are many wondrous places to visit and explore right in your own backyard.
