Land of Whispering Pines🌲

Good morning! May the Great Spirit bless you 🙏

Well, I am here, and not feeling particularly bouncy today, but hey! I ain't complaining, I got no aches and pains in the butt, discomforts, and that's heaven. But let me share with you some of the news I came across while scrolling through my phone. Whether fake or genuine, it doesn't matter; both are carriers of gloom.

I don't like gloom; it reminds me of those dull grey winter clouds, day after day. YUK! 👅 Each day, the news is beginning to sound more like an unflushed toilet, 🚽 Hey Ma! Let's move away from LA, they say it's all a' slippin' away. Well, park the boat 🛶 in Idaho and make our way to James Bay in Ontario. America no longer needs our Canadian water. But Ma! Think about the fortune we could make a sellin' water wings, snorkels, and flippers down there!

TODAY'S DISCUSSION:

RESISTANCE

Would you join the resistance if stuck in an authoritarian regime? Here's the psychology

Most of us like to believe we would have opposed the rise of Nazism in 1930s Germany. We may even like to imagine that we would have bravely fought for the resistance to Nazism in the 1940s. But would we? Our ability to take a stand may be put to the test as authoritarianism is increasing worldwide.

All electoral democracies can transform into autocracies. These are governments that restrict political and civil rights, centralise executive power, manipulate elections, and minimise the diversity of political views.

  • Psychological profile:
  • Leadership characteristics:

Trump envoy headed to Egypt for ceasefire talks as 20 reported killed in Gaza

*What We're Covering*

Israel’s government and military are preparing for the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza ceasefire plan after Hamas said it has agreed to “immediately” enter negotiations for the release of all hostages.

Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law, will travel to Egypt this weekend for negotiations on details of the hostage release and other aspects of the proposal, according to two US officials.

The planned visit comes after Trump wrote on social media that he believed the militant group was “ready for a lasting PEACE” and called on Israel to stop its bombardment of Gaza in order to extract hostages.

Twenty people have been killed in Israeli strikes in Gaza over the past 12 hours, according to information from Gaza’s hospitals. Meanwhile, Hamas has stopped short of accepting Trump’s proposal unconditionally, with a finalized ceasefire deal far from certain...

Where things stand in Portland and Chicago as Trump officials promise imminent National Guard deployments

The Trump administration is pointing to renewed unrest in Chicago and Portland, Oregon, to justify an imminent deployment of federal troops to the two Democrat-led cities, seizing on new rounds of protests and the recent arrest of a conservative influencer.

“We’re sending in the Department of War … I put a request in today for them to come to Chicago,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told right-wing podcaster Benny Johnson Friday during a visit to Illinois, where another round of protests at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility led to more than a dozen arrests.

Federal troops would also be “rolling in” to Portland “within the next 24 hours,” the DHS secretary said, appearing to cite the arrest late Thursday of conservative influencer Nick Sortor as one of the justifications for federal intervention...

The boys of Robert Land

They say they were terrorized at the military-style academy. Years later, they learned some of their instructors were

To 15-year-old Ian Longfield, the man standing before him naked in the woods was someone he must obey. As the sun set, that man, Mark Boland, told Longfield and five other boys to strip, Longfield says. Confused, Longfield took off his clothes, even his underwear, standing on them to protect his feet from the frozen ground.

It was a cold spring in 1996 and Longfield was a student at Robert Land Academy — Canada’s only military-style, all-boys private boarding school — in Ontario’s Niagara Region. He was on a month-long road trip out west, led by Boland.

That evening at a campsite somewhere near Calgary, Boland instructed the boys to pick up handfuls of snow and rub it across their skin — bitingly cold on their arms, legs and genitals. Longfield says he reluctantly did as he was told, feeling exploited and vulnerable as Boland watched. “I’d never seen a staff member naked before and it didn’t seem right,” Longfield said in a recent interview...

Energy Minister Tim Hodgson is brushing off questions over whether the Liberal government will repeal the tanker ban in B.C.'s northern waters, calling them "hypothetical" since Alberta has not formally submitted a pipeline proposal for consideration.

Speaking to reporters Friday afternoon in Montreal, Hodgson addressed Alberta's announcement that it plans to pitch a new bitumen pipeline to the northern coast of B.C. — a move that drew a sharp rebuke from B.C. Countless industries in Canada were stung when the trade war with the United States began earlier this year after U.S. President Donald Trump took office, but new life has been poured into one particular business.

Thanks in large part to the patriotic "Buy Canadian" movement, which has changed consumer habits and reshaped parts of the retail landscape, winemakers across the country say they're enjoying a rare and fruitful moment.

Good morning! May the Great Spirit bless you 🙏

Again, I'm a little later than usual, just doing a bit of cleaning and picking up, that sort of thing, as I made my way to the kitchen to put some coffee on. Then I went out to sit in my Green Space and just let my mind... hmm, space out. I guess that's what we used to call it. Now here I am at the kitchen table with my coffee and laptop, getting ready to begin my preach of the day. Partner is up now, and we're both sitting at the kitchen table with the sun streaming in from the sliding glass doors. I love the brilliance, warmth, silence, and peace of early morning... life and living.*_

_*Just feeling alive, that inner glow is precious. It is even greater than the magic of any bejeweled princess in a lovely gown at a ball in a fantasy movie. Sparkly, crystal castle in the clouds, with a vault the size of Mt. Everest filled with gold and jewels, that type of dream come true? This morning, I feel like I have that inner glow, that part of it, and I pray that I still feel that way by the end of the day, living one day at a time. Didn't you know that one brick at a time, you can build your own castle? Better think about that. Perhaps you have already built that castle, possibly several times over in your lifetime. Sometimes the most significant rewards are all the little ones bagged in one bag, the bricks of your castle.

Carney to return to Washington as Trump's tariffs hit sectors hard

Prime minister facing pressure from opposition to land a win

The prime minister is expected to visit the White House on Tuesday to meet face-to-face with U.S. President Donald Trump after he publicly brought up his 51st state idea again and tariffs continue to pummel some Canadian industries.

Mark Carney's office said he will travel to Washington on Monday ahead of talks.

"The Prime Minister's working visit will focus on shared priorities in a new economic and security relationship between Canada and the U.S.," the prime minister's office said in a statement. t's been more than two months since Canada and the U.S. blew past a deadline they jointly agreed on to reach a trade deal. Carney rescinded a tax on big U.S. technology firms at Trump's request and dropped retaliatory tariffs to try and advance talks.

Meet Costco's newest shoppers — young people on the hunt for deals and trending products

Wholesaler says nearly half of new member signups now come from people under age 40

Karen Kuo started shopping at Costco while studying at Western University. She and her roommates made it a monthly trip — they'd go together, hunting for bulk deals and popular items they'd seen on social media. And they weren't alone. Kuo says the aisles were filled with other students, carts overloaded with stuff. As a content creator, Kuo posts lifestyle content, including some of her trips to Costco, where she says the comments are always flooded with younger people interested in the latest new product or holy grail snack at the wholesale shopping centre.

"Grocery shopping is just a very standard part of a weekly routine, but Costco has the ability to kind of make it fun and make it interesting," Kuo said...

  • On the hunt for bulk deals;
  • Costco's cult following:

Costco's ability to stock items consumers want because of online buzz has contributed to the store having a "cult following" of sorts, Patterson says — no small feat, given it comes at a time when retailers like Nordstrom and Hudson's Bay have either pulled out of Canada or closed altogether.

Land of Whispering Pines 🌲

Good morning! May the Great Spirit bless you 🙏

Today will be an OPPEN MIKE DAY

DISCUSSION: All Topics;

Ya know, like Karaoke without the music.

Well, it's a beautiful sunny morning once more here at the Tree House. I am finally sitting behind my laptop, winding up for the Newsroom morning report with coffee in hand, as I serenely look out at my green space. With a sip of my coffee, I am a' thinkin' how much my taste buds for things have improved lately. I haven't had sore teeth for the past couple of days, either; it may be related to that. Anyway, I will be seeing the dentist on October 8, 2025. I'm going to get abducted by aliens, 👽🛸😮, and "no one will ever see me again!"

Meanwhile, on planet Scrapoid in the Delta Quadrant, Sector 22 of Stargate Region 16, in the Velexor Galaxies, there are only three planets to the left of the Star of Pus Bags, just past the third Pus Bag planet. The entire voyage to the Alpha Quadrent, to the third rocky planet of the star Sol, takes 3 days, 4 minutes, and 36 seconds. The Planet, Tera Firma, shows a strong possibility of supporting live petri dish specimens. Species X 2-11 have reached the critical point; will they evolve beyond this point? Or will a Brigade of Dunces hit the repeat button again?

Many are not far removed from having evolved past the amoeba stage in that imaginary petri dish, Eh! Or maybe closer to actual than we think. Anyway, it won't be hard for those on the lower rung of evolution to go back; they were always reluctant to leave the petri dish in the first place.

As I see it from the major observatory, Starship Android model X 3 of 2 is the commander from planet SX-32 of 46 and a 1/2. You know! The Borg Species. They're OK once they get to know you.

PRAYER FOR THE DAY:

Or is there hope? Will most humanoid species develop a soul and complete the evolutionary process? Thank you, Buddha, Manitou,

G-d, Allah, Creator, Universe, Great Spirit; AMEN!

Land of Whispering Pines 🌲

Good morning! May the Great Spirit bless you 🙏

It is another beautiful day here in the Land Of The Rising Sun. 🌄

Well, here I am again at my work station at the kitchen table, looking out onto my Green Space. The nice thing about my green space is that it remains green all year round, thanks to artificial plants, which I intentionally use, allowing me to see some green during the dull winter months. I prefer not to spend too much time dwelling on the thought of winter. For as long as we get reasonably nice weather, I will live each, one day at a time.

TODAY'S DISCUSSION:

How Fast Can a Tree Fall?

How fast does a tree fall in the forest? Does the size make a difference?

Does it matter if you predict that it would not fall for a hundred more years? But then even great and mighty trees grow old and gnarly and will fall sometimes. The Point is that the tree fell and it landed on my roof. It's a good thing it's only an imaginary roof. You will never know, anyway, unless you're in the forest observing the tree fall.

- Google Search -

A tree doesn't have a set falling speed, but its tip velocity can be as high as ~1.41√(h), where 'h' is the height of the tree. This is a calculation for free-fall objects and doesn't account for wind resistance, root strength, or the complex way trees fail. Trees typically fall due to high winds, and the speed at which they begin to fall can range from 55-63 mph, with widespread failure occurring at higher speeds.

I believe Trumpo is the wind, creating his own tornadoes and hurricanes of self-destruction by creating a tremendous tidal wave or tsunami of human emotions, confusion, anger, and hate.

I have been the publisher of the TREE HOUSE NEWS for about 2 years on Facebook. In the past year, I have extended it to five different Social Networks, just me, my partner editor, and my Imaginary friend Bobby McGee, the screenwriter. I noticed last night that the ratings on my daily news report, *views* were as weird as what Trumpo's must have been last night after his speech to the high-ranking individuals of the armed forces, General and flag rank officers, and their enlisted assistance, who did their best to remain silent and emotionless while sitting around listening to Trumpo's GOBLE-DE GOOP "DROOL!" GOO-GOO KA-KA IN DIAPER speech.

I guess Trumpo's Dunce Brigade is going to be busy trying to stick that one on the Democrats. How often can they get away successfully blaming the democrats for Trumpo's 💩 diaper? I guess for as long as Trumpo has the Supreme Court in his back pocket, but then, that's a different colored horse to talk about later. I know, because Whistle Butt, my imaginary Hossy, told me, and she has more horse sense than Trumpo's and his entire Dunce Brigade can ever dream of having.*_

So the motto of this conversation, as well as the 🙏 prayer for the day. 🙏 It doesn't matter how big the tree grows, or whether it was beneficial or not; good or bad trees, both great and not-so-great trees, they will both fall sometimes. I pray to the Great Spirit to dispel the bad one, or as they say today, to disappear them. AMEN!

The US economy lost 32,000 private-sector jobs in September

Private payrolls plunged in September, complicating the picture for the US economy as policymakers and investors struggle to assess the state of the labor market amid a government shutdown.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics is unlikely to release the monthly jobs report this Friday due to the closure. That means many flying blind without critical economic data are having to key into any information they can get, including Wednesday’s private sector jobs data from payroll company ADP.

US private-sector businesses lost 32,000 jobs in September, according to the report. August’s previously estimated 54,000 payroll gains were downwardly revised to negative 3,000. Small private-sector businesses drove last month’s decline, and losses were widespread across industries (with some of the largest losses being in professional and business services and leisure and hospitality), ADP reported. The bulk of the hiring occurred at health care businesses...

Both reviled and admired, former U.K. PM Tony Blair is poised to play a key role in Gaza

Detractors derided him for waging war against Iraq but supporters praised him as peacemaker

More than a quarter century ago, a youthful Tony Blair was the unlikely peacemaker who defied long odds by bringing apparently irreconcilable opponents together in a grand bargain. Back in 1998 and elected Britain's prime minister only a year earlier, the 43-year-old Labour Party leader thrust his energies into resolving the conflict in Northern Ireland that had divided Catholics and Protestants — often violently — for seven decades.

The result, thanks in large measure to American mediation, was the Good Friday Agreement that among other things changed the constitutional relationship between Northern Ireland and Westminster by devolving powers, thereby bringing "the Troubles" to an end...

Land of Whispering Pines 🌲

Good morning! May the Great Spirit bless you 🙏

Good morning? Or Eh, I think I'll crawl back under my rock. "I'm an earthworm, see!" I suppose one's perspective on the day largely depends on one's perception of what they feel about this day at this particular time. Don't forget, time moves on; it doesn't wait for you to catch up. What you decided to do a minute ago, you have already done in this moment. So that tells me we are only in control of the present moment. Whatever we choose to do now will be etched on the fabric of time and space one minute behind you, as all the other moments and millennia behind that moment.

TODAY'S DISCUSSION:

LITTLE VOICE:

You can only look back on it from the present moment; by now, you are either smiling because you got it right, or you're crying in your beer because you bet on the wrong horse. The trick is to follow your instincts, trust your gut feeling, which is the inner voice speaking to you. TRUST THE LITTLE VOICE! 👼 The Id, 👶 your little voice, will help you make the right decision, one minute at a time, one day at a time. We only have control of this one day. "Stand by for heavy rolls, as the ship comes about!" "Don't just twitch in your clothes, move! Like, step aside for the bus, please!" 🚌

I do have a dumb hospital appointment for a CT scan. IT'S THE BEST PLACE TO COLLECT BUGS. I usually don't get sick until I go into one of those places, cockroach! They should have more CT scan machines in clinics, not just hospitals. However, you then need technicians and more doctors to operate the machines, and this stubborn government is steadfastly clinging to old, outdated red tape and rules from the past, when wooden ships were the norm; they are preventing or discouraging new technicians and doctors from coming to Canada.

DEAR GOVERNMENT OF CANADA, do you, arse picks, think the public is a bunch of dumb dumbs like Trumpo's Dunce Brigade? If we don't begin to get things in gear and not just windbag it, we will lose. Poilievre is right for once. Slowly and inexorably, I see Canada hanging over the precipice of Trumpitis and his Dunce Brigade infiltrating our freedom and rights as Canadians. So at this point, I will say adieu. Having a clock hanging on the end of my neck like an albatross, I could never concentrate on anything else outside of worrying about running out of time. For me, to do work that requires concentration, I need to put all the clocks in my imaginary drawer out of sight.*_

I will be signing off for now. I will return at a later time, permitting, with the latest on the Breaking News.
