Hey there! Well, the sun ain't a' shinin' too well this morning ☁️ It's much cooler but still warm, a humid warm. It was nice to sit out at my patio table with my coffee. I relaxed, listened to the birds singing, and admired the beautiful, healthy, lush green on the trees. It's easy to let the mind go where it will out here in my Green Space; it feels like there are no restrictions as to how far or deep one can go in thought out here in my nest/apartment, fifth-floor Tree House.

There is nothing in the laws of physics that says we have to be stuck in this one reality; this is only one reality out of many potentials. Choose one card. That is your choice. Use your heart's intuition as well as experience and wisdom before choosing from the infinite deck of cards that is this universe as we know it, and follow and learn the pattern of galactic evolution

There is always one potential among an infinite number of possibilities that will work; choose one, but choose well. Since you are dealing with the unknown, you are taking a gamble, a wrong choice, and you may find yourself careening over the precipice on your bicycle straight down into that live volcano, Hell itself! Who knows what's in the not-yet-known, where time and space become irrelevant? Don't believe me? Then I dare you to ride on your bicycle around that volcano without falling off the precipice. Come back and tell me about it and a video, and I'll give you A *Hero-Tin-Badge-Award of the year.

America celebrates its 250th birthday

Sweltering heat is impacting events in the nation's capital and major US cities. Trump is expected to give remarks tonight to crowds gathered in Washington, DC.

What To Know Today

America 250: Fourth of July celebrations are taking place across the nation as the United States turns 250. Weeks of events in Washington, DC, will culminate this evening in an extravagant fireworks show and an address from President Donald Trump.

Weather updates: We’re in the final stretch of one of the most intense eastern US heat waves in years, which could fuel an added storm threat. A parade in the nation’s capital was canceled this morning due to extreme heat and the Great American State Fair is opening two hours late at noon ET. Other major cities are expanding cooling centers, shortening parade routes and taking additional precautions.

Complicated backdrop: Trump has unmistakably put his mark on America 250 festivities and billed his rally on the National Mall as an “unforgettable birthday party.” But the holiday comes with mixed feelings for many Americans facing stubborn cost-of-living issues, the war with Iran and a polarizing presidency...

I want America to go back to being the country I fought for

I don’t think the average U.S. citizen appreciates the sheer luck involved in the founding of our nation. But we can’t count on luck to get us back to where we need to be. We need a renewed commitment to the American idea.

This piece is part of “America in the balance: The fight for our history and future,” a special series from MS NOW that explores where we are as a nation as we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

When I flew over countries like Iraq and the former Yugoslavia as a Marine Corps F/A-18 pilot, I often wondered how they came to be ruled by authoritarians. During our conflicts with those countries, I read every book I could to help me understand the culture, history and more recent events that led up to the U.S. military darkening their skies.

I spent 20 years of my life as a Marine Corp fighter pilot, and I savored every minute of my time wearing my nation’s uniform. The memories of my service still fill me with pride...

Feeling sticker shock over Canadian beef? Here's why — and what's being done about it

Experts report steep supply-and-demand challenge, interprovincial barriers

If you've stocked up at a grocery store for a barbecue lately, you've probably experienced sticker shock when it comes to the price of beef.

According to Statistics Canada, the price of fresh or frozen beef has gone up almost 13 percent since May of last year. In contrast, fresh or frozen pork and fresh or frozen chicken went up 3 per cent and 1.8 per cent, respectively. For meat and cattle market analyst Kevin Grier, the ongoing growth defies expectations.

Alberta’s pipeline pitch is heavy on public, light on private investment — so who benefits?

'Spillover' growth could help more than the energy industry, says economist

Alberta’s latest attempt to get a new oil pipeline approved has both the federal and provincial governments promising heavy public investment to move heavy crude oil, all in search of heavy economic benefits.

And despite a price tag that may only begin at more than $35 billion, government money may be both a worthwhile and necessary investment, say economists and industry analysts.

While technically the proposed pipeline to the southwest coast of B.C. is a public-private partnership, only 10 per cent will be in the hands of Calgary-based Pembina Pipeline Corporation...

Canada wants to build up to 10 new nuclear plants. Will our pension funds pay for them?

Massive private investment needed for ambitious, expensive nuclear strategy.

When Tim Hodgson, Canada’s natural resources minister, announced the federal government’s plan to dramatically expand the nuclear energy industry, he cited a project in the U.K. as a model. That plant, Sizewell C on the Suffolk coast of England, is set to cost 38.2 billion pounds ($72.3 billion Cdn). But a key detail is that private investors are taking a 55 per cent stake in the project by sharing the construction costs.

Hodgson wants to emulate that model to achieve his government's lofty target of building up to 10 new reactors in Canada. The prospect isn't far-fetched: one of Sizewell C’s investors is La Caisse, the public pension fund of Quebec, which has taken a 20 per cent stake in the reactor through an investment of $3.2 billion Cdn...

US Heatwave Disrupts 250th Independence Day Celebrations: July 4 Parade Cancelled | FP Video

Jul 4, 2026

Brutal heat has disrupted 250th Independence Day celebrations across the United States, with temperatures forecast to reach as high as 46°C in some areas. Authorities and event organisers cancelled or delayed several Fourth of July events, including parades and outdoor gatherings, citing public safety concerns. Washington, DC,

Philadelphia, and several other cities were forced to scale back celebrations as the heatwave intensified. Donald Trump's flagship 'Great American State Fair' was also temporarily shut after reports of heat-related illnesses. Forecasters warn that the dangerous combination of extreme heat and high humidity is expected to persist through the weekend.

Great Spirit bless πŸ™

It's a great morning at the Tree House! Other than the threat of severe thunderstorms sometime this afternoon, it is a sunny and peaceful morning out there, with the early-rising sun, singing birds, and the lush green trees against a purply blue sky. Spiritual? To me, it is.

As for storms, I pray everyone is safe and prepared, especially if you live in a watershed area. May you be able to get to high ground and rent a motel room, etc., for the night away from home. And if you can't because of a rapidly worsening storm, take shelter in any windowless room, hallway, or bathtub if there is nowhere else to go. I can't remember how many stories I've heard on the news of people miraculously surviving hurricanes or twisters in a bathtub. Just Google it.

Is a bathtub safe during a tornado?

Question: Can you really ride out and survive a tornado by sheltering in your bathtub?

• 1 Yes, and this technique has saved many people.

• 2 Or find a room in the middle of your home, away from outside walls.

• 3 Or an enclosed area like a closet or windowless room on the opposite side of the house and lie low, away from the tornado's path if you know the direction it's coming from.<- in my own words.

If you have solar batteries, make certain they are fully charged.

Check your water and food supplies. We have a water cooler, so we usually have three or four five-gallon plastic water jugs full of clean, filtered water around. If you still have city water service, outside contact via cell phone and a WiFi hotspot, then you've got it made in the shade, Jake. The Achilles' heel in my home is if the windows get shattered. I pray a storm wind isn't directly from the south. Other than that, I just sit still till they repair whatever damage is out there and turn the power back on. Weapons? No firearms, but a few household items can be turned into weapons. I'm thinking about buying a small crossbow.

I'm a SURVIVALIST from the Cuban Crisis.

Tricorn hats or Trump rally? Americans have July Fourth options

The United States is celebrating a jubilee: July Fourth is the 250th anniversary, or semiquincentennial, of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the foundational document for Western democracy.

Donald Trump, more than any president in the centuries since then, challenges some of the basic ideas of the document, which was written as list of complaints against the king of England.

‘It’s going to be a disaster’: Concerns mount about Trump’s supersized July Fourth

"HA, ha, ha!" Trumpo the Typo is a Disaster on Legs! - πŸ’₯🦡- signed, me.

Experts warn a record-breaking display and 100-degree heat could trap toxic smoke over Washington. It’s one of several problems shadowing a celebration the president has hyped.

Temperatures near 100 degrees, a massive security apparatus and potentially dangerous plumes of smoke from a record-breaking fireworks display are escalating concerns around the July Fourth celebration on the National Mall — an event that President Donald Trump has already politicized as “the most spectacular TRUMP RALLY of them all.”

With Saturday’s celebration days away, the production company building out the physical apparatus for the country’s marquee 250th anniversary event was still actively recruiting professional help for crowd management assistance on Wednesday, according to a person familiar with the company’s planning, who, like others interviewed for this piece, was granted anonymity to address a topic they were not authorized to speak about.

Multiple sources familiar with the production of the event expressed concern to MS NOW that the same organizers behind The Great American State Fair, which has drawn markedly small crowds, are also producing the July Fourth celebration, an event that happens annually but usually without the security measures required because of the president’s attendance...

Emotional victim impact statements read at sentencing for Ontario couple in boy's murder, brother's torture

Prospective parents Becky Hamber, Brandy Cooney in Milton court for hearing

The Latest:

The sentencing hearing for Becky Hamber, 47, and Brandy Cooney, 45, who’d been trying to adopt the two brothers, is underway in Milton, Ont.

• Several people, some through tears, are reading victim impact statements.

In May, Superior Court Justice found the Burlington couple guilty of first-degree murder of the 12-year-old, and confining and assaulting his younger brother. The identities of L.L. and J.L. are protected under a publication ban.

Superior Court Justice Clayton Conlan determined Hamber and Cooney confined L.L. in a "dungeon-like bedroom.” He was severely malnourished when he died on Dec. 21, 2022. J.L. testified about how the boys were also made to wear wetsuits.

A first-degree murder conviction carries an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years.

• Warning: Court proceedings detailed alleged child abuse, and referenced self-harm and suicide.

Canadians across the country suffering through different forms of extreme weather

Zoom in on nearly any part of Canada this summer and you're likely to find people suffering from various forms of extreme weather. Intense storms in Western Canada have caused severe flooding, particularly in Manitoba. Well, at least we know we made it to another day and the world is still in one piece, so we should be grateful that we, the people of Canada, are still free souls to make our own choices. I just pray we all make the right choice when the time arrives.

SYSTEM BUSTERS:

Question: Who are those who seek to bust the system, calling themselves the system busters

πŸ”ΉAI Overview

"System busters" typically refer to individuals or groups who actively challenge, resist, or dismantle established institutions and societal norms. The exact identity of who uses this label depends on the context:

• Counter-Cultural Rebels & Free Thinkers: Bloggers and cultural commentators use the term to describe free thinkers or anti-establishment rebels who reject rigid societal or educational systems in favor of self-education and individualism.

• Youth & Social Services: In social work and residential child care, "system busters" (often called "system breakers") is a term used for troubled youth or adolescents whose extreme behaviors cause them to "bust" or repeatedly disrupt the structured systems and group homes they are placed in.

• Business Operations: In the corporate world, the term is used in contrast to describe errors, bottlenecks, or employees who consistently break Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Business experts, such as Philip Beyer in his book System Busters: How to Stop Them in Your Business, use the phrase to highlight the chaotic elements or staff that ruin sustainable business operations.

Depending on whether the context is social reform, youth psychology, or business management, the "system" being busted and the people doing the busting represent entirely different philosophies.

US job growth slowed more than expected in June

The US economy added far fewer jobs than expected last month, with just 57,000 added in June, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data released Thursday. June’s tally is a cooldown from May’s gains of 129,000 jobs and came in well below economists’ expectations for 100,000 jobs to be added.

The unemployment rate dropped to 4.2% from 4.3%. Thursday’s report showed that leisure and hospitality businesses shed 61,000 jobs last month, reflecting weaker-than-usual seasonal hiring, the BLS noted in the report.

That sector — which is closely watched as a gauge for consumer health, since it can be tied to discretionary spending — was expected to be a wild card:...

Hi everyone, it's another brilliantly sunny day here, a little on the humid side. Might have to turn on the A/C when the sun is higher and begins heating the building's exterior. With the drapes down and our apartment-sized AC, it does quite well keeping a comfortable temperature. Uses a lot less hydro than the large ones and no water dripping like those large A/C window hogs that leave water all over the balcony! Blue mold! NEH!

Now, if I could jury-rig some apparatus to collect and distribute the A/C water to the outside plants. That would be a good invention, but A/C water kills plants πŸͺΎ 🀨 I have seen myself at the homestead, back in the seventies; one time it got so hot I made a makeshift air conditioner. First, you need a freezer to keep making ice cubes to fill the bucket, and then I used a fan to blow on the bucket. It worked, but you had to sit close to it. Give me some tools, and I still like inventing makeshift stuff.

President Donald Trump has billed his July Fourth rally on the National Mall as a culmination of the “most unforgettable birthday party any country has ever seen.” But inside his White House, there’s growing angst over how many people will actually show up to celebrate.

The lackluster attendance for Trump’s speech on the mall last week — a fact that has infuriated the president behind the scenes — has sparked fears of a similarly disappointing turnout when he headlines an Independence Day celebration, sources familiar with the matter told CNN. He has teased the event as one of the most consequential moments of his presidency.

The high-profile address follows days of scattered crowds and setbacks at the “Great American State Fair” that’s taken over the iconic two-mile stretch of downtown Washington, DC. And with tightened security measures, triple-digit heat and a schedule set to run well into Saturday night, White House officials are already bracing for an underwhelming showing.

The authoritarian power play happening at the Supreme Court

While many view decisions simply as wins or losses for the president, a broader trend has taken hold, with the justices appropriating power to the court.

While many are tracking Supreme Court rulings as wins or losses for President Donald Trump, what they should be watching is a broader and more disturbing trend: For several years, and at an accelerating pace this term, the Supreme Court has been seizing power for itself — from the lower courts, from Congress and from the voters. Whichever way it rules for Trump, the court always rules for itself. The Supreme Court, the one branch of government that can’t be voted out, answerable to no one, is making itself the branch that rules all others.

This is Supreme Court authoritarianism, built to outlast any president.

Start with the ruling on birthright citizenship. When Trump loses (though barely; three justices were ready to deny citizenship to children born on U.S. soil) most court-watchers exhale — and miss the danger already taking hold: a high court wresting power from the courts beneath it and the supposedly co-equal branches beside it...

America was not just a sudden Nazi takeover. It's been progressing in America for many years. Now that it is Nazi, it is rapidly on its way to achieving the status of a third-world country and entering the Pirates Den level. A nuclear wasteland from exploding nuclear plants because there's no one qualified around to maintain them, among other catastrophes, which will quickly turn America into a Thunderdome setting, as it turns itself inside out to be even more brutal and Nazi than Hitler's Third Reich was. Russia, one of the world's biggest oil exporters, moves to import fuel as drone strikes squeeze supply

Fuel restrictions have been reported in dozens of Russian regions

As video flooded social media platforms over the weekend showing long lines at Russian gas stations — and even fights breaking out in parking lots among frustrated drivers — President Vladimir Putin tried to calm concerns on Sunday and quell panic-buying by insisting that shortages triggered by weeks of Ukrainian strikes weren't critical.

But the steps the Russian government is taking reveal the depth of the crisis. It has already banned exports of gasoline and jet fuel, and on Tuesday, the Kremlin confirmed it is looking at importing oil products from other countries. "If agreements can be reached at acceptable price points, then [imports] will move forward," said Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, in a call with journalists.

"This will be another step toward stabilizing the market."

"A dangerous bluff": Carney warns that Alberta separation would bring "years of uncertainty"

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney held a wide-ranging news conference in Ottawa Thursday to mark the end of the parliamentary sitting that wrapped up last week, and answered a question about the Alberta separation referendum.

"Canada is worth fighting for. Stand up and be counted, that we are stronger together," he said, adding that the Alberta separation referendum is a "real referendum" and "a dangerous bluff."

Taking from the Brexit experience, he said that the world "saw firsthand what happens, what gets sold in these referendums; that everything's going to be easy," but "at the very minimum it's years of uncertainty."
