What happened to the $30 billion the Trudeau government gave the ontario gov for health care? If we have all that money coming in, why are we still short of doctors and closing clinics and small hospitals?

In February 2024 Canada-Ontario Agreement to Work Together to Improve Health Care for Canadian

Based on recent reports and budget documents, the federal government did not provide a single $30 billion lump sum, but rather entered into long-term, multi-year bilateral agreements (part of a broader $200 billion plan) intended for specific health priorities, including tackling staffing shortages and expanding primary care.

Despite these investments, Ontario is still experiencing shortages and closures due to a combination of high population growth, rapid inflation, and, according to a 2025 Financial Accountability Office (FAO) report, a provincial spending plan that falls significantly short of what is needed to maintain existing service levels.

Here is a breakdown of what has happened to the funding and why shortages persist:

Where Did the Money Go?:

Targeted Bilateral Agreements:The 2023–24 to 2025–26 agreement included $2.5 billion in annual funding (totaling $7.5 billion over 3 years) specifically for expanding family health services, supporting health workers, reducing backlogs, and upgrading digital tools.

Hospital Operating Funds: The province announced a 4% increase in total base hospital funding for the 2024–25 and 2025–26 fiscal years, including $965 million in 2024–25 to help manage surgical backlogs and emergency department pressures.

Primary Care Expansion: The 2024–25 budget allocated $546 million over three years to expand team-based primary care, aiming to connect 600,000 people to care.

Bill 124 Retroactive Pay: A significant portion of recent spending was used for retroactive wage payments to healthcare workers following the court ruling that Bill 124 (which capped wage increases at 1%) was unconstitutional.

Why Are Shortages and Closures Still Happening?

Funding Below Necessary Levels: The FAO reported that for 2025–26, the provincial budget is $3.4 billion below the amount needed to maintain existing service levels, a shortfall expected to grow to $9.6 billion by 2027–28.

Unprecedented Population Growth: Ontario’s population is growing faster than the healthcare system can expand, increasing demand for doctors and hospital beds.

High Inflation: Inflation has reduced the purchasing power of the money being invested, making it harder to hire staff, pay for equipment, and maintain, according to reports.

Staffing Shortages: Despite investments, there is still a shortage of nurses and doctors, with the FAO projecting a potential decrease in provincially funded nurses by 2027-28 if spending trends continue.

Hospital Budget Deficits: Many Ontario hospitals are in deficit, forced to use operating funds for capital equipment and reducing services, according to the Ontario Hospital Association.

Summary of Future Outlook

The 2025 Ontario budget projects health sector spending to grow at a much slower rate (0.7% average annually) than in previous years. A little slow getting up this morning, turning on all the LED lights on, while making my way to the kitchen. I put on the coffee, put away the clean dishes from the dishwasher, and then sat for a while scrolling through my phone while the coffee brewed. Not daylight yet; went out to my Green Space to sweep the snow out. I don't like my Green Space in white.

My mind immediately went back to the Legends of the Old West, when the gun was the law. Sad to say, but maybe that's the only thing that'll bring back sanity in America. I wish and pray that all the perpetrators of all this evil unleashed upon the people soon find their well-deserved Karma, whatever Karma the BIG BOSS has in store for them. Arizona's Attorney General Kris Mayes has wildly suggested that residents can open fire on masked ICE agents if they feel their life is in danger, citing the state's self-defense laws. But the Democrat's jaw-dropping comments have sparked outrage from critics who fear her words could incite violence against federal officers.

I do not agree with guns and shootouts, but once it comes to self-defence and survival, I can only suggest being ready for action at any time, and always being stocked up with supplies at home, in case of a siege, or being blacked out, or stormed out. Then just be alert and ready to use those survival skills, whether in war, nature, amid climate change-driven freak calamities and destruction, or any man-made disaster.

During a sit-down with 12 News anchor Brahm Resnik, Mayes warned that Arizona's "Stand Your Ground" law, which allows citizens to use deadly force if they believe they're in imminent danger, could become a "recipe for disaster" if protesters clash with immigration officers. She said, "It's kind of a recipe for disaster because you have these masked federal officers with very little identification, sometimes no identification, wearing plain clothes and masks," calling ICE "very poorly trained."

Mayes's comments have been met with a fierce backlash, with critics accusing her of giving residents a "license" to shoot federal agents. A flabbergasted Resnik repeatedly challenged Mayes, cautioning that her remarks could be interpreted as encouraging violence. However, the state's top prosecutor shot back, insisting she was merely stating a "fact" and not inciting violence. It comes after an ICE agent made a chilling 3-word order before shooting a woman five times...

I pray that each day you awaken, that today will be a better day than yesterday. Well, here I am, sitting behind my system, in what I call my tiny little Newsroom, looking out the window. Still so dark out. I like it when it's daylight in the early morning. Oh well, that's not too far off now. The days are about 45 minutes longer; that's about 22 minutes added at each end, morning and evening. TIME! Time seems to be speeding up: I wake up, it's Monday, next thing I know, it's Friday. But I guess that's the price I pay for having a busy mind. I was just thinking about where all of this is going. I mean, the way our world is going.

It's kind of scary to think about what tomorrow will bring. I find it less stressful these days to live one day at a time, live for today, and do my best to keep my personal world in order, day by day. I can't make order out of chaos, only the CREATOR can do that, and He did! REMEMBER, Creator THOUGHT this entire universe and everything in and outside of it before the Big Bang.

When this man-made system ends, it will be like pulling the plug, and the system will stop spinning while making a noise like a drowning elephant. I don't think so. I believe humanity has taken a significant setback. The system, as we know it, will fail. The Phoenix arises, 🐦‍🔥 e.g., The New Bank - THE INTERNATIONAL WORLD BANK 🌏 All democratic countries joined together in commerce, as Prime Minister Carney did with the Canadian Provinces.

I had a wee problem with the stomach this morning, took some antacid, and sat for a while scrolling through my phone. Everything seems under control for now, and I do pray sincerely to G-d that I don't get a return of that awful ravaging torture of the stomach as I had before, please spare me, Lord, 🙏 ! I believe getting gut shot in a foxhole on the battlefield or crucified on the cross could not have been worse for the level of pain I suffered, no word of a lie or exaggeration. It was pure HELL for almost three months.

I lost 14 lbs. My average weight should be 120 to 125 lbs. I am now at 112 lbs. I gained a pound. 😳 Too soon to tell yet if that's a trend going back up. Getting my upper denture will help me to get more protein into my diet. That was just too many catastrophic failures; I can't afford to go through more.

So, what should we discuss today? I thought I had the best hot topic of the week on yesterday's news, but I got fewer views than I usually do, so I guess I flunked at getting anyone's attention on that one. I know everyone is getting sick of hearing about Trumpo The Typo every day. Even his followers, I see, have dropped in the social networks, and I am a member of five major platforms. I tried for more, but five is about all one person can handle reporting the news. I do this alone, volunteering my time to inform the people. There are only the two of us, my partner and I; I do Publishing, she does the Editing.

I began Cindy's OPEN HOUSE BLOG Blogspot, science, fantasy, -fantasy reality's child- Try explaining that one to the average person. Legends, history, science, and spirituality. I don't recall exactly how long ago, about 20 years ago. I also opened a Facebook group around the same time, Cindy's Open House Blog, then changed it to Good Morning From The Tree House.

U.S. President Donald Trump claimed Wednesday Canada owes its continued existence to the United States while calling out Prime Minister Mark Carney for delivering a speech that condemned coercion by great powers. Speaking in Davos, Switzerland, where he made the case for a U.S. acquisition of Greenland, Trump said he needs the Danish territory for his proposed "golden dome," a missile defence system that could cover North America.

Trump said the dome will protect Canada due to geography and the country isn't grateful enough that such a system is in the works. Carney has been non-committal in the past about Canada participating in or paying for what Trump is floating.
