These moms had daughters sucked into a deadly online school shooter community. What they need you to know

Jaimee Seitz loved to make crafts for her daughter, Audree Heine. So when Audree asked for customized T-shirts, Seitz got out her supplies and went to work. She didn’t recognize the slogans Audree wanted — one shirt was supposed to say “Natural Selection” and the other “Wrath” — and thought it must be slang she didn’t know.

It was only after the death by suicide of Audree, a 13-year-old who did well in school and who loved Eminem, Olivia Rodrigo and dirt bikes, that her mother learned the significance. “Natural Selection” and “Wrath” were on the shirts worn by Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold when they killed 13 people and then themselves at Columbine High School in April 1999...

Trump’s white supremacy refugee policy is in full effect

The administration is letting in only a handful of refugees this year. More than half are from South Africa, in line with Trump’s false claims of an Afrikaner “genocide.”

VIDEO | Included:

The United States once prided itself on being the final destination of people around the world seeking refuge from war and strife. The State Department reports that America has welcomed a total of more than 3.1 million refugees to its shores since the U.S. refugee program was established in 1980.

But President Donald Trump has decimated the number of applicants who were granted refugee status — and those who made it through are overwhelmingly the beneficiaries of an insidious shift in policy to favor white South Africans...

  • Of the 4,999 refugees admitted, 4,496 were from South Africa; the remaining three newcomers were from Afghanistan:

Judge orders pause on signature validation process for Alberta independence petition

Court issues month-long stay pending judicial review

A judge has granted a month-long stay preventing Alberta’s chief electoral officer from certifying the results of a petition to force a referendum on a proposal for Alberta to separate from Canada. Justice Shaina Leonard’s ruling on Friday afternoon also prevents Stay Free Alberta, the group behind the petition, from referring the matter to Justice Minister Mickey Amery once signatures are submitted.

The decision follows an application from two of three First Nations groups who say they believe the petition process threatens treaty rights. The Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation (ACFN) and the Blackfoot Confederacy have been seeking a stay on the petition campaign pending a final ruling...

WATCH | Judge issues ruling on Alberta separation petition case:

First Nations' court challenge may block Alberta separatism itself, not just *petition drive

Argument that a province leaving country severs Indigenous treaties may affect Quebec, too

The argument First Nations groups made this week in an Edmonton courthouse wasn’t only aiming to block Alberta separatists’ petition drive toward a referendum, even if that was the specific, narrow goal of an injunction and a related hearing. Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation and other litigants are challenging the very idea that a province can split from Canada, and in doing so sever their constitutionally protected First Nations treaties.

Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation (ACFN) is centred in northeast Alberta, but its ancestors followed caribou throughout what’s now Saskatchewan and Northwest Territories — and members today freely cross those boundaries to hunt, fish and trap, lawyer Kevin Hille told the court this week.

“Any constraint on those activities by an international border would violate those [rights],” Hille said...

I see the sunrise πŸŒ„, but it's already getting overcast 🌫️ with grey clouds. The forecast today is calling for cloudy and 41° F. That's pathetic, it's still like March weather out there πŸ˜– Tomorrow sounds more promising, 50° F and mostly sunny 🌀️

I wonder how long my gardening apparatus will be sitting on the kitchen table before it's nice enough to go back to puttering around in my balcony garden again, next June? I hope sooner than that, I might die of old age before then, too, you know. I want my seedlings to sprout before THIS coming June.

It's lovely to sit out there when everything is green, but since February, we have had only one nice day when I could sit with my coffee in my Green Space. I keep it cleaned of snow and green with artificial plants all winter for such occasions. This year, I sat out there three times, once in February and twice in March. There was simply too much wind this past winter, especially that infernal freezing wind. Too cold to sit out there much this year so far.

TODAY'S DISCUSSION:

THE SYSTEM

What will happen if the system breaks down? That's quite a good possibility, given the Orange Snot Ball messing it all up with his TARIFFS and illegal business transactions. What happens to a government that doesn't govern? It can't run by itself. Who's going to want to deal with a government that has no laws, rules, or regulations?

Whose currency will we use to settle international transactions? The Chinese Yuan or cryptocurrency. Personally, I place my bet on the Chinese Yuan. A group of industrialized nations is already pushing for the use of the Yuan instead of the U.S. Dollar. Is America, in the new world order, becoming, "I can see the road sign now!"... floating on a buoy in the ocean? The Port of Pirates? Heck, if I'm going to be a soothsayer, I'm better at tooth-saying: "dumb dentures!" Canada will be China's Western Hemisphere Distributor. I can see it all now, sitting reclined in my office chair, admiring my office door. On the glass panel, in nice, fancy writing, on my office door was: 'Master of Tooth Saying'.

No. I'm not related to Colbert on the late-night show, wish I were, though ☺️

Melania Trump tried to sweep the Epstein saga away, but she ended up reviving it

The most plausible explanation for first lady Melania Trump’s out-of-the-blue address on the Jeffrey Epstein drama was that she was trying to make it go away. But her stunning on-camera statement Thursday from the White House Cross Hall — the spot where her husband last week spoke to the nation about the Iran war — will almost certainly have the opposite effect.

“I am not Epstein’s victim. Epstein did not introduce me to Donald Trump,” she said, in a statement that was all the more remarkable since there had been no widespread public speculation about the matter in recent days.

The optics were of a first lady fed up with reports and speculation she believes falsely link her to Epstein.

The beautiful, violent world awaiting the Artemis II’s return

The view from a quarter million miles away from the planet we call home puts the chaos down below into perspective.

Shortly before the four-person crew of Artemis II crossed behind the moon Monday and briefly lost contact with NASA’s Mission Control, pilot Victor Glover, quoting the Bible, urged humanity to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. “To all of you down there on Earth and around Earth, we love you, from the moon,” Glover said. Canada's economy added a modest 14,000 jobs in March, Statistics Canada said on Friday, clawing back a fraction of the sharp job losses seen during the first two months of the year.

The data agency's previous Labor Force Survey from February showed a loss of 84,000 jobs, a result that was largely a surprise to economists and analysts. ‘The nuclear button for the Vatican’: Pope Leo steps into the political fray

This week, Trump’s threats to end “civilization” in Iran prompted a move Vatican historians call extraordinarily rare.

Pope Leo XIV has never shied away from denouncing injustice. But for months, he avoided anything explicitly political. Then, this week, President Donald Trump threatened to destroy an entire “civilization,” and the first American-born pope crossed a line he had never crossed: urging citizens to call their elected leaders.

“I would like to invite everyone to think in their hearts of so many innocent children, so many totally innocent elderly people who would also be victims of this escalation,” the pope said. “I would like to invite everyone to pray, but also to seek ways to communicate — perhaps with congressmen, with authorities, saying that we don’t want war; we want peace.”

The remarks surprised Vatican observers and marked a defining moment of Leo’s tenure, as his papacy nears the one-year mark. Leo, who is widely viewed as more reserved and measured than his predecessor, has long spoken about migrants, poverty and war in moral terms...

Heather Winterstein shouldn’t have been in wait room, needed frequent checks, a medical expert tells inquest

On the day she died of sepsis, Heather Winterstein shouldn't have been placed in the emergency room waiting area at the St. Catharines hospital until she could see a doctor, an emergency medicine expert told a coroner's inquest Wednesday.

But even if she had to wait in the ER for limited resources and staffing shortages, it would have been critical for her to be reassessed frequently for any signs that her condition was deteriorating, Dr. Ron McMillan of McMaster University testified. PM Carney announces new infrastructure initiatives

*Prime Minister Carney unveils new initiatives to build infrastructure, including pledging $64 million towards a new community center in Brampton, Ontario.*

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=at-oCcMP7R0

Prime Minister Carney launches the Build Communities Strong Fund and announces the first tranche of projects

BRAMPTON, ON, April 7, 2026 /CNW/ - The global economy is rapidly changing, and many Canadians are feeling the effects at home – including increased pressure on housing and infrastructure. In response, Canada's new government is focused on what we can control: increasing our housing supply and investing in modern and reliable infrastructure to build stronger, more affordable communities for Canadians.

In Budget 2025, the Government of Canada announced the Build Communities Strong Fund – a $51 billion investment to build the infrastructure that Canadians rely on every day. It will speed up the construction of hospitals, recreation centres, universities, and colleges that serve our communities; bridges that move our goods; and water and transit systems that keep our towns and cities running.

Delivering on this commitment, today, the Prime Minister, Mark Carney, officially launched the Build Communities Strong Fund – and announced its first project – the new Embleton Community Centre and Park in Brampton, Ontario. This is a $64 million investment to build what will become a 175,000-square-foot community centre with a pool, gymnasium, fitness centre, childcare facility, as well as various community spaces and outdoor recreational amenities. This is the first of a series of 13 projects under the Build Communities Strong Fund across the country – with $300 million in federal funding and more to come in the weeks ahead. In addition to the Embleton Centre and Park, the first tranche of projects can be found here.

The Fund will be a force multiplier in infrastructure – with funding that will be matched by nearly $17 billion from provinces, and additional billions leveraged through municipal and territorial partnerships as well as private capital. Combined with provincial matching, the projects through the Fund will support an average of 42,000 jobs per year – from engineering to the skilled trades. The Fund will boost Canada's GDP by $95 billion over the next decade. That means approximately $12 billion in infrastructure investments every year for the next eight years – nearly double the previous eight years...

The Build Communities Strong Fund delivers funding through three major streams:

A provincial and territorial stream: $17.2 billion over 10 years to plan, build, and deliver critical public infrastructure projects across provinces and territories through bilateral agreements. Provinces will be required to cost-match federal investments and take action to reduce the cost of construction, including for housing-related infrastructure, through reductions to development charges where they pose a barrier to housing construction.

This stream includes funding for:

NOTE ⬇️

• Health-related infrastructure: - A dedicated investment of $5 billion over three years in health infrastructure funding to prioritise upgrades to critical health infrastructure, including hospitals, urgent care centres, and facilities for palliative care, mental health care, and long-term care.

• Housing-enabling infrastructure:* Projects that support and enable housing supply, including water and wastewater systems, roads and bridges, public transit, and community infrastructure.

Infrastructure at colleges and universities: The construction of new facilities or rehabilitation of aging facilities and upgrades to learning and research spaces.

A direct delivery stream: $6 billion over 10 years to deliver regionally significant projects and important local infrastructure, including large building retrofits, climate adaptation infrastructure, and community infrastructure such as new community and recreational spaces. Eligible project proponents can submit proposals starting today.

A community stream: $27.8 billion over 10 years for the construction and rehabilitation of essential local infrastructure such as local roads, bridges, water systems, and community centres...

May the Great Spirit bless you πŸ™

Good morning, all. Well, it is supposed to be in the 50-55 F range today. I may even get a chance to do some fixin' in my Green Space today. I still have all the tools set out on the table from a week ago, but the weather wasn't comfortable enough to do anything out there unless you were wearing winter apparel. Somehow, I don't enjoy doing garden work in a winter coat and mitts.

I thought that, for today, we can take some time away from Satan's Acolyte and his minions and their Dunce Cadets for now, and consider a question that I find interesting, and I pray you will, too. For example, why are we here, and what stake do we have in the unfolding scheme of the universe? We are only here for a whiff of time, as the Apostle Paul calls it, but it's long enough to make a mess of things πŸ’©πŸ«Ÿ

Incredible. A FLASH OF BRIGHT BLINDING LIGHT. No sound, just silence and the bright light, followed by a shockwave. Then everything quickly fades. All that is left is a tiny, dense object – either a neutron star or a black hole – surrounded by an expanding cloud of very hot gas and dust rolling outward from the center of the explosion.

TODAY'S DISCUSSION:

What is the destiny of the Human Hybrid? Why are we here? There's got to be more to it than just our short lives, then end up six feet under the ground for some future paleontologists, maybe 3,000 years from now, to dig up my old bones for an archeological study.

The smallest among them, just 8% the size of our Sun or larger, burn quietly for billions of years. When they run out of fuel, they don't explode — they simply fade, casting off their outer layers and leaving behind a glowing ember: a white dwarf. Silent. Dense. Still burning with the memory of a star that once was.

Larger stars, 8 to 20 times the mass of the Sun, live fast and burn bright. And when they die, they go out with force — collapsing in on themselves, detonating in a massive supernova. What's left behind is a neutron star: unimaginably dense, spinning rapidly, with a magnetic field strong enough to twist light itself.

But the most massive stars — more than 20 times the Sun's mass — collapse so completely after a supernova that not even a neutron star can withstand the pressure. The core contracts into an incredibly small, incredibly dense point known as a black hole — a region of space where gravity is so strong that nothing, not even light, can escape. It's warping space and time itself.

From white dwarfs to neutron stars to black holes, a star's death is never the end — it's part of the universe's ongoing story of destruction, creation, and rebirth.

Question: Information cannot be destroyed or lost - quantum mechanics

The principle that information cannot be destroyed or lost is a fundamental tenet of quantum mechanics known as unitarity. It states that the physical state of a system can always be reversed to its previous state, meaning information is conserved, not erased. Even if information appears lost (e.g., burning a book), it actually transfers into the environment (soot, smoke, and heat).

This video explains why information cannot be destroyed, using the example of a burning book:

Both US and Iran claim victory after two-week ceasefire deal reached

Pakistan has invited Iran and the US for talks on Friday, as Israel says it is continuing ground operations in Lebanon.

What We Know:

11th hour deal: Both President Donald Trump and Iran have portrayed the last minute ceasefire deal as a victory for their nations. The ceasefire pauses a spiraling conflict that has upended the global economy and sparked a historic oil crisis.

Strait of Hormuz: Iran’s military will coordinate passage of vessels through the critical Strait of Hormuz during the ceasefire, Iran’s foreign minister said. Trump said reopening the strait was a key condition of the ceasefire deal.

What happens next? Pakistan’s prime minister has invited delegations from both Iran and the US to Islamabad for talks on Friday. Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Vice President JD Vance are expected to attend.

Lebanon not included: The Israeli military today said it will continue its intensified ground operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office claimed Lebanon was not part of the ceasefire, despite Pakistan’s prime minister saying it is...

Oil prices plunge and markets surge on Iran war ceasefire but ‘significant hurdles remain’

Oil prices plummeted and stocks surged Wednesday after US President Donald Trump agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran, spurring hopes that more oil tankers would soon be able to transit the key Strait of Hormuz. WTI, the US crude benchmark, tumbled almost 16% to $95 a barrel – still well above the $67 level it settled at on February 27, before the war began. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, dropped 14% to $93.8 a barrel.

Despite the sharp moves, uncertainty surrounds the ceasefire, in particular about a quick resumption of transits through the strait, through which about 20% of the world’s oil supply normally passes. The war in the Middle East – and the effective closure of the crucial Strait of Hormuz – has caused the biggest oil supply shock on record, choking off roughly 12 million to 15 million barrels of crude oil a day.

“The market has been eager to get good news but it remains to be seen if the Strait of Hormuz opens fully,” Bob McNally, founder and president of Rapidan Energy Group, told CNN...

Trump desperately wants to claim victory over Iran — but the facts say otherwise

Iran’s ruling regime has not only survived, but Trump’s war may also make it an even wealthier and more influential regional power.

Whatever inspired President Donald Trump to not unleash an even more severe bombing campaign against Iran on Tuesday night — and possibly commit scores of war crimes by obliterating civilian infrastructure in the process — a two-week ceasefire is a positive, if short-term, development. But this should not be celebrated as some kind of victory for America or for the Iranian people, who remain under the yoke of a sadistic theocracy.

Over and over in recent days, Trump has pledged to bomb Iranian power plants and infrastructure as part of a mighty American military campaign. In his zeal to project the U.S.’ “strength,” however, Trump’s actions on Tuesday have signaled something else entirely: a weak and unstable leader who has done irreparable damage to America’s reputation and the global order. Among the most befuddling developments: Why did Trump declare Iran’s “10 point proposal” (brokered through Pakistani mediators) “not good enough” on Monday, but suddenly a “workable basis on which to negotiate” on Tuesday? And how can Trump claim to have fully reopened the Strait of Hormuz when Iran still controls it? ...

EV giant BYD accused of forced labour violations at European factory

China Labor Watch interviewed 50 workers at BYD facility in Hungary

As Canada lowers its tariffs and imports more electric vehicles from China, an upcoming report from New York-based labour rights researchers is making new allegations of forced labour practices at the world's bestselling EV manufacturer, BYD.

China Labor Watch (CLW) received a complaint last fall from one of the thousands of migrant workers brought to Hungary from China to help build BYD's first European plant in the city of Szeged — a $6-billion investment intended to supply the European market with around 300,000 vehicles per year. The non-profit organization launched an investigation and provided CBC News with an advance copy of its findings, set for publication later this month...

CBC News has not independently verified any of the allegations.

BYD did not respond to a request for comment.

Why Canada's reaction to Israel's invasion of Lebanon is so different this time

Carney's condemnation of Israel's 'illegal' action is a marked contrast to Harper's response

Israeli troops appear to have halted their advance into Lebanon short of their original objective of the Litani River. But Israel's government has not moved off its stated intention to reoccupy southern Lebanon, which it held from 1982 to 2000. When Prime Minister Mark Carney was asked for Canada's response last week, he faced similar questions to those put to his predecessor Stephen Harper 20 years ago.

Harper drew criticism for his defence of Israeli actions in 2006 that included the bombing of a UN base that killed Canadian Army Maj. Paeta Hess-von Kruedener, the bombing of Beirut International Airport and threats by the IDF's then chief of staff to smash civilian infrastructure so that "the clock will be turned back 20 years for the Lebanese people." ...
