NASA is about to send people to the moon — in a spacecraft not everyone thinks is safe to fly

When four astronauts begin a historic trip around the moon as soon as February 6, they’ll climb aboard NASA’s 16.5-foot-wide Orion spacecraft with the understanding that it has a known flaw — one that has some experts urging the space agency not to fly the mission with humans on board. But NASA remains confident it has a handle on the problem and the vehicle can bring the crew home safely.

The issue relates to a special coating applied to the bottom part of the spacecraft, called the heat shield. N.L. Hydro, Newfoundland Power giving update on downed hydro station, power

News conference scheduled for 12 p.m. NT, CBC will carry live

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro says that ice removal efforts at the Bay d’Espoir power plant have been “very successful.”

On Friday, Hydro announced that a buildup of frazil ice, a slushy mix of ice crystals suspended in water, had blocked the intake at the plant, forcing it to entirely shut down entirely for the first time since 1967.

A team of divers was deployed into the frigid water with air compressors to try and clear the ice. Newfoundland Power and Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro are holding a media availability at 12 p.m. NT, which CBC News will carry live...
