Great Spirit bless πŸ™

Good Saturday morning, everyone! Well, it's a good morning that I'm alive and well, and not the sickly, tortured, "I'm a dying cockroach!" - 🧟πŸͺ³ like I was earlier this winter. Anything is better than going through that again. I'd sooner get run over by a pavement road roller or get hit by a meteorite.

I am quite happy to be sitting here in my comfy chair, thanks to Paula. It's a very ordinary-looking office chair, not a big one either, but very comfortable to sit in; the seat conforms to my butt πŸͺ‘πŸŸ«(‿Λ ‿)

I'm in my Tree House Newsroom 🏑 where it's pleasant, warm, and bright, sitting here comfortably, sharing what I hope is useful information and updates on the News, along with my comments, shared wisdom, and thoughts and feelings on various news topics. *WARNING!* Don't throw any rotten tomatoes at me; it could mess up your monitor 🍎πŸ–₯️

I was out briefly in my Green Space ☘️🌾🌺, it's pretty wet πŸ’§ out there, must have had a good dousing of rain πŸ’¦ last night. I can hear the water from the swollen creek 🌊 in the woods nearby; I can see it from here, and the temperature is mild, but not where they are calling for yet. It is supposed to be around 70° F today. I would say it was around 40° F when I was out there at 7:00 AM. Well, that's about all there is to report from the Newsroom this morning. Thank you for reading the Tree House News.

Trump signals he will escalate war with Iran as Tehran mulls new US targets

The latest signs of escalation come after Iran’s president apologized to Gulf neighbors for recent strikes.

Here's The Latest:

• Trump’s warning: US President Donald Trump says Iran “will be hit very hard” today, with new areas of the country under consideration for “complete destruction and certain death.” Tehran is looking for new US assets to strike in response, a senior Iranian official told CNN.

• Iranian president’s apology: The latest signs of escalation came shortly after Masoud Pezeshkian apologized for strikes on neighboring Gulf states. But the Iranian president said Tehran would still target areas where US attacks originated, and it’s unclear if his statements align with the goals of the country’s armed forces and powerful Revolutionary Guard.

• Fallen troops to return home: A dignified transfer for the six US service members killed in the conflict will take place today at the Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. Trump and Vice President JD Vance are expected to attend...

Trump tells CNN Cuba is soon going to fall: ‘I’m going to put Marco over there’

President Donald Trump told CNN Friday morning that Cuba “is going to fall pretty soon.”

“Cuba is gonna fall pretty soon, by the way, unrelated, but Cuba is gonna fall too. They want to make a deal so badly,” he told CNN’s Dana Bash in a phone interview when touting US military success in his second term.

“They want to make a deal, and so I’m going to put Marco (Rubio) over there and we’ll see how that works out. We’re really focused on this one right now. We’ve got plenty of time, but Cuba’s ready — after 50 years,” he added, explaining that Iran is the current priority. He added of Cuba: “I’ve been watching it for 50 years, and it’s fallen right into my lap because of me, it’s fallen, but it’s nevertheless fallen right into the lap. And we’re doing very well.” ...

Ukraine’s counter-drone expertise has been hard won. War in the Middle East may reveal its silver lining

As Iran unleashes a wave of retaliatory drones strikes on critical infrastructure around the Persian Gulf, Ukrainian expertise in countering those drones appears to be in demand.

Days into the war with Iran, the Trump administration has identified Tehran’s arsenal of Shahed one-way attack drones as a serious military challenge. In a closed-door briefing earlier this week on Capitol Hill, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine acknowledged that the relatively cheap and low-flying drones, which can saturate and overwhelm air defenses, have been a bigger problem than anticipated, according to two sources that were present.

It’s a military challenge the Ukrainians have become intimately familiar with four years after Russia’s full-scale invasion. Cities around Ukraine are routinely bombarded by a combination of drones and missiles, sometimes hundreds in one night. But even as Moscow continues its bid to break Ukrainian resolve by targeting power generating facilities and the energy grid, officials in Kyiv are signaling that they can share their know-how on combating drones with states in the Middle East...

Canada could be called on to help defend Gulf states, says top military commander

Conservatives say Parliament should debate any military participation in Middle East

The head of the Canadian Armed Forces says Canada may be called on to help defend Persian Gulf states from Iran's strikes as the U.S.-led offensive expands into a wider regional war. The comments come after Prime Minister Mark Carney left the door open to participating in the escalating situation in the Middle East if Canada's allies need help.

Gen. Jennie Carignan, chief of the defence staff, made it clear that Canada is *NOT* participating in Operation Epic Fury, the joint Israeli-U.S. attack on Iran that began six days ago, but stressed the situation is "quite dire and dangerous *FOR THE GULF STATES*.

On the sidelines of a defence conference in downtown Ottawa on Thursday, the top military commander said "our Gulf partners may require defence and support" and "this would be the type of military options that we could consider."...

Democrats see new openings for House wins in Trump country after first midterm races

Jamie Ager acknowledged that his path to flipping his western North Carolina seat involves what he called “difficult math.” Democrats haven’t represented the state’s 11th District in more than a decade, and President Donald Trump carried the seat by 10 points in 2024 under its current district lines.

But Ager, a fourth-generation farmer who won the Democratic primary Tuesday, is hoping his deep ties to the community will help overcome his party’s reputation. “Because I know so many people in the community, I’ve been a good business partner to a lot of folks, people see me less in the context of political partisanship, and more in the context of a friend, a neighbor, community member,” Ager said...

Why Wall Street is calling out ‘echoes’ of the 2008 financial crisis

New York

For months, investors and analysts have kept a close eye on the shadowy corner of finance known as private credit, where alarm bells have stoked fears of a repeat of the 2008 financial crisis. Whether those alarms amount to a handful of isolated bad bets or a more menacing systemic weakness in the $1.8 trillion sector is far from clear. But if the latter is even a remote possibility, it’s worth understanding what the heck is going on.

Great Spirit bless πŸ™

Good morning, folks! I do pray that you are all well and safe, and may the Great Spirit bless you and help you make the right choices on this day πŸ™. Today, my prayers also go to all the good folks I met and knew in America, especially in Tennessee. Back then, to me, it didn't matter what flags they flew or religions they belonged to; I went to their church with them. It didn't matter to me which denomination; I went with my friends. May the Great Spirit especially bless the good-hearted, no matter what religion they are. The Middle East should take a lesson from me, eh? The Canadian Wayward Hippie, they wouldn't have all those wars and disputes and throat-cutting as they do.

MY HOUSE IS YOUR HOUSE.

The G-d of the universe, I have personally come to understand, is the very fabric of time and space, with an evolving consciousness, like the evolving stars, galaxies, nebulae, planets, moons, asteroids, meteors, and the many chemicals and gases, capable of forming life or the environment to support life, etc. Of itself, in this section or dimension in time and space, the temporal world and all the ingredients and chemical compounds required to form life.

How did all the right elements required to form life get here? And how much of that ingredient for life is there in a place as large as the universe, where we can't even detect the outside edge? It's actually hard to tell which way the outer edge points. From what we were told, we are closer to the Big Bang than we are to the outside edge of the universe; that's my guess.

TODAY'S DISCUSSION:

Universe, Great Spirit/G-d.

- Google Search -

πŸ”ΉAI Overview

Yes, we are significantly "closer" to the Big Bang in terms of time and location than we are to the edge of the universe, primarily because the Big Bang happened everywhere at once.

Universe Today

Question: Are we closer to the Big Bang than the outside edge of the universe?

Here is a breakdown of why this is the case:

  • The Big Bang is "Here": The Big Bang was not an explosion in space; it was an explosion of space itself that occurred everywhere simultaneously 13.8 billion years ago. The matter that makes up Earth was present at the Big Bang. In that sense, we are sitting exactly on top of where the Big Bang happened.
  • The "Edge" is Farther: When we talk about the "edge" of the universe, we are referring to the observable universe—the limit from which light has had enough time (13.8 billion years) to travel to us. Due to the expansion of space, this edge is actually about 46 billion light-years away in every direction.
  • No "Outside" Edge: The universe is not believed to have a physical edge or boundary. The "edge" we see is a temporal boundary (the cosmic microwave background) rather than a physical wall.

WELL, HAPPY TRAILS, EVERYONE. It's one Hell of a long way to Tipperary.

US gas prices are now at their highest level in 11 months

The Iran war is spreading like a wildfire, and I don't see any firefighters anywhere in sight! Just a bunch of clucking chickens sitting on their useless little chicken wings, U.N. and Congress will never fly, leaving their citizens at the mercy of The Republinazis of Bizaromerica. CAN YOU TRUST YOUR LIFE IN THE HANDS OF A DEMENTED MANIAC? The Coo-coo in charge!

America is the oil king of the world. So why is the Iran war sending gas prices higher?

The United States is producing more oil than any country in the history of the planet. Yet the war with Iran has sent gas prices up 20 cents a gallon, or 7% in just a few days.

Why?

No matter how much crude the United States produces domestically, oil is traded in a global market – one that President Donald Trump just upended. Without all of the United States’ substantial crude production, Americans could already be paying $4 or even $5 a gallon for gasoline...

Question: _*Canada having its own oil, what are we planning to do if the prices of fuel keep skyrocketing

πŸ”ΉAI Overview

Despite being a major oil producer, Canada's fuel prices are largely determined by global market forces, making them susceptible to international conflicts, currency fluctuation, and supply constraints. As of early 2026, with fuel prices threatening to climb due to volatility in the Middle East, the strategic approach focuses on boosting domestic production, accelerating the energy transition, and leveraging market mechanisms.

Here is what is planned to manage skyrocketing fuel prices

1. Increasing Domestic Production and Infrastructure

Growing Output: Canadian oil supply is projected to grow by roughly 4% in 2026 to about 5.5 million barrels per day, with producers actively seeking ways to increase output to meet demand.

Upgrading Infrastructure: To address constraints in transporting oil to market, there is a focus on increasing pipeline capacity to prevent bottlenecks that can exacerbate price differences.

*Energy Security:* The federal government is addressing supply concerns, with reports of other nations calling to leverage Canadian energy, signaling a push to boost Canadian production to enhance self-sufficiency.

Financial Post:

2. Accelerating the Transition to Renewables

  • Electrification: High and volatile oil prices are accelerating the shift toward electric transportation, which is expected to reduce long-term global oil demand and decrease reliance on fossil fuels.

Alternative Investments: The government is focusing on investing in clean alternatives, such as heat pumps, public transit, and electric vehicles to cut long-term costs and pollution.

-CBC-

3. Policy and Regulatory Measures

  • Removing Carbon Pricing: Effective April 1, 2025, the federal government moved to remove the consumer carbon charge to help lower gas prices and reduce inflationary pressures.

Market-Based Pricing: The federal government maintains that, outside of emergencies, it does not regulate retail gasoline prices, relying on competition to set prices.

*Strengthening Competition:* The government is acting to strengthen the Competition Act to ensure fair competition among fuel retailers.

4. Consumer Support and Relief

  • Provincial Tax Relief: While federal, some provincial governments have previously introduced temporary gas tax cuts during price spikes, and may consider such measures again to provide relief.
  • Direct Rebates: The federal "Climate Action Incentive" program is designed to provide rebates to households to offset costs, with 80% of households in applicable provinces receiving more in rebates than they pay in carbon costs.

While these measures are in place, the immediate trend in early 2026 indicates that rising global demand and conflict-driven uncertainty could lead to further price volatility, with experts encouraging consumers to use, where possible, alternative transportation and monitor local fuel cycles...

How America’s war with Iran has shattered the U.A.E.’s sense of security

When debris from an intercepted Iranian missile struck the Fairmont The Palm, a five-star hotel on Dubai’s opulent manmade archipelago on Feb. 28, it pierced not just the country’s advanced missile defence system but also its carefully crafted image of security. For decades, the United Arab Emirates has positioned itself as an economic and cultural hub, connecting European and Asian markets.

“The U.A.E. in particular, but more broadly, the rest of the Gulf positioned itself as a haven, surrounded by a pool of chaos for the last 40 years … and that's all been shattered now,” said Stephen, a political analyst who now resides in Ireland...

Some OpenAI staff are fuming about its Pentagon deal

AI CEO Sam Altman speaks during Snowflake Summit 2025 at Moscone Center on June 2, 2025, in San Francisco, California

Messages written in chalk covered the sidewalk outside OpenAI's San Francisco offices Monday morning: "Where are your redlines?" "You must speak up." "What are the safeguards?" The messages, according to social media and news reports, were written by activists. But some of those feelings are shared by many within the building, after OpenAI struck a deal with the Pentagon on Friday to use its AI models in classified systems.

Anthropic had already rejected an update to its contract with the Pentagon because it felt the language didn't adhere to the company's redlines around the use of AI in mass surveillance and autonomous weapons. The Pentagon blacklisted the company as a result, designating it a supply chain risk.

The contracts are steeped in legal and technical complexity. But in public forums and in private conversations, OpenAI employees are venting about how OpenAI leadership handled the Pentagon negotiations. CIA working to arm Kurdish forces to spark uprising in Iran, sources say

The CIA is working to arm Kurdish forces with the aim of fomenting a popular uprising in Iran, multiple people familiar with the plan told CNN. The Trump administration has been in active discussions with Iranian opposition groups and Kurdish leaders in Iraq about providing them with military support, the sources said.

Iranian Kurdish armed groups have thousands of forces operating along the Iraq-Iran border, primarily in Iraq’s Kurdistan region. Several of the groups have released public statements since the beginning of the war hinting at imminent action and urging Iranian military forces to defect. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been striking Kurdish groups and said on Tuesday that it targeted Kurdish forces with dozens of drones. The CIA support for Iranian Kurdish groups began several months before the war, one of the sources and a senior Kurdistan Regional Government official said...

Questions remain about missed pay and better communication from the ministry

As a birthday surprise for secondary school teacher Chris Matisz, he received what he felt like a "gut-punch" when he opened a letter from the Ministry of Education saying he had lost his job.

'It's not easy, let's be clear': Carney speaks frankly about dealing with Trump at an event in Australia

Carney said Trump is open to hearing ideas and solicits opinions from those he speaks with

Prime Minister Mark Carney pulled back the curtain on his relationship with his American counterpart Wednesday evening in Australia saying it's not easy dealing with U.S. President Donald Trump and he must choose his words carefully to avoid any blowback.

Speaking at a think tank question-and-answer session in Sydney on his Indo-Pacific tour, Carney said Trump is also somewhat different in private than he is in public and there's room for a free flow of ideas when you sit down with him face-to-face. Asked how he has navigated the relationship with the sometimes erratic Trump so far, Carney said: "Respect but not obsequiousness." ...

As Iran war raises terror risk, U.S. enforcement agencies are spread thin, experts say

U.S. faces heightened threat level after a year of big changes to agencies that oversee security

But after a year of federal budget cuts, resignations, firings, layoffs and a reshuffling of the Trump administration's priorities, some national security experts are worried about the ability of those agencies to respond. "The administration has reduced U.S. capabilities in this area, so the United States might be more vulnerable than it was a year ago," said Daniel Byman, director of the Warfare of Irregular Threats and Terrorism program at the non-partisan Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C. ...
