Well, Sunshine, you say! Where, where? In your red polkadot underwear. But sorry to say, "IT AIN'T SUNNY OUT!"

Sorry for shouting out loud. But at least the song helps to bring a little sunshine inside.

Actually, you can play the Group Theme song at the top of the group page, click on the ARBOL... sticker - TRIBAL MUSIC INSTRUMENTAL while reading the news.

First, I would like to say thank you all for the FOLLOWS yesterday. The reason I wish to make a special note of this is that it seems I've gotten anywhere from above-average to higher-than-average views across all six social networks I publish on, numbers I haven't seen before.

Especially Facebook, where the response has been quiet and small. Then last night, it suddenly came alive! Apparently, I did something right that resonated with more readers! I can only say that I am grateful for the reaction to whatever insight I put out that caused that spike in readers. It was well worth drafting, polishing, and posting it. I pray it was useful and served its purpose for someone. Thank you again for helping me to serve.

So, what topic shall we discuss today?

"The Idiot of the day, or the genius of the day? Or shall we discuss climate change, pollution, war and peace, or shall we begin with the new habitat they are planning to build on the Moon as a national symbol of peace and collaboration among nations? Question: Why do they allow idiots to rule the world

πŸ”ΉAI Overview

The idea that "idiots" rule the world is a common sentiment often rooted in psychological, systemic, and historical factors Several theories explain why people who are perceived as incompetent or "stupid" frequently attain positions of power:

The Dunning-Kruger Effect:

The Peter Principle:

Mass Psychology and Voting Habits: In democratic systems, voters often favor candidates they feel they can relate to or who present simple, emotionally resonant messages rather than complex, fact-based arguments Some argue that mass psychology allows leaders to manipulate public emotion to gain power despite a lack of wisdom.

Systemic Preservation of Mediocrity:

The "Basic Laws of Human Stupidity":

Financial and Corporate Influence: Critics often argue that those in power are not necessarily "idiots" but are incentivized by large-scale capital and profit maximization, which can lead to policies that appear nonsensical to the general public but serve specific elite interests.

Pope says he has ‘no fear of Trump administration’ after president slams his Iran war criticism

Pope Leo XIV on Monday strongly pushed back against criticism from US President Donald Trump, defending his position of seeking peace and rejecting violence amid the Iran war.

“I have no fear of the Trump administration or speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do, what the church is here to do,” the pontiff told reporters aboard his plane where he was starting a 10-day trip to the African continent.

“We are not politicians, we don’t deal with foreign policy with the same perspective (as) he might understand it,” he continued. “But I do believe in the message of the Gospel, as a peacemaker.” The comments came after Trump tore into the pope on Sunday evening, denouncing his stance on the Iran war and saying he’s “terrible for foreign policy.” ...

Both Trump and his defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, have invoked God in public messaging during the conflict, with Hegseth framing the war effort as divinely supported and even using scriptural justification.

Leo has repeatedly pushed back against this idea. ...

Democrats sense new GOP defections on a war powers vote

Democrats are teeing up votes on war powers resolutions in the House and Senate — and they think they could win over some new Republicans.

Congressional Democrats will, once again, try to rein in President Donald Trump’s war with Iran this week — and this time, they believe there’s a pathway to success.

Top Democrats in both the House and Senate say they will force votes this week on war powers resolutions aimed at cutting off hostilities in Iran. They only need a handful of Republicans to join them to constrain the president over the conflict, though Democrats would need a two-thirds majority in both chambers if Trump vetoed a war powers resolution — which he almost certainly would do.

In that practical sense, Democrats face long odds. But on a political level, the GOP is increasingly tying its midterm fate to a conflict growing more unpopular every week.

“Every day that Republicans stand in the way of Democratic efforts to end this war,” Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., said Thursday, “is another day that they own the chaos, the bloodshed and the economic volatility that has resulted.”

Initially estimated at around $200 billion, recent reporting from The Washington Post suggests it could be half that.

While Republicans may try to use reconciliation to pass that funding with solely GOP votes, there are early signs that not all Republicans would support the supplemental. ...

Israel launches attack to seize Lebanon border town ahead of U.S.-hosted talks

Hezbollah opposed to talks; Israel says it won't discuss ceasefire

Israeli troops launched an attack to seize a key south Lebanon town from Hezbollah fighters holed up inside on Monday, pressing its war on the Iran-backed group on the eve of historic talks between Israeli and Lebanese government envoys. With the Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors to the United States set to meet on Tuesday in Washington, Lebanon's foreign minister said Beirut would use face-to-face negotiations to press for a ceasefire in the war that has complicated wider diplomacy to halt the conflict in the Middle East.

But the outlook for the meeting — a rare, face-to-face encounter between countries formally in a state of war — has been overshadowed, with Israel saying it won't discuss a ceasefire while Hezbollah has objected to negotiations with Israel, reflecting sharply worsening political tensions in Lebanon...

Oil prices rise, global markets decline ahead of U.S. blockade of Strait of Hormuz

Brent crude oil rose to $102.24 US a barrel on Monday as markets in much of Europe and Asia declined

Oil prices resumed their climb and global markets mostly declined on Monday as the U.S. military prepared to blockade traffic to and from Iranian ports and the Strait of Hormuz, where most shipping has been stalled by Iran since the start of the war. U.S. President Donald Trump announced the planned blockade after U.S.-Iran ceasefire talks in Pakistan ended without an agreement, and the U.S. military said the blockade involving all Iranian ports would begin Monday at 10 a.m. EDT, or 5:30 p.m. in Iran.

Oil prices have been rising as shipping through the strait has essentially stalled since late February. Brent crude oil, the international standard, has gone from roughly $70 US per barrel before the war in late February to more than $119 at times...

Someone made a mess with WD-40 on the floor from all the way to my partner's chair in the Newsroom, and wouldn't you know it, I stepped right in it with my nice woolly socks my sister knitted for me. BREAKING NEWS:

Trump says US will blockade Strait of Hormuz after Iran talks end without a deal

In marathon meetings this weekend, sources say the two sides were deadlocked over Tehran's nuclear program and control of the strait.

Where Things Stand:

Uncertain future: Sources say a stalemate over Iran’s nuclear stockpile and control of the Strait of Hormuz dashed hopes the US and Iran could agree to a long-term peace deal this weekend. About 10 days remain in a tenuous ceasefire reached last Tuesday.

Blockade in the strait: President Donald Trump said the US Navy will start preventing ships from passing through the Strait of Hormuz and interdicting any vessel that pays a toll to Iran for use of the waterway, accusing Tehran of “extortion.” Global energy supplies will remain throttled in the absence of a deal securing the vital shipping channel.

Conflict in Lebanon: Meanwhile, talks between Israeli and Lebanese diplomats are due to take place this week. Israeli attacks targeting Iran-backed Hezbollah continued overnight, resulting in deaths and injuries...

Trump’s closest ally in Europe faces toughest test yet as Hungary votes. Here’s what to know

Budapest, Hungary — Viktor OrbΓ‘n is seeking a fifth consecutive term as Hungary’s prime minister.

During 16 years in office, he has transformed his small central European country from a burgeoning Western democracy into an illiberal one, providing a model of right-wing populist governance that has won praise from abroad.

At home, however, many are tired of the system OrbΓ‘n has built. The opposition Tisza party, led by PΓ©ter Magyar, has campaigned relentlessly against corruption and Hungary’s economic stagnation. Meanwhile, OrbΓ‘n’s Fidesz party – backed by the United States and Russia – has focused mostly on perceived external threats to Hungary, such as those that the party says are posed by neighboring Ukraine and the European Union.

Tisza has held a double-digit lead over Fidesz in most polls for more than a year. But analysts say Hungary’s heavily gerrymandered electoral system means the result of the parliamentary vote could be tight...

What’s troubling about Delcy Rodriguez’s transition from pariah to Trump’s partner

The key questions:* What is the Trump administration getting for its concessions, and what does lifting sanctions mean for the Venezuelan people over time?

Some major changes are looming for Venezuela: A law passed Thursday opens mining to foreign investors — a priority of the Trump administration. The U.S. government recently recognized the regime of acting President Delcy Rodriguez and removed long-standing sanctions against Rodriguez herself. The message is clear: The priority is economic recovery.

So the question must be asked: What are the people of Venezuela getting out of all this, and what is the Trump administration getting for its concessions? As things stand, the U.S. risks frittering away the leverage it holds over Venezuela’s recovery...

  • What are the people of Venezuela getting out of all this, and what is the Trump administration getting for its concessions?:
  • It cannot be forgotten that Venezuela’s stability is merely a continuation of the same regime under new management.:
  • The Trump administration’s logic appears to be: If you want to stabilize an imploding petro‑state, manage migration and keep global oil markets calm, you deal with the person who commands the bureaucracy and security forces:

There's a silver lining in the Iran war ceasefire for Canada's oil and gas industry

Gulf LNG shuts down as LNG Canada comes online, raising prices and showcasing low risks of Canadian energy

The energy fallout of the U.S. and Israel-Iran war is a reminder that life is often unfair. The United States, which started the war with a surprise attack on Iran in the middle of negotiations, could escape largely unscathed in terms of its energy supply — even as its international reputation takes a hit and U.S. inflation spikes as a result of oil prices.

But U.S. allies in Asia and Europe, who were neither consulted nor warned about the U.S.-Israeli attack, are facing sustained shortages. For Canada the outcome — if it holds — represents a soft landing from a potentially disastrous situation, with a considerable silver lining for Canada's oil and gas industry...

Viktor OrbΓ‘n spent 16 years building Hungary's 'illiberal' democracy. On Sunday, he may be voted out

A number of independent polls suggest OrbΓ‘n’s party trails the opposition Tisza, led by PΓ©ter Magyar

In the hours before polling stations opened up across Hungary, while candidates wrapped up last-minute campaigning in cities and villages spanning the Hungarian plains, a sense of nervousness swept through the electorate ahead of what’s being seen as a pivotal vote.

Independent polls have suggested that Viktor OrbΓ‘n’s Fidesz party could lose to the opposition party Tisza, which is led by PΓ©ter Magyar, a one-time Fidesz loyalist-turned-challenger. Loyal supporters of Hungary’s strongman fear an end to his 16-year-rule, while those who have been campaigning against him for years are worried a surge in opposition support still may not be enough to clench the two-thirds majority they covet...
