Fairy Legends

Fairy Legends

Where Fairies Dwell
Out beyond the Jewelled sky
there, where only dreams can fly
Far beyond the Milky Way
where the rainbows go to play
is the land, where Fairies dwell

Here where fairy tales are born
where the sacred oath is sworn
To do only pleasant things
is how a fairy earns her wings
Here was born, the Fairy Nell

Nell was not like all the rest
she with mischief had been blessed
While others did what should be done
Nell would always look for fun
in the land, where Fairies dwell

It usually happened in the spring
when Flower Fairies did their thing
Little Nell would cause a frown
by planting tulips upside down
in the land, where Fairies dwell

Or when a baby tooth fell out
and no Tooth Fairy was about
Nell sneaked in, and with her thumb
shoved the tooth back in the gum
In the land, where Fairies dwell

But most of all she loved to see
her friends upon a Christmas tree
That’s when she puts in double shifts
changing labels on the gifts
in the land, where Fairies dwell

One day the Queen said that’s enough
I’m sick and tired of all this stuff
And all the trouble that it brings
I’m confiscating Nelly’s wings
but this didn't bother Nell

For now across the land she roams
accompanied by Elves and Gnomes
Taking pleasure from the nights
by playing trick with Imps and Sprites
upon the land where Fairies dwell

Devas of Nature

I have some knowledge about the Devas. If you would like to ask any questions I will do what I can to share my knowledge to answer your questions before I move on to the next part. Thank you.

Part 1 Devas of Nature

Nature spirits are all around the Earth. There are two kinds – spirits of land and spirits of life. These can all be called 'nature devas', though the term Deva is usually reserved for the greater or larger intelligence-presences of nature, while the more localized and particularized spirits are simply called nature-spirits or the spirits of a place. Of course, a name is not so important as what it refers to.

Mother Earth is a planetary Being with consciousness, creative intelligence, love, and vitality which are themselves powers of the Universal Spirit. The whole creative intelligence of Earth divides into various kinds of intelligence, and these various intelligences also exist in geographical areas all over the planet. These are the Devas. They are creative intelligences, of various kinds, and in various locations. Each Deva is a Spirit-being with consciousness and intelligence.

We can learn to communicate with the Devas and with all nature spirits. When humanity learns how to communicate with nature-beings, then we will live much more harmoniously in nature, in our natural world. And as we learn to literally communicate with nature, we will learn more about nature, including its etheric healing energies, its intelligences, and the spirit-presences of nature. We can actually learn from the Spirits of Nature, if we first learn to be sensitive in nature and communicate with these Spirits from our hearts and minds.

Devas of the land

Devas of the land are the energies and qualities of the land. All Devas and spirit of place have four aspects, or four kinds of energies. These are their etheric-vital energy, consciousness, intelligence, and emotional quality of presence. The land (minerals, rocks, water) hold this spirit-presence of consciousness, intelligence, emotional-feeling, and etheric energy. These energies, which maintain and evolve the planet, are accumulated and distributed across the land. We can experience or study each energy separately or as a whole.

The land has consciousness. In any area we stand we are in a natural "field of consciousness", which is in the land we are on. Each place has consciousness, and even larger areas of land have consciousness. So we are always in a natural field of consciousness. The same can be said of presence. In any natural area we are in a field of spirit-presence, which is the presence and consciousness of the Deva-spirit.

The quality of a place correlates to the kind of Deva present. The Devic presence influences the quality present on this land or at this place. Or in other words, the quality of a locality/place depends on the presence quality of the Deva present there. However, it is also possible to attract finer Deva qualities by what we do on the land or by what we build, and we can attract certain qualities by requesting a certain kind of Devic presence.

Devas of the land guide the natural energies of all which lives on that land. Each particular locality, place or area will be guided by its land Deva, which will have its own unique intelligence and quality of feeling, and its own 'field of consciousness.' This is the guardian spirit of the land, who is guiding that area, its maintenance, growth, and evolution. The natural presence, the nature-consciousness, the love, and the natural power of a place are all aspects of the Deva presence.

In geomancy we can sometimes physically locate the 'Devic throne' or 'Guardian's Throne' in a large area of land, which is where a larger concentration of this spirit-presence 'sits', and this is also known as the center vortex of an area. Yet the whole area is enfolded in this spirit-presence and its nature energies.

In addition, the land records the feelings and consciousness patterns of what is around it. Therefore, memory patterns (from the past) are held in the land and in water. In every place on the land there is a memory present, because the land holds memory. The rocks hold memory and water holds memory. This memory is in the crystalline structure of rocks and water. Feelings and emotions are recorded in this memory. Then, this memory becomes part of the 'personality' (as it were) of the place. The soul of a place is its natural quality and spirit-presence, but the personality of the place will hold past memories from those who were around and from what has occurred there, which might be very positive or contrarily troublesome.

When there has been troublesome or negative energies recorded in the land, from past emotions and activities occurring there, then the land is in need of healing. The need for healing will be especially important if there were past traumatic emotions involving violence, which produces a memory shock in the land.

--Also read Healing the land.

A geographical hierarchy and web

We use the term, 'nature-spirit', when discussing singular spirit-beings, and we use 'spirit-of-place' in reference to the spirit of particular places. But we use the term Deva(s) when discussing the larger, more encompassing Spirit-beings of nature.

For example, imagine a small pond and meadow area. It will have its own particular spirit. This is the spirit of the land, or it's called the spirit of place. Even more specifically, there is a spirit of the pond and a spirit of the meadow, even though the pond is within the meadow; one spirit being within the other. Then imagine the larger area in which this is. This too has its spirit of place, yet this is a larger spirit of place which encompasses all of the smaller areas within it. So, there are particular spirit-places, particular areas of spirit, but the boundaries of these particular areas are not at all fixed or definable, because each area merges with adjacent and surrounding areas. Yet all areas are within even larger areas, which means that any one spirit of place will be within a larger spirit of place (or spirit of the land).

The spirit-devas of land are interrelated in a spacial-geographic way, such that a particular area of land is interrelated, in spirit, with the larger area of land encompassing it. Thus, devas of the land are geographical spirit-beings and are structured in a geographical-spacial hierarchy.

The encompassing size of a geographical Deva depends on the size of land in question. We might speak of the 'larger' or 'overall' Deva, or perhaps the 'Spirit of the land', when referring to larger areas of land. Yet when studying or sensitive to smaller areas of land, or more localized areas, a better term would be the 'spirit of place'. The boundary or size of a spirit of place cannot be exactly defined, but one can often feel the presence or quality of a particular place, as distinct from a different 'place' not so far away. In other words, the spirit of place can be quite localized and even somewhat small in its actual area. Thus, the 'spirit of the land' is a more general, overall, encompassing area; while a 'spirit of place' is much more localized and specifically defined. But in essence, all spirits of place and spirits of land, no matter how small or how large, are Deva spirits.

We might think of the larger-encompassing Deva/Spirit as the parent to all of the many particular spirits of place within that overall area of land, while each spirit of place would be like a child within a greater Deva of land. Therefore, the smaller places-of-spirit (or spirits of place) exist within larger Spirit/Areas which then exist within even Larger Ones, until finally there is the Whole of Mother Earth Spirit.

So this all comprises an intricate hierarchical Web of interrelating and interpenetrating 'spirits of the land', each enfolding a geographical area, small or large. Each spirit-of-land exists within a larger Spirit-of-land, while also enfolding smaller spirit-areas (or spirit-places) within it. However, the boundaries between these spirits are not distinctly definite, but rather more fluid and inter-blending.

To understand this, we need to think outside of our usual limited way of understanding things, persons, and souls. We need to think much more inter-relationally and without distinctly separate boundaries, in order to understand the spiritual world of nature.

Devas of life

Devas of the land include mountain and hill spirits, lake and other water spirits, and any other kind of nature spirit that abides on the land. This also includes trees, other kinds of vegetation, and crops as well; and also included would be its natural animal habitats. So all of the actual living things in an area are included in its overall 'spirit of land' or 'spirit of place'. Yet tree spirits and animal spirits, for instance, are also part of a greater 'Deva-of-life' – which is its genus intelligence.

Devas of life are the archetypes of life within Nature, the genus intelligences. Nature abounds with various spirits and energies, but Devas are the greater spirits, the archetypal, or genus souls of nature. They are the essential intelligences of nature. For example, a Deva exists for each species of plant and tree, each mineral kind, and each animal species. Each Deva is the 'group-soul', or collective intelligence, which holds the archetypal blueprint for the growth and characteristics of each kind of plant or animal or mineral or molecular entity. The Devas are, thus, the governing intelligences and essential consciousnesses at work behind the forms of all natural life.

Each particular pine tree, for example, may have its own particular spirit with a memory of its own individual growth and its distinct surroundings and relations. But there is only one Deva Intelligence within all pine trees. In other words, all pine trees have the sane Deva - which is like the ancestral guide or pattern. Same for different animal species, etc.

Particularized spirits, as found in a particular place, are the singular individuated spirits of nature; as for example, the specific spirit of a particular tree. Each tree, for example, has its own individual spirit. A particular physical tree will be enfolded by its particular spirit (its consciousness and emotional being), similar to a human body having its own soul-spirit. The spirit of the tree and its physical manifestation are two sides of the same thing. So we can relate to the physical part of the tree and/or to the spirit of the tree, though we need to use our feeling and spiritual senses to experience the tree-spirit.

So in a small forest of many trees are the many individual tree spirits. Though a particular tree spirit is not so uniquely individualized as particular human souls, because there is much more interrelatedness and blending in the kingdoms of nature; yet each individual tree-spirit might be slightly unique from the other ones, which would be its unique 'tree-personality'. But if we sense and relate to other tree-spirits in same area, we will discover much more similarity than difference. This is because each of the individual tree-spirits are enfolded by a larger spirit of nature. They all share a common spirit-essence.

So essentially, all of these trees will have the same essence of spirit intelligence, consciousness and presence; The essential similarity between all of the tree spirits of this forest would then be the 'larger' spirit of the forest, and the essential similar tree intelligence of all the pine trees (for example) would be the Grand Spirit of pine trees, or called the pine tree Deva. In other words, each individual tree-spirit is part of a greater Tree-Spirit, its tree 'Oversoul'. For example, each pine tree is part of the Pine Tree Spirit, or that kind of tree Oversoul. Each oak tree is part of the Oak Tree Spirit, which is its Oversoul. And finally, all trees are part of the Great Tree Spirit Itself, the enfolding consciousness and intelligence of all trees, which is the Oversoul of all tress.

Thus, we can picture in our creative intuitional imagination a hierarchy of tree spirits, from the particular-individual to its shared Oversoul and finally to the One Great Spirit of Tree... encompassing all trees. Even further, we might see that all parts of nature are within and part of the One Great Spirit we can call Mother Nature or Earth Nature or Soul of the Earth. In this way, all lives of nature are interrelated spiritually and energetically, as well as in a physical ecological way. This example with trees can analogously be applied to other lives of nature, even including the animal kingdom. So, we can relate or communicate with an individual-particular nature spirit, or else with its larger Oversoul Spirit, or else with the One Great Spirit of Mother Nature.

There is an added complexity in all this, which is that there are hierarchies of Devas, or Devas encompassed within Greater Devas. To understand hierarchies, imagine a pyramid of levels, or imagine circles within circles such that there are inner circles within outer circles. One can also imagine a large geographical area with a number of smaller areas in it, like parcels of land, and then there are further smaller areas within each of these parcels, such that the larger parcels encompass smaller parcels, and many smaller parcels might exist within a larger parcel-area which itself might be within an even greater area.

So, some Devas are greater and more encompassing than others, and these could be the called the Grand Devas or Grand Archetypes. For example, certain species of trees have common basic characteristics; like many species of trees have the same basic evergreen characteristics. Certain kinds of animals have cat-like characteristics, and therefore we can empirically classify them in a cat family, which would have at its essence of intelligence the Grand Deva of all cat creatures. Thus, there is a natural hierarchy of Devas, some inclusive of others and some inter-webbed with each other, which comprise the intelligent essences of nature. These are the essential intelligences of Mother Earth, which pattern the physical forms and behavioral characteristics found on earth.

Also, Devas are in their own process of evolution, as gradually over time they better integrate and harmonize together, and they become more intelligently adaptable and cooperative with each other’s expressive purposes. Thus, the kingdoms and species of nature are, from their own intelligence, developing a greater ecological harmony and co-operation. As human intelligences having the possibility of a wider scientific view of natural life, we can help and cooperate in this natural ecological evolution.

Intelligences of Nature

Devas are the intelligences of nature, the intelligences of Mother Earth, which guide and pattern the natural creative evolution of all life. They are not absolutely dictating and designing how every life will be on Earth, for there is still creative chance at work, but they are generally guiding the evolutionary process, and each general specie of life has its guiding Deva Intelligence.

Devas are nature spirits of the highest order. They are the mind of nature, the guiding intelligences and organizers of form. They are the patterning forces, which create the unique patterns and forms on the earth. In more scientific terms, there are morphogenetic mind fields, governing this creative existence. These 'fields of intelligence' have an aspect of beingness, which we call Devas or nature spirits.

So most significantly, we should understand the Devas as the Intelligences of Nature, though they also possess consciousness, presence-qualities, and vital energy-powers. These Intelligences of Nature are the guiding beings of nature. The whole physical world of nature is guided by these Deva Intelligences. Even in our own physical bodies the Devas of Intelligence are at work. For this is the Natural Intelligence of our physical body, guiding our health and capable of incredible healing power when circumstances happen to set our health astray. The Devas of nature created these physical bodies, so they can just as well heal them with the same natural intelligence.

If we could imagine our self as Mother Earth, then the Devas are our powers of intelligence, or our different kinds of intelligences. Even in our physical body is an intricate hierarchy of natural intelligence. Each cell has an intelligence, different tissues have their intelligence, and so do our various organs, and finally each body system has its intelligence. So this is a physical body example of how natural intelligence works hierarchically and spatially.

But Intelligence also works in an ontological functional hierarchy, which can be visualized as a hierarchical pyramid, ranging from general to specific. This is general and more essential Intelligence ranging into more specific intelligences and applications. This is the Intelligence hierarchy of Higher to lower, General to specific.

To understand this, consider Devas of the trees. These are the Intelligences of trees. At the top of this Deva hierarchy is the Grand Intelligence (or Grand Deva) of all trees. This embodies the most general and essential intelligence of all trees. Higher than this would be the Grand Deva Intelligence of all growing things, also known as Queen Deva of all the Vegetable Kingdom. So the Grand Queen Deva of the trees is the Great Intelligence essential in all trees. Next are the Deva Genius's of particular tree species, which embody the particular intelligence creating each distinct kind of tree. Then, there is each particular tree, which we do not refer to as a Deva, but as a particular-individual tree-spirit.

Each particular life has its own intelligence, yet a Deva is the source of its particular intelligence. For example, each particular tree has its individual intelligence, and each particular cat has its individual intelligence. Yet, the source of each particularized intelligence is its Deva Spirit, its ancestral source.

In esoteric teachings this is described in the following sentence. Each individual life is given its intelligence by the greater Intelligence of which it is within. This greater Intelligence is the guiding general pattern of that particular life, which has existed prior to that life, and which has given birth to that life. Thus, each life has its own intelligence, but this is due to the greater Intelligence of which it is part, and that particular life-form cannot become what is outside of its given general intelligence. There is a creative diversity possible, its possible biological variation, but only within a certain boundary of pattern. In other words, each think could not possibly have become something too different from its general pattern given, though each life does have degrees of variable freedom. Each life-form is, in fact, a unique creative variation of the general Intelligence-pattern of which it is.

Each particular life has its own DNA, the intelligence of its seed, which was given by its parent, its predecessor, its ancestry. Yet, the DNA intelligence is simply the physical counterpart of the spirit intelligence. Each living thing holds a unique pattern of DNA intelligence as its guidance for development, and this was passed on by physical processes from its ancestry. So, scientifically each intelligence could be explained by this and by natural selective evolution. But as yet unrecognized by science are the Deva-Spirit Intelligences which guide the formulation of DNA and the general patterns of a species development. These work in morphogenetic fields.

Fairies, Elf's, Pixies

Fact behind the Fairies;

The most controversial story known in West Yorkshire involving fairies was the case of the Cottingley fairies, it was brought about in the north of England called West Yorkshire by two girls who claimed to have seen and taken photos of fairies in the glen of Cottingley. The truth is that they had faked the photos to convince adults that had gone to see if the allegations where true, but they still claimed even though they had done this terrible thing by lying about the pictures, they still wanted people to believe that they had really seen these fairies.

History of Fairies;

Fairies are small supernatural creatures of human form. Some fairies were good and some were thought to be pretty frightening, whilst being onset of Christianity, these creatures whilst still a Myth and legend, grew less forbidding and less powerful over the centuries.

Fairies are so prevalent in mythical cultures that its natural to wonder where they came from. Some people believe that fairies are the soul of the dead.. E.g. which are people that wasnt thought to be good enough to enter into Heaven but yet not bad enough for Hell.

How to see Fairies;

Humans rarely see fairies, but Legend says that if you pick a four-leaf clover and lie quietly in a field, you will soon be visited by dancing fairies.

You can also look for a stone with a naturally hole coursed by running water, just look down the hole and you will see fairies.

Fairies are said to appear most frequently on high days of the Celtic calendar E.G. (May Eve) when they fight, (Midsummer Eve) when they celebrate and (November Eve) when they dance with ghosts and lament the coming of water.

History behind the Elf;

As the longest-lived species known in the World, elves hold a special place in the imagination and
the land. Though reclusive and notoriously stingy with giving out information about them, it is quite commonly known that elves have some relation to faeries and other magical arboreal creatures, though exactly what the link is remains unknown, even to most elves.

The long life of an elf makes them cautious, for they have much to lose by making a thoughtless choice, and much time to contemplate things to avoid doing just so. Elves culture is incredibly conservative and well established. The few elves that are seen extant in the World are those that the community has sent out so that their nation might not be caught unawares by events outside the boundaries of their wood.

Elves are known for a natural affinity with magic, but this may be related more to the long years they have to study their chosen art than a true talent. Similar legends about elves prowess with bow, sword, and nearly any other weapon or skill one can think of may have similar sources.
Santa's Elves
elves-150x133.gif
Santas Elves;

Even Santa as Elves in the North Pole and what they do is help him over the year to sort out all the letters from the children in the world looking for all the good girls and boys that deserve a special present, from the ones that havent been so good, but the good thing is they never leave anyone out, The Elves also look after the reindeers and make the toys for Santa to hand out on Christmas Eve.

A short story about the Elfs;

Santas Elves always have a tough time keeping up with jolly St. Nicholas on Christmas Eve, since Santas sleigh isnt big enough to carry all the toys to the girls and boys around the world, so what they have to do, is all rally around and make it as fast and easy as possible to help Santa deliver the toys before the end of the night because they wouldnt want to disappoint any of the children and that shows how wonderful they all are :) Santa is one lucky man!!

History behind the Pixie;

Pixies are tiny magical creatures born into existence, they are whimsical creatures with no real purpose, and their history is one primarily of peace and quiet. Pixies spend most of their time studying magic, although they are wont to take it particularly seriously. They have enjoyed a good life of leisure and comfort in the forests. The darkest hour for pixies came with the evolution of llaiadains, pixies that lost their wings. These were evil pixies that had committed crimes against the pixie kingdom. Their existence forced the pixies to become more vigilant in their own protection, for they now had a mortal enemy. Since then, many pixies devote their lives to protecting forests, as opposed to just living in them. The growth of civilization and its infringement on the pristine, natural land has also forced pixies into more action.

Pixies also have wings that are iridescent, often casting beautiful colours about, reflecting the light, as they hover. With wings they naturally can fly. They also have the natural ability to turn invisible, which happens to be uncontrollable since it is their natural state. Due to their small size, pixies are incredibly dexterous and can move very quickly. Most pixies do care about their looks, since they can be very beautiful and exotic looking. Some are less interested, and they are not in general, overly obsessed with their looks.

The more popular view of the pixies' origin is the same as with most fairies: pixies come from the land of Faerie. This place has numerous names, and confused descriptions. Some people claim it is an underground kingdom, some claim it is an distant island, and more recently, some claim it is a separate dimension, linked to this one. It is also said that the pixies have their own realm within the land of Faerie, called Pixy land
angels_angel_girl_prv.gif

I came across a site on the internet that allows you to look up the name of your magic fairy by just adding your own name and this is the result of my search..
This is my Magic Fairy's Name for... Anne
My fairy is called Gossamer Moonfilter
She is the moon goddess's messenger
She lives in spiderwebbed wonderlands and insect grottos
She is only seen on midsummer's eve.

Dragon Lore

Dragon Lore

Dragon Lore: Ancient Draconic History
Creation of Dragons
At the beginning of Time, the Immortals were young, exploring the Multiverse that the Old Ones had left for them, like children exploring a garden maze. They created the Dragons to be their servants and friends, to aid them in this exploration. In the First Great War between the Immortals, when the Immortals were divided into Immortals of Creation and Entropy, the Dragons were also forced to chose sides.
[Source: PC1]

Dragon Draeden War
Draedens were Dragons who had found their way into the Dimension of the Nightmare Lands. There they had been twisted into terrible and powerful beings. Now they had made their way back and had brought their Nightmarish Power with them. A Great War arose between Dragons and Draedens. Many worlds were destroyed in that war. Although they had stayed out of the war between the Immortals, Oberon's Faerie gave their support to the Dragons. The same did the Rulers of the Elemental Worlds. Eventually, though at a terrible cost, the Draeden were driven back and banished forever to Nightmare.

The Creation of the Drakes
The Dragons had not been able to win the Dragon Draeden War without the aid of the Elementals Lords and King Oberon's Fairies. The Dragons recognised this. In return for their generous aid, the rulers of Fire, Earth, Water, Air and Dream (as Faerie is often known) were given 10 dragon eggs each. From each hatched 1000 young creatures of a new Dragon race.
These became known as Drakes, and are forever since respected by dragons and remembered as the lost dragon children. The Elemental and Faerie Drakes developed differently, slowly becoming the Drake races we know today. They often live among lesser races, but always keep contact with Dragon Society.

Dragon Lore: Modern Draconic History
The Arrival on Mystara
Dragon history on Mystara begins when the Chromatic Dragons were called to Mystara by their master Hel.

Hel needed the Dragons to fight the humans of Thonia and Blackmoor. In response, the Champion of the humans, Odin, Hels sworn enemy called upon Metallic Dragons to help fight the servants of Hel. The Chromatic Dragons settled on Brun, driving away the dwarves who were living in the foot hills of the Known World and Norwold. The Metallic Dragons settled in the Brasol Mountains on Davania, allying themselves with the Enduks.
[Source: James Mishlers Epic Blackmoor Timeline]

The Great Rain of Fire
The Great Rain of Fire made an end of the conflict between Metallic and Chromatic Dragons. Although there had been no open war between the two races for centuries, the hatred between them still lingered. But with the human caused cataclysm, the Dragons themselves faced destruction. They were saved by the appearance of a Dragon who called himself the Great Dragon Ruler. He appeared from out of nowhere. The division between Metallic and Chromatic Dragons had existed since the end of the Draeden-Dragon wars in Mythic Times, but before that time there had been Dragon Rulers, including a Great Dragon Ruler, who had been leader of all Dragons. He had disappeared after the War and was presumed slain. The New Great Dragon reorganised the Dragons and taught them to stay together in order to survive. He gave them rules for how the two dragon kingdoms, Wyrmsteeth and Brasol should be governed, making both homes for Chromatic AND Metallic Dragons. Rulership should be controlled by one side at a time. The other side should respect the laws said down by the side in control, but the rulers should respect the side that had no influence.

Dragon Clerics of Hel, Odin and other Immortals was still allowed, but the Great Dragon and his Dragon Rulers were to be recognised as the Supreme Immortal Rulers of Dragonkind.

The Rogue Dragon Kingdoms
With the reorganisation of the Dragon Kingdoms, The Dragons were to have total power within the Dragon Kingdoms, but were to stay out of the lands beyond those borders, allowing the lesser races control of those lands. Although most obeyed these laws, a few did not and set up Rogue Kingdoms in the Known World and elsewhere. Over the centuries, there have been some wars between Wyrmsteeth and the Rogue Kingdoms, but mostly the Rogues have been left alone.

DRAGON HISTORY: MODERN TIMES
The Return of the Dragon Rulers
The last war between dragons happened around 500 years ago with the return of the Dragon Rulers. That war was between the Metallic and Chromatic Dragons on one side and the Gemstone Dragons on the other. They were lead by a powerful Draeden Lord, the last remaining Draeden in this part of the multiverse since the Dragon-Draeden wars in Mythic Times. The Gemstone Dragons had fallen under the control of the Draeden Lord, having been abducted from the Dragon Homeworld that the Metallic and Chromatic Dragons had left in the Age of Blackmoor. There had never been Gemstone Dragons on Mystara before. The Mystaran Dragons were saved when the Dragon Rulers returned under the leadership of Thelvyn the Diamond Dragon. Thelvyn defeated the Draeden Lord, thus freeing the Gemstone Dragons of his domination magic. Peace was again restored among Dragons. It now became clear that the Dragon Rulers again would be present in Dragon Society. The Gemstone Dragons were granted a separate Kingdom in the Tangor Mountains on Skothar, but were welcomed in the other two kingdoms also. Gemstone Dragons remain the least numerous race of Dragons as they suffered heavy losses in the War.

The Creation of the Night Dragons
Some Dragons defied the rulership of the Great One, and sought to renew their alliance with Entropy. Thus the Night Dragons were created. There had been Night Dragons in ancient times also. Back then, Night Dragon status could only be achieved by the highest ranking of Chromatic Dragons; those who had performed great services for the Entropic Lords could become transformed into Night Dragons as a reward. But the last Night Dragons were destroyed in the wars with Blackmoor. Now, any who would seek alignment with Entropy were granted this gift, and Night Dragons again appeared on Mystara.

The Age of Dracologists
Since the return of the Dragon Rulers, the Wizards of Glantri had begun studying Dragons, seeking to make use of their power. The most powerful of those wizards interested in Dragons gathered in the Secret Brotherhood of Dracology. The rising power of the Dracologists and their more and more frequent assuming of Dragon form worried the Dragons. Since Thelvyn had once lived in Glantri himself, it was decided that the Diamond Dragon should contact the Dracologists in order to persuade them to abandon this field of magic.

The Peal Dragon wanted to see the humans crushed, but was eventually persuaded by the other Rulers to give Diamond a chance to try diplomacy first. Thelvyn contacted the Grand Master of Dracology, Prince Jaggar von Drachenfels, a wizard who claimed to trace his lineage back to Blackmoor itself. After some discussion it was decided that the dispute would be settled through a duel between Prince Jaggar and Diamond. The other Dragon Rulers agreed on this. The battle would be one-on-one with Diamond not bringing his cohorts. Few believed this to be necessary. The Dragons were shocked when Jaggar at the beginning of the duel changed shape, assuming the form of a Diamond Dragon! In the duel, the wizard displayed such power that Thelvyn was forced to yield. By right, Prince Jaggar now could become the new Dragon Ruler. However, the Glantrian Prince had no intention to disrupt the Draconic Order and allowed Thelvyn to keep his position, assuming that the Brotherhood of Dracology would be left free to conduct its research. The duel weakened Thelvyn's position, and much of the prestige he had won in defeating the Draeden Lord was lost.

Still no one has dared to challenge his right to the position though. The Dragons have honoured the agreement with Jaggar, but are terrified of the power he displayed. They will probably not be so lenient with a new Grand Master, should Jaggar be replaced.

A Brief History on Fairies

Fairies are tiny, humanoid, supernatural creatures with wings. They are extremely long-lived beings known to possess magical powers such as the ability to fly and cast spells. They are also cited for their mischievous nature.

Fairies are pagan in origin and are found amoung all branches of the Celtic families. Once known as pagan gods and goddesses, the tradition to worship these little beings spread to France, Germany, and the British Isles. The Welsh peoples originally worked within a matriarchal society. They worshipped The Mother Goddess, and they called fairies The Mothers. Hence, Fairyland was always the Land of Women and fairies are often depicted as such.

The Irish still say fairies live in the pagan sidh (burial mounds and barrow graves), several hundred of which still stand in the Irish countryside today. Fairies are thought to have a connection to the deadlands as well as to heaven. They have the ability to freely weave in and out of the heavens, the earth, and the underworld. Fairies are still thought to come out of their hills (fairy hills) at Samhain or Halloween.

Fairies are also often found in wooded groves. Whether in hills or woods, they all reside in the land of Tir na nog which is the Land of Eternal Youth. Mortals cannot often see fairies because of the division of the worlds, but every now and again they get a precious glimpse of them. This often will happen at twilight when the veil of the worlds is briefly parted. Travelers must be wary, however. Entering Tir na nog can be very dangerous as few mortals have been known to escape alive.

Mischievous fairies have been known to lure travelers into Tir na nog, and few of these travelers have returned. Travelers that did return often described a dreamlike state in which they spent most of their time in a curious fog. Sometimes a traveler would come back decades later only to find his loved ones had passed away, while the traveler himself was still as young as the day he entered the grove. Will o' Wisps are illuminated fairies, pretty lights, which lead unwary travelers into this strange land, and can be avoided by refusing to follow them.

Fairy peoples are thought to have descended from the race of Elves. Elves are an ancient race of magical, slender creatures with pointed ears thought to be extinct. Unlike fairies, they lack the ability to fly, which may have made the fairies a more adaptable race. Elves were once very closely associated with the land and with nature and fairies took over many of their roles in this tradition. Fairies are now air, water, fire and tree spirits. These are also the four points that make up a pagan pentagram (air, water, fire and earth) and the fifth point is spirit, which the fairies incarnate represent.

Throughout most of the former celtic nations : Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany and Germany, the fairies are becoming things of the past. Even though fairies are commonly believed to exist today, from the eighteenth century and on they have been seen less and less. Once firmly ensconced in the minds of men, the fairies may now be in decline. That people do not often see them any more makes some argue that the fairies will eventually disappear as men stop believing in them.

As far as evidence is concerned, the famous "Fairies of Cottingley Glen" refers to a series of five photographs taken by Frances Griffiths and Elsie Wright. The two young cousins were living in Cottingley, near Bradford, England when the photographs were taken. The first two photos were taken in 1917. They were publicized in 1920 when "The Strand" published a piece by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle showing the first two photographs and describing them. The photos showed the fairies as small humans with period style haircuts, dressed in filmy gowns, and with large wings on their backs. At the time, the photos were viewed by some as evidence of fairies, most notably by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Doyle wrote a book called "The Coming of the Fairies", about the Cottingley Fairies and his belief in them.

Harold Snelling, a contemporary expert in fake photography, said, "these dancing figures are not made of paper nor any fabric; they are not painted on a photographic background — but what gets me most is that all these figures have moved during the exposure." Doyle himself also dismissed the idea that the photographs could have been faked. It is now considered that he thought the girls too young and too inexperienced to have been able to create such a hoax. There has been much debate regarding the authenticity of the photographs. Frances Griffiths, however, continued to maintain until her death that they did see fairies, and that the fifth photograph in particular, which showed fairies in a sunbath, was absolutely genuine.

Another curious bit of evidence regarding fairies lies in the heart of Dunvegan Castle, ancestral home of the MacLeods clan, on the Isle of Skye. This regards the "Fairy Flag of Dunvegan" which is known to have supernatural properties. There are several stories that are told regarding the history of this flag. In the best known version of the story, three times could its possessors wave it to 'call for help' in distress and the Fairy folk would come to aid. It is said the fairies themselves made the first call when they introduced the Flag as they wrapped the infant MacLeod in it when he was at the point of death. The infant recovered.

It has only been waved one other occasion. The second time it was waved, it rallied MacLeod's men to victory in war in Waternish in 1520. Not much is curently left of the Fairy Flag of Dunvegan. There are many small pieces cut from it about the size of postage stamps. When the MacLeod warriors went into battle again in WWII, some of them took bits of the flag for magical protection. It is said that those who had pieces of the flag with them returned from the war alive.

The Fairy Flag does still indeed reside on the Castle wall, preserved
under glass, at Dunvegan. It is silk and the color is yellow. Whether this color is the original color, or is yellow from the aging of time, it has not been determined. The Flag has yet to be waved for the last time. When that occasion arises it is doubtful if the fabric will do more than fall in dust. In the meantime, it remains for all to see, an interesting and awe-inspiring reminder of a promise given to the great chiefs of MacLeod by the mysterious wee folk hundreds of years ago.
