Ontario Health Care Report August 29, 2026
Ontario seeks to add more primary care teams to attach 600,000 people
News | Ontario | Healthcare
Source Canadian Press
Ontario will soon be putting out a call for proposals to create or expand 78 primary care teams, as it works toward a goal of attaching all Ontarians to primary care by 2029.
Health Minister Sylvia Jones announced today that 437,000 people have been connected to primary care since the government's plan launched early last year.
The next round aims to attach another 600,000 people.
Jones' commitment to ensuring everyone in Ontario has access to primary care consists of attaching two million people, but the Ontario Medical Association has said 2.5 million people do not have a family doctor.
Jones says the government is on track to reach its target.
The minister has been focusing on the expansion of interdisciplinary care, with teams that can include doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, social workers and other health professionals.
This report by The Canadian Press was first published Aug. 18, 2026.

BREAKING NEWS RECAP:
RFK Jr. and Josh Shapiro feud over measles-related deaths in Pennsylvania
The Pennsylvania Department of Health this week recorded its first two measles-associated deaths in 35 years, both in people who were unvaccinated. The agency declined to provide further details, saying it was protecting patient privacy.
What came next was a war of words.
Gov. Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, said at a news conference Tuesday that he had spoken to US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and “made very clear that his actions and the rhetoric coming from this administration are having a negative impact on communities across America, particularly right here in Pennsylvania.”
Before becoming HHS secretary under President Trump, Kennedy was a leading voice casting doubt on the safety of vaccination. In 2021, Kennedy – then head of the anti-vaccine organization Children’s Health Defense – visited Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where he made light of his own childhood case of measles and suggested that vaccines were causing autism and autoimmune diseases...

Trump’s wars are leaving invisible scars on our military
U.S. service personnel are suffering moral injury in large part because the White House is ignoring international law and basic military ethics.
VIDEO | Included:
When we do something (or fail to do something) that deviates from our beliefs, we often feel uncomfortable, a phenomenon psychology calls cognitive dissonance. This can result from voting for someone we don’t like, or eating that second doughnut despite our New Year’s resolution. The basic mismatch between what we value and our behavior causes unease.
When that distress stems from a clash between moral beliefs — convictions of right and wrong — and one’s own actions or those of others, the distress is called moral dissonance. It can lead to greater trauma — as the stakes rise, so does the level of psychological distress experienced due to misalignment between core moral beliefs and actions (or from betrayal of those beliefs).
And almost nowhere are the stakes higher than in war, given its inevitably deadly consequences...
- Today, U.S. service members are showing increasing signs of suffering moral injury caused by possibly illegal and unnecessary wars.:
These young men were conscripted by their radical government to serve, and surely weren’t all that different from the American submariners who killed them. Our sailors know that, and their humanity can’t help but be affected.

In Ohio, Canada-U.S. trade war sparks anger and uncertainty
Youngstown sits in congressional district that exports more than $820 million US in goods to Canada each year
The rat-a-tat-tat of a nail gun and high-pitched whine of a buzz saw echo through the two-storey home as Joe Koch’s carpentry crew completes the final touches.
Koch, the vice-president of operations for his decades-old family business, had hoped there would be three or four other new builds going up in this Ohio subdivision about now, but the U.S. trade war with Canada and many other countries has scuttled that plan.
"People are just going to not build that house this year. They're going to wait 'til interest rates lower. They're going to wait 'til the tariffs subside or the political landscape changes," Koch said...
Koch feels caught in the middle of a trade storm but he’s determined to tough it out.
