Witkoff and Kushner arrive in Moscow with plan to end war ahead of visit to Kyiv
US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived in Moscow on Saturday, where they are expected to explore prospects for ending the war, now in its fifth year.
Kirill Dmitriev, special representative of Russian President Vladimir Putin, was at Vnukovo airport to meet them, and Putin will meet the US delegation later Saturday, according to Russian state media.
After visiting the Russian capital, Witkoff and Kushner are due to travel to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, for the first time.
As they arrived, the Kremlin announced that Putin had instructed that no strikes be carried out on Kyiv for the next three days, starting at midnight on Saturday night...
“Our goal is to have a visit and negotiations with the American side that are as constructive and substantive as possible. We need to look for realistic options on how to bring this war to an end,” Zelensky said on Friday. ...

Russia secretly assists Iran with supersonic cruise missiles
Where is he getting the missiles from? I bet it's from the same sources that supply Putin with the armament to destroy Ukraine. He should be running out by now, but Putin seems to be somehow able to replace his ammunition faster than he can replace his soldiers. I believe that's why they are all going for developing more drones to do the dirty work of killing people from a distance rather than up close and suffer casualties. It's not hard to find a few nations that would like to see Trumpo, the Typo, taken down. If anything, they will steer a wide path around the whole mess and hope they can keep what nations are left in a democratic system. If anyone sheds any tears, they will be crocodile tears to be sure.

BREAKING NEWS RECAP:
Three Iranian tankers struck in retaliation for missile attacks, US military says
The United States military said Saturday its forces struck three Iranian crude oil carriers after the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles toward two US Navy warships.
The fresh exchanges threaten to heighten a shipping war in and beyond the Persian Gulf, as Iran seeks to prevent shipping transiting the Strait of Hormuz without its consent and the US steps up targeting of Iranian shipping. The two sides traded strikes earlier this week for the first time in over a month and the new attacks risk another retaliatory cycle.
“A U.S. aircraft carrier and guided-missile destroyer successfully evaded multiple unprovoked Iranian attacks,” the statement from US Central Command said on Saturday...

Trump’s war on mail ballots is eroding democracy before our eyes
If he succeeds, he will have usurped a power the Constitution clearly gives to the states.
Just weeks before the election, the Trump administration is preparing an end run around the rules for how tens of millions of Americans cast their ballots.
t is no secret that President Donald Trump wants to tightly restrict voting by mail. But he has failed to persuade the public, which continues to support it by wide margins; state officials, who have declined to abandon a popular voting method; and Congress, which refused to pass the legislation he backed.
So he’s turning instead to a secretive and rushed effort to use the U.S. Postal Service to disrupt mail voting on the eve of the midterms...
The stakes are more than the future of mail voting. Our very democracy is at risk.

How public institutions — like schools and the STM — are handling Quebec's new secularism law
Prayer rooms closed, new employee guidelines at places like schools and public transit agencies
From university halls to garages in Montreal's Metro network, public institutions across Quebec are quietly locking prayer rooms and rewriting employee guidelines as the province’s expanded secularism law takes full effect. Law 9 significantly broadens the reach of Bill 21 and extends restrictions.
The religious symbols ban passed into law in 2019 now applies to daycare staff and prayer spaces are now forbidden in places like university campuses, or the facilities of a transit agency like Montreal's SociΓ©tΓ© de transport de MontrΓ©al.
Law 9 took effect on Sept. 1.
