May Great Spirit bless π
Here it is, Tuesday morning coming down. π I pray that you are all well, have a productive and safe day, and that the Great Spirit guides you.
I was up at 6:00 am, but the blankets felt so lovely and warm that I stayed in bed till 7:00 am. It appears we may be having another windy, cloudy day. Looks like my artificial palms survived the blast. I had them well tied down with package twine. π My astroturf is still there; I had it weighted down with plenty of extra bricks 𧱠we keep around for stuff like this.
There were many power outages in the province last night, some of which were reported as not expected to be restored until sometime this afternoon. We didn't lose power, and if we do, we are prepared. I set up the solar generator and panels in the south-facing windows and tested them; they work and are ready to use if needed. I also have a propane heater prepared to go. The kitchen ventilation system would act like a chimney even without power. And the sliding doors open just a crack and voila! Ventilation of fresh air in and toxic out. We are blessed with plenty of groceries and a solar generator to keep the fridge going. Our fresh water supply comes from six 5-gallon bottles of reverse-osmosis water. Best stuff since the spring-well, back at the homestead.*_
Now that will be about enough from me, you got the survivalist tip of the day for free, π what else do you want, Eh? Hmmm, how about some butterscotch ice cream? π¦ Unless something new and noteworthy falls on my bunion, ☄️ π¦Ά I will just breeze through the rest of the news. Otherwise, I'll HOWL FOR YOU, IF I NEED YOU! I'll shout out loud while hopping up and down on one leg.π±

Exclusive: CIA carried out drone strike on port facility on Venezuelan coast
The CIA carried out a drone strike earlier this month on a port facility on the coast of Venezuela, sources familiar with the matter told CNN, marking the first known US attack on a target inside that country.
The drone strike, the details of which have not been previously reported, targeted a remote dock on the Venezuelan coast that the US government believed was being used by the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua to store drugs and move them onto boats for shipping, the sources said. No one was present at the facility at the time it was struck, so there were no casualties, according to the sources.
Two sources said US Special Operations Forces provided intelligence support to the operation, underscoring their continued involvement in the region. But Col. Allie Weiskopf, a spokesperson for US Special Operations Command, denied that, saying, “Special Operations did not support this operation to include intel support.”...

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to introduce Zohran Mamdani at New Year’s Day inauguration
New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s inauguration will feature Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, the two most prominent leaders of the Democratic Party’s progressive movement. Mamdani, who will be publicly sworn in at a City Hall inauguration ceremony on New Year’s Day, will be introduced by fellow New Yorker Ocasio-Cortez, his transition team told CNN.
“For the many New Yorkers who have long felt betrayed by a broken status quo, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez embodies a new kind of politics that puts working people at the heart of it,” Mamdani said in a statement. “I’ve been so proud to count her as a partner across the many stages of our people-powered movement—from the primary campaign to our Forest Hills rally in October to the very first day of the transition—and I’m honored that she’ll be a part of our historic City Hall inauguration.”...

Elbows up in 2025: How a year of Canadian boycotts on U.S. products played out
Canadians hit the U.S. where it hurts: booze, travel and orange juice
It became a rallying cry, a cultural touchstone, a marketing strategy and — our favourite — often described in international media as "a hockey term" or "a Canadian phrase." We are, of course, referring to "Elbows Up," Gordie Howe's signature move to ward off opponents.
The 2025 #ElbowsUp movement may have started as a response to U.S. President Donald Trump's threats to annex Canada, but it also came to symbolize the boycott of U.S. products as Trump's tariffs launched a cross-border trade war. Over the course of the year, Canadians have deliberately tried to spend their money closer to home, boycotting everything from U.S....

CRA says it's owed $10 billion in COVID-related benefits sent to ineligible recipients
Canada Revenue Agency has recouped about $4 billion but $10 billion still outstanding
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, Edmonton-based country singer Patrick Masse, like millions of other Canadians, applied for relief benefits. All the gigs he'd lined up were abruptly cancelled.
"I had really good projected earnings for that year, right? But then everything bottomed out when the world dropped," said Masse. From April 2020 to June 2022, Masse received more than $41,000 in government benefits — only to later get a letter from the Canada Revenue Agency saying he wasn't eligible for the money, and that he had to pay it back...

Russia says its negotiating stance on Ukraine will toughen after accusing Kyiv of attack
Ukraine's foreign minister says allegation is baseless, intended to prolong conflict
The Kremlin said Tuesday its position would toughen in talks on ending the war in Ukraine after accusing Kyiv of attacking a Russian presidential residence — an allegation that Kyiv said was baseless and intended to prolong the conflict. Kyiv has said Russia's accusations are "lies" aimed at justifying more attacks on Ukraine, and its foreign minister said Tuesday that Russia had not provided any evidence "because there's none."
Russia said Monday Kyiv had attacked a presidential residence in the Novgorod region with 91 long-range attack drones. It said it would retaliate and review its negotiating stance, but would not quit talks on a possible peace deal...
