NEWS AGGREGATOR & COMMENTARY

May Great Spirit bless πŸ™

Not a bad morning, bright out there, but no sun, and most of the snow we had the other day is mostly all melted away. There is a band of dark grey clouds that appears to be stationary to the southeast of us right now, blocking the morning sun. For now, it's just threatening to move in on us. I pray we remain to the north of that stuff, which at the moment is sitting just south of the Niagara Peninsula in the Buffalo area. Here it is a balmy 23 F 😁 and ⛅️ for the Niagara Escarpment area.

Looks like our microclimate is going to duck most of this big dumping to the southeast and go over the top of us to the northeast, something like the motion of the red spot on Jupiter. And we also have the Magnetic Hill in Moncton, New Brunswick, to palm trees in Vancouver and Vancouver Island, and plans for another Las Vegas in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

Yeah, I had one of those too, but it went topsy-turvy. The cotter pin fell out of the watchamacallit that connects with the thingamabob, which connects the fachizeno with the pahachehini, which operates the combustion tubes. Theydon't work because there's a bird's nest in one of the retrorockets. Now the gell packs refuse to kick into overdrive.

"OH ME, OH MY! OH LORDIE, HOW ARE WE GOING TO GET HOME?"

It's a long, long way from the Delta Quadrant back to the Alpha Quadrant.

Captain Blind shouts excitedly into the intercom!

Nebuchadnezzar, Bible

2 Kings, 2 Chronicles, Jeremiah, and Daniel

Nebuchadnezzar II was the powerful king of Babylon (605-562 BCE), famous for conquering Jerusalem, destroying the First Temple, and initiating the Babylonian Exile of the Jewish people, acting as God's instrument for judgment. He's a key figure in the Book of Daniel, where he struggles with pride, experiences a dream interpreted by Daniel, suffers a period of madness where he lives like an animal, and ultimately humbles himself before the God of Israel, acknowledging His power.*_

BREAKING NEWS:

No, Trump can’t cancel the midterms. He’s doing this instead

Worried about losing unified Republican power in Washington and mystified at his lack of support among the public, President Donald Trump keeps talking about not holding the November midterm elections, when Republicans could lose control of the House, Senate or both.

Trump doesn’t understand why his approval rating is underwater (and it is, on every issue, in a CNN Poll conducted by SSRS and released Friday). “I wish you could explain to me what the hell’s going on with the mind of the public,” he told House Republicans in a speech earlier this month...

  • Sometimes they’re jokes, sometimes not:
  • It makes sense that Trump would dread the November midterms:
  • Presidents do not have the power to delay or cancel elections:
  • The president’s distrust of US elections is legendary:
  • People are talking about doomsday election scenarios:
  • And five more of Trump's requests and desires:

A stunned Europe finally wakes up to Trump’s Greenland threat

It’s not often that Europe speaks with one voice – or responds with such urgency. But US President Donald Trump’s announcement Saturday of sanctions against several European countries that reject any US claim to Greenland, a Danish territory, was one of those moments.

An emergency meeting of EU ambassadors will take place in Brussels on Sunday in response to Trump’s threat, which he made after an estimate quarter of the population of Greenland’s capital Nuuk joined protests against any potential annexation. Across the continent, among allies that usually tread carefully in responding to utterances from the White House, the response was immediate and emphatic, and recognized an existential threat to the transatlantic alliance.

French President Emmanuel Macron, who has tried to cultivate a good personal relationship with Trump, described the threat of tariffs as “unacceptable

Where is Greenland, and why does it matter to Trump?...

1,500 soldiers on standby for possible Minnesota deployment, source says, as state mobilizes National Guard

The Pentagon has ordered about 1,500 active-duty soldiers to prepare for possible deployment to Minnesota, according to a Trump administration source, as state officials have also mobilized the National Guard. Having troops on standby does not mean a deployment is imminent or guaranteed, the Trump administration source said. ABC News first reported the preparations for a possible deployment.

Two battalions from the Alaska-based 11th Airborne Division are on prepare-to-deploy orders in Minnesota, according to a US defense official. It is unclear what tasks they would take on, though the official said it could include crowd control or support for law enforcement, similar to the role active-duty forces played in Los Angeles last summer.

Military officials tell CNN they have options prepared for President Donald Trump...

CANADIAN NEWS:

Nuclear fusion seems hot right now — but how close is fusion power?

Investments and fusion startups have ramped up, but challenges remain

Nuclear fusion milestones from Canada's General Fusion and China's EAST reactor have caused a buzz over this potentially limitless, clean energy source becoming a reality amid rising power demand from AI and electrification. Meanwhile, new fusion startups have been popping up around the world and have drawn billions in private investment. Here's a closer look at nuclear fusion and where its development is in Canada and the world.

What is Nuclear Fusion?

Nuclear fusion has been researched for decades as a way of producing clean, safe, limitless energy from an abundant source. Hydrogen, the fuel for that reaction, is widely available in water on Earth. And unlike the reactions in traditional nuclear reactors, which split atoms of radioactive elements such as uranium, fusion reactions don't generate radioactive waste. But commercial nuclear fusion reactors are not yet available.

  • Why is nuclear fusion in the news lately?:
  • Why is there global interest in fusion lately?:
  • That sounds optimistic. How close are we, actually?:

U.S. and NATO have a long history of not being serious about Greenland. That's about to change

Once seen as a risk of provoking Putin, the alliance now has the Arctic in focus

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte's don't-poke-the-bear approach to dealing with U.S. President Donald Trump was on full display Monday as he threaded his way around questions about the possible introduction of European troops in Greenland.

There were reports over the weekend that a group of countries — led by the U.K. and Germany — are discussing a military presence on the Arctic island as a hedge against American annexation. Trump's approach of doing something about Greenland "whether they like it or not" and threats of using military force against the semi-autonomous Danish territory — whether it breaks NATO or not — have turned the spotlight on issues that both the alliance and United States have long overlooked...

Some Greenlanders express outrage over Trump's threats. But not all are concerned
