May Great Spirit bless 🙏
Well, it is a nice, bright, sunny morning, so far, I just wish the air was a tad warmer, at least warm enough so I don't have to wear that dumb jacket anymore to go out in my Green Space. I seem to have dodged the bullet on the morning sickness this morning. I wasn't sure, but it felt nice waking up this morning and feeling nothing. I was so comfortable I drifted off for a while longer, later than usual. That's all the personal news I have from the Newsroom for today. Sometimes, I like a slow news day.
TODAY'S DISCUSSION:
Corporate Theft
BREAKING NEWS:
Canadian steel companies pay US$19 million to settle allegations they lied about their steel shipments
*U.S. steel companies have long complained that Canada has acted as a backdoor for cheaper, unfairly subsidized steel*
Two Canadian steel companies and one of their part owners agreed to pay US$19 million as part of a settlement with the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) that they illegally circumvented duties on steel from China, Indonesia, Italy, Turkey, and Vietnam.

Brampton, Ont.-based Royal Canadian Steel Inc., Farjess Inc., and Feroz Jessani, president and part-owner of the two companies, allegedly misrepresented the steel as being from Canada or the U.S., according to the DOJ.
Between May 2019 and January 2025, Royal Canadian Steel, Farjess, and Jessani avoided duties by "knowingly misrepresenting … the country of origin of certain flat-rolled steel," the DOJ said. ...

‘We were lucky’: Stephen Colbert’s ‘Late Show’ bids farewell in final broadcast on CBS

Stephen Colbert put on an emotional and existential final episode of “The Late Show” Thursday night, thanking his staff, studio audience, and viewers for eleven years of laughs. Colbert walked on stage to deafening cheers at the Ed Sullivan Theater, where longtime friends and VIPs filled the rows of seats.
“If you’re just tuning into ‘The Late Show,’ you missed a lot,” he quipped, alluding to CBS parent company Paramount’s controversial and politically charged decision to cancel the show. Paramount cited financial pressures, but many Colbert fans blamed political pressures, namely President Donald Trump’s contempt for Colbert’s frequent criticism of him. Paramount was urgently seeking the Trump administration’s approval of a media merger at the time Colbert was given marching orders last summer.

Republicans revolt over Trump’s $1.8 billion ‘anti-weaponization’ fund
The Trump administration’s push for a $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund derailed Senate Republicans’ plans to pass the president’s priority immigration enforcement package Thursday. Senators left Washington for their Memorial Day recess with Republicans saying they were blindsided by the Justice Department’s announcement of the fund and at odds over how to rein it in.
The issue had become so toxic for the Senate GOP that there were doubts they could muster 50 votes needed to pass the broader bill that would provide tens of billions of dollars to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and border patrol. President Donald Trump had demanded the package land on his desk by June 1, but GOP lawmakers will now almost certainly miss that deadline...
It was just the latest example of the party’s revolt against Trump, whose separate request for $1 billion in US Secret Service funding and East Wing ballroom security also seemed likely to be stripped from the package in part because of GOP opposition.

The DNC achieved the worst of all worlds with its 2024 autopsy
DNC Chair Ken Martin’s incompetence is matched only by his fear of accountability.
VIDEO | Included:
In a surprising turn of events, Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin on Thursday released an unfinished, error-laden draft of the 2024 election autopsy report he had commissioned last year but then refused to release in December on the grounds that it would be a “distraction.”
Martin wrote a peculiar note announcing the unexpected release of the 192-page report, which read, in part:
I am not proud of this product; it does not meet my standards, and it won’t meet your standards. I don’t endorse what’s in this report, or what’s left out of it. I could not in good faith put the DNC’s stamp of approval on it. But transparency is paramount. So, today I am releasing the report as I received it – in its entirety, unedited and unabridged – with annotations for claims that couldn’t be verified
The report is also striking for what it doesn’t include.
The DNC report itself is at once both boring and a mess. And the drama surrounding its release distills how utterly disastrous Martin’s handling of the autopsy has been from start to finish.

Foreign affairs minister condemns 'appalling abuse' of Canadian flotilla activists detained in Israel
Activists say they were beaten and subject to mistreatment, which Israel denies
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand is calling for Israeli officials responsible for "appalling abuse" of Canadian activists to be held accountable, after its forces intercepted a Gaza-bound flotilla earlier this week and detained hundreds of participants in the aid effort.
"I have just received information from my officials which details the appalling abuse of Canadians who were detained in Israel," the minister said in a post on X on Friday. "Canada unequivocally condemns the grave mistreatment of Canadians in Israel."
According to Global Sumud Canada, 12 Canadian citizens were among the participants on the latest flotilla effort aiming to break Israel's blockade of Gaza by delivering humanitarian assistance. Anand said they arrived in Turkey after being deported from Israel on Thursday...
