HOSPITALS AND STAFF SHOULD BE THE FIRST PRIORITY FOR ANY GOVERNMENT IF THEY EXPECT TO HAVE A HEALTHY WORKFORCE. Go ahead, numbskull nincompoop Nazi cockroach dunces! Get rid of the hospitals and staff and see the shortage of workers build while everyone is home in bed, ill, dying, and even dead within a couple of years. What will the industry and economy be like in both Canada and the U.S. if both fail and allow themselves to be sucked into the cesspool of greed?

Patient care at risk as more layoffs announced for Hamilton hospitals

Union representatives and patients affected by the latest round of layoffs in Hamilton hospitals are voicing their concerns following the announcement of major job cuts.

As CHCH News first reported last week, Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) plans to cut 413 positions, including 143 nursing jobs.

The network includes Hamilton General Hospital, McMaster Children's Hospital and Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton, as well as West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby, Ont.

Let's review the reason Hamilton Health Services (HHS) gave for cutting 413 positions, 143 of which are nurses.

HHS stated that it has an estimated funding shortfall of $150,000,000 for its 2026/27 budget year.

157 of the positions to be cut are already vacant; HHS did not specify which ones. 84 health care aides are among those positions.

HHS has a financial crisis. How is executive compensation being cut to help? Here's what the brass hats are paid at HHS. None are actual caregivers:

At Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS), the President and CEO, Tracey MacArthur, was paid $773,658. Executive Compensation Structure Ontario's public sector disclosure rules outline specific salary ranges and performance pay limits for HHS executives: President & CEO: $560,700 – $758,700 salary range, up to 20% variable pay, and a $960 monthly car allowance. Executive Vice President: $332,000 – $449,200 salary range, up to 15% variable pay, and a $960 monthly car allowance. Vice President (Tier 1): $259,300 – $350,800 salary range, up to 15% variable pay, and a $960 monthly car allowance.Vice President (Tier 2): $223,600 – $302,600 salary range, up to 15% variable pay, and a $960 monthly car allowance.

Maybe I'm wrong, but this is what HHS is paying its president and CEO to see forecasts of financial disaster and preside over their occurrence. I have no doubt Ms. MacArthur saw this "iceberg" ahead, but she is not on the record as having taken action to avoid hitting it 🚢🧊

You can bet your (‿ˠ‿)s the HHS executive will continue at full salary with bonuses and perks for presiding over this avoidable catastrophe🚀💥💨

Call your Member of Provincial Parliament and the Premier's office to tell them to help HHS get out of this mess and put HHS on solid financial footing for the future; also, investigate the executive salaries paid for a calamity on their watch.

• Request for hearing: CNN, MS NOW and Politico filed an emergency request for a hearing this morning after some staff were denied access to the White House despite a judge’s order that the administration temporarily restore their press badges.

• Government must respond: Judge Timothy Kelly has given the administration until 12:30 p.m. to respond to the media organizations’ filing. Kelly had ordered the Trump administration overnight to temporarily reinstate the three outlets’ access to the White House after they were banned from the premises by President Donald Trump.

• Access denied: CNN reporter Betsy Klein and a photojournalist were denied access to the White House grounds this morning despite multiple attempts. One CNN producer was able to enter the White House. Some staff from MS NOW and Politico were still denied access.

Sobeys' parent Empire agrees to end property controls after battle with Competition Bureau

Deal means Empire Co. Ltd. will no longer be permitted to restrict competition through land titles

Canada's Competition Bureau has reached an agreement with Sobey's parent company to have the grocery giant strictly limit or stop using property controls after the agency found the practice to be anti-competitive.

Property controls are clauses written into the land title that can prevent rival grocery stores from opening new stores nearby (exclusivity clauses), or can ban food products from being sold at nearby pet stores, dollar stores, gyms or other retailers and restrict what future leaseholders can sell on the land (restrictive covenants).

Empire Company Limited — which owns Sobeys, Farm Boy, Safeway, Freshco, IGA and others — has been under pressure from the consumer watchdog for months to get rid of their property controls after it found the practice to be anti-competitive.
