TODAY'S DISCUSSION:

KILLER FUEL PRICES

Question to "AI": These are results for Fuel Crisis, Red Flag: What is the federal government, Carney, going to do about the high prices of fuel and transportation falling to a critical situation! What happens when transportation and other industries begin shutting down because they can't afford the fuel?? October 25, 2026

🔹AI Overview

To address the severe economic strain caused by high fuel prices, Prime Minister Mark Carney's federal government has introduced Bill C-38 (the Canadian Fuel Affordability Act), which extends the complete temporary suspension of the federal fuel excise tax until January 31, 2027. The policy will transition to a 50% reduced tax rate from February 1 through March 31, 2027, before returning to full rates on April 1, 2027. This continuous intervention follows the government's earlier cancellation of the consumer carbon tax, aiming to provide billions in relief amid an energy market crisis triggered by geopolitical conflicts like the war with Iran.

How reliant is Ukraine on US support – and could Kyiv carry on without it?

It has been a bewildering period in US-Ukraine relations, after US President Donald Trump slammed his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky for failing to negotiate an end to the war and Kyiv accused Washington of withholding key military support.

Trump then sent his envoy to Norway and Russia to try to advance the peace process – but Washington walked away with only a plan to resume trilateral talks.

Meanwhile, deadly Russian attacks continue, as Ukraine raises concerns about cracks in support from the US. The latest tensions are far from the first bout between Kyiv and Trump, who began his second term by halting aid for Ukraine’s war effort.

Hillary Clinton thinks we should have 13 Supreme Court justices. Here’s why that matters.

A once-fringe position in the Democratic Party has become mainstream – and the court only has itself to blame.

Hillary Clinton may no longer be the most influential voice in the Democratic Party, but she remains a member in good standing of the party establishment. So when she expresses support for expanding the number of justices on the Supreme Court, it tells us that what was once a radical idea has gone mainstream.

“We should seriously look at expanding the court while the Democrats are in power,” Clinton said on a recent podcast. “You know, it used to be that you’d have one justice for each circuit. We now have 13 circuits, we should have 13 justices.”

Adding four justices to the court is just one of the potential reforms that have been suggested as a way of curbing the court’s abuses. Others include 18-year term limits for justices, ethics rules with actual teeth. (no more billionaire-funded junkets for you, Justice Thomas....

5 reasons why Lorne Doerkson is the next premier of British Columbia

Eby's snap election gamble backfired, while the B.C. Conservative leader projected normalcy

Even by the standards of British Columbia politics, this was an election for the history books. Five weeks ago, Lorne Doerkson was a little-known MLA from the Interior, vacationing in Africa while his Conservative Party was self-immolating. Today, he's set to become the 38th premier of British Columbia, leading the second-largest caucus the province has ever seen, while the NDP sits with its worst election night in 25 years.

Plenty of analysis will follow in the days and weeks — and frankly years — to come about the 2026 B.C. provincial election. But here are five reasons why the election ended the way it did, based on conversations with campaign leaders with both major parties and nine years covering the outgoing NDP government...
