NEWS AGGREGATOR & COMMENTS

May Great Spirit bless πŸ™

Good morning, everyone. Well, I can share two good things this morning: First, the sun is shining, and everything is the healthy golden green of early summer. New life all around the Tree House, and the warmth of the morning sun upon my cheek make this morning splendid!

Second, when I sat in the Green Space with my coffee steaming on the patio table, the only sound was a few early-morning birds singing somewhere among the trees across the drive. Serenity in the city.

My Prayer:

All seems so peaceful and in harmony from where I sit, but I am quite aware of how fortunate I am and grateful to be in this safe little bubble, a bubble that could burst, like pop goes the weasel! I am aware the bubble could come crashing in on me at any time. Crushed by the exterior pressure of the outside forces.

So, thank you, GREAT SPIRIT, for providing for me, for keeping me safe, for guiding me, and for the peacefulness of this moment on an island of tranquility 🏝️ in a disturbed ocean of constant tempestuous agitation 🌊⚡️🌊 A tempestuousness filled with darkness, doom, and gloom brought about by the spread of hatred and rage. The obvious answer to this toe smasher is to stop dropping that same brick on it! At least use another brick, "here, try this one, you might miss with this one." 🧱

BEGIN ENDING THIS DARK TIME by caring for another less fortunate than you. AMEN!

TODAY'S DISCUSSION:

THE GREAT AMERICAN AND IRAN CAPER, TO DEAL OR NOT TO DEAL PEACE?

Iran threatens to retaliate after US strikes on launch sites and boats

Here's The Latest:

Iran warns US after strikes: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says it has a “legitimate” right to respond to any “violation” of the ceasefire after the US military carried out what it called “self-defense strikes” targeting Iranian missile launch sites and boats around the Strait of Hormuz. It is unclear how the attacks will affect the ceasefire.

War negotiations: The strikes came hours after Iranian negotiators met with Qatari mediators in Doha for talks in coordination with the US. The US and Iran are working toward a “memorandum of understanding,” but disputes over language concerning Iran’s nuclear program and sanctions have held up a deal.

Israel hardens stance: In Lebanon, Israel is preparing to expand its attacks against Hezbollah, including in Beirut, an Israeli source said. A US official signaled Washington’s support for Israel’s approach...

BREAKING NEWS:

Trump’s advanced age and threats to his life serve as reminders of his own mortality

When President Donald Trump’s doctors release a summary of the physical exam he is scheduled to undergo Tuesday, the document is almost certain to conclude he remains in excellent health, if his previous assessments offer any indication.

But that is likely to do little to quiet questions about Trump’s health. And even the president himself has begun making tacit acknowledgement of his own mortality — albeit often in the context of security — as he reflects periodically on his limited time left on Earth and wonders aloud whether he would make it into heaven. “I don’t know how long I’ll be around,” he mused during an event in the East Room earlier this year. “I have a lot of people gunning for me.”...

A stray comment as he welcomed King Charles III to the White House last month offered a revealing window. Referencing his own parents’ 63-year-long marriage, he turned to his own wife, who he wed 21 years ago...

Targets of Trump’s retribution slam ‘slush fund,’ saying they’re the real victims of weaponized DOJ

Former US Capitol riot prosecutors, fired federal officials and journalists who say they were past targets of President Donald Trump’s retribution tell CNN they may seek compensation from the Justice Department’s $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund.

Some Trump critics have already sent letters to the DOJ outlining their claims, hoping to draw attention to how the president has harnessed government powers in an effort to punish his political opponents. Others are still debating whether filing a request could legitimize a fund they see as brazenly corrupt.

The six Democratic lawmakers who faced legal scrutiny after publicly urging servicemembers to disobey illegal orders have also discussed whether to apply, according to a source familiar with the matter. If they do end up filing a claim, it would create a major test case of whether the fund is truly party-blind as DOJ has suggested...

Majority of Albertans would vote to stay in Canada, find Smith's handling poor: poll

About half of Albertans said they found the official referendum question confusing

As an October referendum on the future of Alberta separation looms, new polling finds three in five Albertans say they would vote to stay in Canada, while more than half of Albertans feel Premier Danielle Smith has handled the issue “poorly."

On Thursday, Smith announced she is planning to put a question on the fall referendum ballot that will ask Albertans if they want the province to remain in Canada or if they want a future binding referendum on separation. According to a poll from the Angus Reid Institute released Monday, 60 per cent of respondents would vote no to the official referendum question, compared to 35 per cent who would vote yes.

But when asked a simpler hypothetical question about whether to leave Canada or stay, support for separation decreased and federalist sentiment grew, with 30 per cent choosing to leave and 67 per cent opting to stay...

Ottawa says work underway to shed light on secretive expense program for former governors general

Prime minister promised to look into program that cost over $500K last year

The federal government says it's looking for ways to make an expense program for former governors general more transparent after almost 50 years of secrecy. The program allows the five active former governors general to each bill the government up to $206,040 per year, on top of their pensions.

The total bill in the fiscal year ending in 2025 was $554,000. The Governor General's office, Rideau Hall, won't tell the public how the money was spent, nor is it required to, which has long been the subject of criticism...

Trump finally pushed Republicans too far. But this ‘revolt’ is less principled than it appears.

Trump’s controversial IRS settlement sparked chaos in the Capitol. He’s probably loving it.

Lawmakers left Washington for the holiday weekend on Friday, fleeing the chaos that once again threatened to engulf Capitol Hill. As the architect of much of that chaos, the president’s motivations seem relatively clear. But what about the Republican lawmakers who, for once, appeared ready to stand up to him?

It was just last month, during the talks to end the Department of Homeland Security shutdown, that President Donald Trump demanded congressional Republicans agree to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol through the special budget reconciliation process “no later” than June 1.

And indeed, the $72 billion funding bill appeared on the verge of being passed by the Senate, until Trump swooped in at the last minute and derailed it with the creation of his $1.776 “anti-weaponization” fund.

  • Senate Republicans typically offer more muted criticism, but this fund’s legal and ethical problems — or at least, the perception of those problems — was too much for some lawmakers to stomach.:
