💝~I wish You Enough~💝

Recently overheard was a father and daughter in their last moments together at the airport. They had announced the departure.

Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the father said, 'I love you, and I wish you enough.'

The daughter replied, 'Dad, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Dad.'

They kissed and the daughter left. The Father walked over to the window where I was seated. Standing there I could see he wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude on his privacy, but he welcomed me in by asking, 'Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever?'

'Yes, I have,' I replied. 'Forgive me for asking, but why is this a forever good-bye?'..

'I am old, and she lives so far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is - the next trip back will be for my funeral,' he said.

'When you were saying good-bye, I heard you say, 'I wish you enough..' May I ask what that means?'

He began to smile. 'That's a wish that has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to everyone...'

He paused a moment and looked up as if trying to remember it in detail, and he smiled even more. 'When we said, 'I wish you enough,' we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them.' Then turning toward me, he shared the following as if he were reciting it from memory.

I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear.

I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more.

I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting.

I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger.

I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.

I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.

I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.

He then began to cry and walked away.

They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them; but then an entire life to forget them.

Only if you wish, send this to the people you will never forget. If you don't send it to anyone it may mean that you are in such a hurry that you have forgotten your friends.

I wish you enough:

Until I fell and hit the bottom and found out the world didn't owe me anything. I had to learn to trust someone, then learn to care for myself. Once I understood what caring was about, I discovered that many people like me also needed the same kind of care.

Since then, I have never asked to be provided with anything more than what I needed. To be given the necessary tools to complete the task at hand. I never thought of that saying, 'I wish you enough,' but I used it when I was working as a social worker. Since I had been there, I knew what it was like. AA, NA, Recovery programs, Social worker.

Habían anunciado su partida. De pie cerca del control de seguridad, se abrazaron y el padre dijo: "Te quiero y te deseo lo suficiente". La hija respondió: "Papá, nuestra vida juntos ha sido más que suficiente. Tu amor es todo lo que siempre he necesitado. Yo también te deseo lo suficiente, papá". Se besaron y la hija se fue. El padre se acercó a la ventana donde yo estaba sentada. Allí, pude ver que quería y necesitaba llorar. Intenté no invadir su privacidad, pero me dio la bienvenida preguntándome: "¿Alguna vez te has despedido de alguien sabiendo que sería para siempre?". —Sí, lo he hecho —respondí—. Perdona la pregunta, pero ¿por qué es una despedida para siempre? —Soy mayor y ella vive muy lejos. Tengo retos por delante y la realidad es que el próximo viaje será para mi funeral —dijo—. —Cuando te despedías, te oí decir: «Te deseo lo suficiente...». ¿Puedo preguntar qué significa eso? Empezó a sonreír. Es un deseo que se ha transmitido de generación en generación. Mis padres se lo decían a todos.... Hizo una pausa y levantó la vista como si intentara recordarlo con detalle, y sonrió aún más. Cuando decíamos: Te deseo lo suficiente», deseábamos que la otra persona tuviera una vida llena de cosas buenas que la sustentaran». Luego, volviéndose hacia mí, compartió lo siguiente como si lo recitara de memoria: Te deseo suficiente sol para que mantengas una actitud brillante, sin importar lo gris que parezca el día. Te deseo suficiente lluvia para apreciar aún más el sol. Te deseo suficiente felicidad para mantener tu espíritu vivo y eterno. Te deseo suficiente dolor para que incluso las más pequeñas alegrías de la vida parezcan mayores. Te deseo suficiente ganancia para satisfacer tus deseos. Te deseo suficiente pérdida para que aprecies todo lo que posees. Te deseo suficientes saludos para que superes la despedida final. Entonces rompió a llorar y se alejó.

Dicen que se necesita un minuto para encontrar a una persona especial, una hora para apreciarla, un día para amarla; pero luego una vida entera para olvidarla. Solo si lo deseas, envía esto a las personas que nunca olvidarás. Si no se lo envías a nadie, puede significar que tienes tanta prisa que has olvidado a tus amigos. TÓMATE TIEMPO PARA VIVIR... Tuve que aprender a confiar en alguien y luego a cuidarme. Una vez que entendí lo que significaba cuidar, descubrí que muchas personas como yo también necesitaban el mismo tipo de cuidado.

Desde entonces, nunca he pedido que me den más de lo que necesito. Que me den las herramientas necesarias para completar la tarea en cuestión. Nunca pensé en ese dicho "les deseo lo suficiente", pero lo usé cuando trabajaba como trabajadora social. Desde que estuve allí, sabía cómo era. Alcohólicos Anónimos, Narcóticos Anónimos, programas de recuperación, trabajadora social.
