I know that at least as many sunny days as I can count on my two hands, and maybe remove my sock off my right foot to count the toes of the days I may have missed.

Anyway, that's the current situation here in the Newsroom at the moment, but I am quite certain that the calm will soon enough turn into a tempest in the National News.

After I finished writing the above, a thought occurred to me: a movie I saw many years ago, titled The Mouse That Roared. An introduction is below. My mind immediately went to our own Fenwick, right here, where we call it Canada. Be proud; if you're Canadian, you may find this movie of interest.

What is the story of the mouse that roared? The younger generation may not be familiar with it. I loved it.

Who will be the next pope? Here are some possible candidates

An old saying about papal elections goes as follows: “He who enters the conclave as pope, leaves it as a cardinal.” In other words, any candidate seen as the frontrunner before the voting begins should be treated with caution, and no cardinal should go into the Sistine Chapel assuming they will get the votes.

At the 2013 conclave, one of the favorites was Cardinal Angelo Scola of Milan. The Italian bishops were so confident that he would be chosen that after the white smoke emerged from the Vatican chimney, a senior Italian church official sent a message to reporters expressing joy over Scola’s election. The problem was that Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio had already been named pope.

North Carolina communities still struggling to recover from Hurricane Helene feel the loss of laid-off CDC disaster team

Hurricane Helene tore through the Swannanoa River Valley of western North Carolina almost seven months ago, but many of the scars it left are still fresh.

Flooding and landslides toppled trees and demolished homes and businesses. Debris still sits in piles dotting the landscape, and in some areas, people who lost their homes live in tents and RVs. In the county where it’s located, 43 people were killed.

President Donald Trump traveled here in January, just four days after the start of his second term, and pledged more federal help.

Why Hegseth looks safe – for now – despite new group chat crisis

Pete Hegseth didn’t become defense secretary because he had the resume of a great statesman.

But President Donald Trump spent huge political capital getting Hegseth confirmed because the Pentagon chief mirrors Trump’s own riotous political identity and instincts. The point of his selection was to show the conventions and traits that normally define top national security officials don’t apply in the president’s tear-it-down second term.

This is why Hegseth seems safe for now despite stunning new revelations that he shared sensitive military plans in a group chat that included his wife and brother, among others, following an earlier scandal over his communicating details about strikes on Yemen in a chat with top officials.

Después de terminar de escribir lo anterior, me vino a la mente una idea: una película que vi hace muchos años, titulada *El Ratón Que Rugió*. A continuación, una introducción. Inmediatamente pensé en nuestro Fenwick, aquí mismo, donde lo llamamos Canadá. Siéntanse orgullosos; Si eres canadiense, esta película puede que te interese.

¿Cuál es la historia del ratón que rugió? Puede que los jóvenes no la conozcan. A mí me encantó.
