Land of Whispering Pines 🌲
Good morning! I pray the Great Spirit be with you 🙏
This morning was a much more pleasant outing in my green space, more like an early summer morning. The hazy sun 🌅 is out and the birds were a-singin'' but otherwise, it was as quiet as a tomb, silence as though we were living in the middle of the bush or something. I could hear the humming of the ship's engines 🚢 at port in the Welland Canal, somewhere about a mile down the road. I used to walk there in the summer and sit by the edge of the canal, watching the ships go by. I also used to walk 3 miles to Sunset Beach. And many pictures of Walker's Creek; I believe I still have those on my phone. I'll share them sometime.
*I love this place!* It's just as good as retiring in Florida, pre-Trump, that is. Well, it's kind of like living in the bush; the apartment building is recessed within a nature park. One chance in a million of finding an apartment building inside a park? Well, actually, twice. There were woods across the street from the last apartment building we lived in, in central Ontario, before we moved to B.C.
We weren't in B.C. long, with the coat summers and overcast skies most of the year, and all, "yuck!" They can keep their mountains, 🗻 too. You can't see them most of the time anyway because of the clouds. ☁️ Okanogan Valley 🏞 is a much better place than the Vancouver area. It's OK if you like barnacles on your feet and moss in your underwear. 😲 😮 That will be enough from me before I get distracted by all the Zs in the room. ZzZzZz ~ ♪♫♭ ~ ♪♫♭
It's now time for the discussion of the day. Thank you for reading the News. 📰

Boiling The Frog
- Google Search -
The "boiling frog" is a metaphorical idiom describing a situation where an individual or group fails to recognize a gradual deterioration of a situation or environment until it is too late to escape or react effectively. The classic example is a frog placed in lukewarm water that is slowly heated; the frog, not experiencing a sudden change, fails to perceive the danger and is cooked alive.
I was reading someone's post last night on one of the social networks. This person was remarking about the people demonstrating No Kings Day in the streets of most major U.S. cities. The post read something to the effect: "It is sad to see these poor, misinformed, brainwashed masses on the streets." You see, no matter what we, the people, say, we are the saboteurs; those who stand for democracy and justice are the brainwashed masses.
Yes, all to confuse, to make people doubt, and become paranoid as to who is in charge to tell us, we the people, the what, where, when, and why the master sh-t in whose underwear? Is it the truth or just a pack of parroted lies? But then, if you sell enough Kool-Aid and parrot enough lies, you get what is called the slowly boiling the frog effect.
✌️ "VIVE LA RESISTANCE!" ✌️
Or it's...

Where the G7 came from — and where it might go in the era of Trump
Summit faces tricky balance of presenting unified front amid U.S.-driven trade war and other global stressors
Historian Samuel Beroud has a pet peeve whenever anyone asks him about the origins of the annual Group of Seven (G7) summit.
As the well-worn narrative goes, the G7 (originally the G6 before Canada joined In 1976) was set up as a forum among the world's leading industrialized nations following the economic shocks of the early 1970s, including the collapse of the Bretton Woods monetary system and the oil price crisis.
The first summit was hosted by French President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing and German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt in 1975. The two leaders met with the heads of the U.K., Italy, Japan and the U.S. for a fireside chat at the Château de Rambouillet, just outside of Paris.

Indigenous people fleeing wildfires face immense mental health burdens. Experts say they shouldn't have to
Psychologists say more resources, better communications needed to provide supports to Indigenous evacuees
Jeewa Liske was four months pregnant in August 2023 when she had to flee wildfire smoke in Yellowknife and make a difficult 20-hour drive to safety.
"I was wanting to leave just 'cause it was so smoky and it was so hard to breathe," Liske, now 23, recalled of the day the city issued an evacuation order. She said she was barely able to see the sides of the road as she and three friends drove to Edmonton.

Comment, Paula Koval:
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Everyone! Thank you for visiting.
I've lived in several cities and a few metropolitan areas, but I agree with Cindy about how nice it is to live where we are.
Most of the time, it's as quiet as a school on Sunday. The climate is hospitable, but we do have our spells of lousy weather, like the cool spell we've had for months. Sunny and cool is more like where we left, the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. Our apartment building is in a residential area on the edge of a park with walking trails. The green space on our balcony is a physical and emotional respite. I believe we have "dropped anchor" here.
Taco, the currently accepted nickname for Trump, is blissfully going about boiling the American populace as though we were frogs in a pot of water, as in the metaphor. Many have taken a huge draught of his MAGA Kool-Aid and flopped in the pot, intoxicated on normalized racism, cruelty, disregarding court orders, immigrant bashing, turning the National Guard and the United States Marines loose on demonstrators when the authorities responsible for order have not asked for help, accusing anyone not on his side of treason, and a plethora of things said to make the MAGAts feel empowered.
Boiled frogs can't fight a dictator.
Then there are Americans who aren't frogs in a pot. They resist the propaganda spewing from the "Offal Office" and Faux News. They search for the truth and reject the lies, hate, and utter bullshit Taco puts out. They demonstrate against the ICE raids that arrest anyone the masked thugs of ICE think looks like an illegal alien. They demonstrate against the suspension of habeas corpus rights that everyone in America has, including those swept up by masked ICE thugs. They demonstrate against the confinement of those arrested in places that have no beds, inadequate sanitary facilities, little or no food, no medical attention, and against treating people worse than animals.
Late last night, Taco backed down from arresting everyone who "looked" like an undocumented alien. He told ICE to stay away from farm workers, hotel workers (he owns several hotels), and restaurants, of which Taco has several, too.
Anything to make a buck.
